ARCHIVED Test Results
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can't tell if I feel better gluten free because of gluten, or because stuff that contains gluten often causes blood sugar ups and downs. I know I feel better when I eat more Paleo in general, though (not strict on it). I have gone gluten free for months at a time and didn't notice that much of a difference. My doctor says that Levothyroxine treatment in... -
Hey guys, so even my doctor is confused by this. I did a gluten challenge because 3 years ago I came back with an elevated Gliadin AB IGA (just two points over normal) which could be caused by my Hashimoto's disease (history: I had a tumor, which was removed three years ago). Back then, my thyroid TPO antibodies were over 3500. So I just had my new test...

ARCHIVED Canker Sores
Solandra replied to Steph1's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
YES! It's so annoying. I'll get them in the back of my throat and that's the worst. I have heard of canker sores being related to Celiac. -
I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's a little over 3 years ago.. It's annoying, but not the worst thing ever. I just went in yesterday to get my levels checked and I'll probably have to up my dose. It's just that you can go for a year or two on the same dose and then suddenly it's not enough sometimes, and you just get it adjusted.

ARCHIVED My Celiac Disease Is Causing Stressful Family Conflict
Solandra replied to Coolclimates's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know if it's early stages of dementia or him just being passive aggressive! It's their house, though. Even in my house, my husband and son don't eat gluten free. I just am careful about my food and what I eat. You can't force other people to change the way they eat, especially when you don't even live with them. -
ARCHIVED Blurg - Synthroid - Need Advice.
Solandra replied to AmandaD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm on Levothyroxine and didn't realize it was gluten free. Good to know! Have your doc test your TPO antibodies.. It's likely that you have Hashimoto's. My TSH was around 4-5 and nobody would treat me until I finally found a doctor who recognized Hashi's, and my antibodies were 3500! Under 80 is normal. Don't be scared of Levo, though, reactions are extremely... -
ARCHIVED Challenge - Retesting
Solandra posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hey guys.. I just went in for another blood test. I reintroduced gluten a few months ago and just got my blood drawn today for another test since the one I did before was only "weakly positive" and that was three years ago. My original tests from 2012: IgA, Serum - 357 (70-310 is normal) Gliadin Ab, IgA 22 (0-19 is normal) TTG Ab, IgA 5 (0-19) ... -
ARCHIVED Franz Bread
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared LinkIt's here in Portland, Oregon, but I'm sure they have it other places. Maybe not as far as the East Coast. -
I just found that Franz is making gluten free products now. I went to their outlet store to see if I could find it cheaper, and they're about $5 a loaf there. A million times better than Udi's! They also have muffins that look really good and I think I'll pick some up next time.

ARCHIVED My Mom - Celiac, Or Not?
Solandra replied to jrenfen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I think she should have an endoscopy and colonoscopy. My dad dealt with this and it turns out it was colon cancer, he died 10 years ago. It probably isn't that! But I would suggest that they try and rule out other things, too. -
My TSH was .89 or somewhere around there.. I feel fine. You'll have to do a little bit of adjusting with medications before you figure out what's right for you.

To straighten it out, studies suggest that while the general population has a percentage of about 1% for Celiac, those of us with Hashimoto's (autoimmune thyroid disease), have a 2-4% chance of developing Celiac. There's a lot of stuff online that says untreated Celiac causes it, and that ALL people with thyroid disease need to avoid it, but that's not backed...

ARCHIVED Am I Gluten Intolerant Or What
Solandra replied to Conitha's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well, relax, because there are some good gluten free pastas. You can develop problems at any age. Have your doctor start with a full Celiac blood panel.. TTG IGA and IGG, Gliadin Antibodies IGG and IGA (whatever the newest tests are for that). -
ARCHIVED Fevers With Gluten Reaction
Solandra replied to cdog7's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes! I definitely do. I tried a gluten challenge last week, started Monday night and by Friday I was absolutely miserable so I stopped eating it. Gas, stomach upset, a low grade fever, fatigue, body aches.. I thought I was getting the flu, but by Saturday I was pretty much fine and it hasn't happened since I stopped eating it. You're not alone. -
ARCHIVED Help With Test Interpretation Please?
Solandra replied to Lisa4kids's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
They didn't test you for Celiac, specifically, so you should go get those tests done that nvsmom recommended. I'm not sure why they didn't! -
ARCHIVED Seeing Every Doc In Town! Fractures,osteopenia...need Answers!
Solandra replied to southgin13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know listening to doctors and taking pills can seem scary, but I'd follow your doctor's advice, at least for the pills for your bones that they want you to take. I'd see what the gastro has to say, too, and get whatever other tests you can to at least cover your bases and hopefully get some answers. I'm sorry you're dealing with all of this! -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten Between Blood Test And Endoscopy?
Solandra replied to nikkijayne28's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If it makes you sick, stop eating it. You might get test results that confirm it, you might not. I got a weak positive result, went off gluten, tried eating it again recently to get more testing, and was too sick after about four days that I couldn't continue. It's up to you, if you want to get the endoscopy you should continue to eat it, if it's enough that... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten To Retest.. Not Feeling So Hot.
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It was the AGA IGA, I think that one is above 90%. But according to some other studies I've found, not a lot of people who test positive on that one have intestinal damage. The test I had was 2 1/2 years ago so I wanted to get a more recent one. -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten To Retest.. Not Feeling So Hot.
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I thought you had to go longer than two weeks for a biopsy? And nah, I don't feel like continuing to eat it. It just makes me feel too gross. I'll go back to just eating gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten To Retest.. Not Feeling So Hot.
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah.. screw it. I can't make it three months. SO sick this afternoon. My stomach is like so bloated my pants don't want to fit. Totally not worth it. -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten To Retest.. Not Feeling So Hot.
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Maybe if I can make it! I found gluten free stuffing at Trader Joe's, so there's that. -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten To Retest.. Not Feeling So Hot.
Solandra replied to Solandra's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Ugh, great. Yeah I'm feeling bloated, nauseated and constipated today (TMI haha). Which wasn't happening when I was gluten free. I'll see if I can make it three months. Food is delicious but not worth feeling gross over.. and it's so weird, because the first day or two I didn't notice anything and then it was like all at once I felt gross. -
ARCHIVED Next Steps For Husband?
Solandra replied to peppyking's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'd have to agree with more testing! Since I'm not really sure of mine, I'm eating gluten again and getting retested, too. I think it would be so much easier to be sure, otherwise, he could be like me and be like, "WELL I really want that ____ and since I'm not sure, I might as well..." It's not the easiest thing to do 100% without having a good reason. -
ARCHIVED Test Result Question
Solandra replied to Stacy0w's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah that's pretty high. That was the only one that was high for me, but it was only at 22 and 19 was the cut off, so I'm eating gluten again because I decided to get retested. Not feeling so hot, either! I'd see what your doctor has to say, 100 is definitely high and something is up, I would get a biopsy, or at the very least, go off gluten for several months... -
ARCHIVED Eating Gluten To Retest.. Not Feeling So Hot.
Solandra posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been eating some gluten for the past couple of days. Yesterday and today I've noticed my eyes feel weird, like I'm having a hard time focusing, definitely gassier than usual and all around feeling a little.. off. I'm not sure if it's from that or something else, but I never had really noticeable symptoms before I went gluten free a few months ago, and...
