ARCHIVED Gastro?
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We have the same doctor. He's always been pretty good, I don't know if it was him who wrote me back or someone else at the office, though, because he's always told me to be gluten free. Maybe I should make an appointment and get my son the blood test and go from there, he's still eating gluten. -
Ugh. So, I emailed my GP last week asking about my old test results and if I should get retested and get my son tested. Someone at the office wrote me back saying that because I didn't have intestinal symptoms, I didn't need to bother being gluten free. I did have eye tics, aches, anxiety and tingling in my legs sometimes that's stopped since going gluten...

ARCHIVED Slightly Frustrated...
Solandra replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
His dad needs to stop being so melodramatic. It's only food. I have Hashimoto's disease and Celiac, I don't think of myself as "sick" unless I come down with a bad virus. The rest of the time, I'm too busy working, biking, riding horses and generally living my life to think much about it! And anyone can come down with health problems. If your BF found "someone... -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Continual Gluten Consumption?
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, it's tough. I actually have another friend with biopsy proven Celiac who is non chalant about it. I just have to remind myself to keep doing it. -
ARCHIVED Celiac And Continual Gluten Consumption?
Solandra posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I tested positive on my AGA IGA test and my doctor said I should assume Celiac and go gluten free, so I have been good. My friend, on the other hand, even had a biopsy and still continues to eat gluten. She was talking about wheat germ in her oatmeal and eating toaster strudels sometimes and says that it doesn't seem to upset her. I tried to tell her that... -
ARCHIVED New And Conflicted
Solandra replied to BoosMomma's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My GP told me that a positive is a positive.. It's pretty rare to have a false positive, but false negatives are slightly more common. I would wait for the biopsy results, but I don't see anything wrong with trying gluten free for a couple of months and seeing how she does. -
ARCHIVED I Think I Have Celiac But Not Sure. Help Please?
Solandra replied to Nichole2018's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, you could start with a blood test from your doctor if your parents will take you. If they won't, you could try a gluten free diet for a few months and see if that helps some of your symptoms.- 2 replies

ARCHIVED Want To Know About Anti Gliadin Antibody Test
Solandra replied to FoggedIn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah, and considering I have Hashimoto's, which is another autoimmune disorder, a positive result on a blood test, as well as one of the genes for Celiac, I think telling me I don't have it is a little weird. -
ARCHIVED Want To Know About Anti Gliadin Antibody Test
Solandra replied to FoggedIn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think she read some random studies that made her think that way. I read on the site you posted that you can develop it at any time. She seemed to think that if you don't have it as a kid, you can't have it as an adult, but you could become gluten-sensitive. I told her it's not like I WANT to deal with this, to be accused of just doing it because it's a... -
ARCHIVED Want To Know About Anti Gliadin Antibody Test
Solandra replied to FoggedIn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm curious to know more. I was positive on Gliadin AB, IGA but not on TTG so my Endo told me not to worry about it, while my GP said not to eat gluten, and my mother in law who works in a lab thinks I don't have Celiac and that I would have been sick as a kid. It's so confusing. Then someone on here said their Immunologist told them IGA doesn't matter at... -
ARCHIVED To Biopsy Or Not?
Solandra replied to roxweb's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm overweight also and opted out of the biopsy. I had a positive blood test and eating gluten free makes me feel better, and when I eat gluten, I feel horrible. I also have Hashimoto's which is strongly correlated. My doctor wrote "gluten enteropathy" on my records just because of the blood test, so I don't see any point in getting the biopsy. My dad had... -
ARCHIVED Quick Question On Recent Blood Test
Solandra replied to Jessica2813's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for the info! You know, I've read so many things, that I can't remember where I read that autoimmune diseases can throw off the serum levels. Sorry. =/ -
ARCHIVED Quick Question On Recent Blood Test
Solandra replied to Jessica2813's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have similar test results: IgA, Serum - 357 (70-310 is normal) Gliadin Ab, IgA 22 (0-19 is normal) TTG Ab, IgA 5 (0-19) TTG Ab, IgG 4 (0-19) The high serum on mine is possibly because I have another autoimmune disease, Hashimoto's. You should get checked for other autoimmune diseases, and assume you have Celiac and get further testing if you... -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ok.. I will trust you guys one this one, it's just confusing. But, I went by Whole Foods today, which for some reason is the first time I went there since my diagnosis, and I found a giant WALL of gluten free stuff, along with fresh bread.. I got a loaf of fresh whole grain gluten free bread, along with some rosemary focaccia bread. THIS MADE MY DAY! I will... -
ARCHIVED Still Finding It Hard
Solandra replied to Ebonyjade93's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you Google "Gluten Free Vegan Recipes" there is SO much stuff... There's a lot of hype about soy, but I think a lot of that is from A. idiots and B. the dairy industry. I eat a little bit of tofu here and there, and I love almond milk the best. You can use flax seed or tofu in place of eggs in baking, by the way. You can make tofu scrambles that are delicious... -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have been pretty much gluten free since March I think.. Except I was eating Thai and realized it had soy sauce. I didn't notice any discomfort, though, so maybe a small amount doesn't bother me? Who knows.. I guess I could challenge and see what happens, but I also don't want to cause problems. I keep getting told different things by medical professionals... -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I asked my family doctor for a second opinion.. He said it's an inconclusive test result but that I could try eating toast or something to see how it affects me. I'm scare of getting sick, though. What should I look for it I try it? I miss bread and stuff and don't want to avoid gluten if I don't HAVE to, you know? Should I try? -
ARCHIVED Depressed Cause I Can't Eat Anything
Solandra replied to Sage122's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know how you feel! I have been so depressed lately because I'm vegetarian and then got the positive anti-body test for gluten. It's NOT always as bad as it seems, though. There is still a lot you can eat.. All the fruit, veggies, rice, Quinoa, gluten-free oats, all kinds of gluten free flours, you can learn to cook, and if you have a New Seasons or Whole... -
ARCHIVED Thyroid +Gluten Withdrawl
Solandra replied to Mama of 6's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be an ear infection. I don't think there's such a thing as "gluten withdrawl" since it's not a drug and there's no physiological addiction. That's like saying.. "Raisin withdrawl" or "Canola oil withdrawl". I'm glad you are getting it checked out, though. I just had surgery for a lump on my thyroid that they thought was cancer. Please have them check... -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She's an Endocrinologist, so I'm not expecting her to be super well versed in this.. but she had a good idea to at least test me. I will ask my regular doctor when I see him, and just continue to avoid gluten because I feel better. That's interesting that you think I have full blown Celiac.. someone else told me that years ago and I didn't think anything... -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks for replying. I also had weird sensations and didn't like anything on my neck, either. I figure I do NOT want to go through surgery again to get the other half of my thyroid removed, so if I can prevent more tumors from growing by reducing my immune response, it would be worthwhile. Good to know that you also think I am gluten intolerant and should... -
ARCHIVED Please Help! Could I Have Celiac Disease?
Solandra replied to sadsickgirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You aren't imagining things... I was told by a couple of different doctors that I was crazy and that I needed to exercise and eat less, and that the lump on my thyroid wasn't really there (removed it last month, and it was 3cm! That's like.. an egg!). Find a good doctor who will take time and listen and do the right tests. You don't even have to tell your... -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Results
Solandra posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A little background: Diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease (and tumor, removed last month and wasn't cancer, just from the Hashi's) in Feb. 2012. Endocrinologist decided to test me for Celiac/Gluten Intollerance in March. The test results came back as: IgA, Serum - 357 (70-310 is normal) Gliadin Ab, IgA 22 (0-19 is normal) TTG Ab, IgA 5 (0-19) TTG...
