  1. Desitin (what parents put on babies bums) might also be good. I hope she feels better soon!
  2. And why is that is usually the first thing people want to know about?
  3. I used to pass out a lot, in the year before I was diagnosed and the year after as I was healing. I drank a LOT of Gatorade and tried to eat lots of small meals. I still get really dizzy and have to lay down when I get severely glutened. Be especially careful if she is throwing up and not able to keep any liquids down. That is when I usually pass out...

  5. Seriously????!!!!! That is such a good idea!!!!
  6. I was so excited to eat this millet and flax bread that my friend (not celiac) me about. I made myself a sandwhich and ate it at school for lunch and about 2 hours later my tummy started cramping, I threw up several times, and then I had my usual D the next 2 days. Does anyone else actually vomit when they get gluten-poisoning? I realized later that the...
  7. I'm 23 (disclaimer) I was diagnosed in senior year of highschool and pretty much everyone knew because I had been so so sick the whole year. Then in college I was fairly open about it and all of my friends knew, though only my close ones really understood. Now I am in medical school and I hardly tell anybody and I hate people's reactions, like "oh GOD...
  8. Those were my same symptoms and I got so anemic on the stupid iron pills since I wasn't absorbing them (doctors accused me of puking them up or not taking them, stupid!) Anyways, you will eventually get anemic again if you keep eating gluten, and you will probably get tummy symptoms too eventually, not to mention all the cancers and other diseases you will...
  9. I think the point is that we (most of us I think) can never be 100% gluten free. It might be 99.999% but there is still eensy tiny little bits of gluten that we ingest accidentally. My GI is happy as long as my ABs are hovering around normal. Before I was diagnosed they were almost 100X higher, so if they're almost normal it means I'm doing something right...
  10. Preface: Only a few of my classmates know I have celiac disease and I am generally very private about it until people "need to know." You know you have celiac disease when.... After a tough exam, a classmate comes over and tries to stick a cookie in your mouth to cheer you uo and you're so tired that instead of just saying "no thankyou" like you...
  11. It sound like you have celiac disease to me. I don't know about the genotyping thing though. But about tTG, if it was "only" 24 to begin with, I don't think it's unreasonable that it would drop down to normal that fast. Mine was over 80 when I was diagnosed and still only took about 2 months for it to become normal. If your antibodies are low though,...
  12. I'm in med school and we're ALWAYS having events and meetings with food, usually pizza or chinese. We haven't learned about celiac disease yet in class and I wonder if anyone will even then figure out that that's why I never eat the food they're having. Only my close friends know I have celiac disease and somewhat "get it." Everyone else is clueless and...
  13. I bought three boxes of it yesterday. And yes, I'm 23 years old. I love being able to buy "normal" cereal every once in a while and I hate fruitty and cocoa pebbles (wayyyy to sugary for me.) YAY!
  14. The poor poor appendix. Mine's been suspected of foul play about 4 times (turned out to be kidney failure, pancreatitis, etc...*rolls eyes*) My roommate and I always joke that if I ever DO get appendicitis I won't believe it. ;-) I get pain in my lower to upper right side too when I'm constipated. Not to be disgustingly graphic, but if I press down...
  15. I"ve been gluten free for 4 years now and I still get the occassional cravings for bagels, pizza, oreos, etc. Every once in while I start crying, and I think its pent up emotions coming out becaues usually I am fine being around people eating tons of stuff I can't have. Personally, I am not a fan of Kinnikinick bagels. I LOVE Glutino bagels though....
  16. I haven't been back to mine in almost 2 years. I was actually just wondering today if I should go see him again before I start med school just to make sure my antibodies are low and everything. I had a physical with my primary doc a month ago though, and I'm not anemic (which is what happens when I get glutened a lot). Plus, I donate blood every 4 months...
  17. I'm 5'8" but I stopped growing a couple years before I was diagnosed so I don't know if celiac disease affected my growth that much. I have always been thin, but not underweight. My dad is really tall (6'6") so I think I reached my "natural" height. Bre
