  1. I'm confused. You had barley malt in your probiotic juice? You must not have barley malt on a gluten free diet, this would not make it a gluten free diet. Sorry if I've misunderstood you.
  2. I think it is more likely to be the opposite. I have diabetes as well as coeliac disease and due to my diet I find that I get glucose lows quite a bit and need to test my glucose before driving, to make sure it doesn't go too low. However, this might not be the same for everyone, but it is something to take into consideration, for exampleI personally cannot...
  3. Just a thought, but maybe the mixture was high in sugar. If you have a lot of sugar, no matter what the source of it was, it can make your blood glucose skyrocket. You said you only added a little whey protein mix, maybe by adding a bit more or just adding some yogurt to the mix, it would have slowed down how quickly your body processed the juice. If...
  4. Hi Cyclinglady, I've just watched the lecture in your link. I agree it is fascinating, the mind boggles as to where this is all leading. I take acidophilus on a regular basis, but judging by what was said in the lecture, we all need it tailoring to our specific needs and genes. I recently read a book on microbiology and this was equally interesting, it...
  5. AHi Cyclinglady, a year after my diagnosis, I had another endoscopy and there was no damage and they were quite happy all was healing. I agree though, that other biopsies need to be taken, and cannot rely on blood tests alone. My blood tests weren't positive any way, only the biopsies.
  6. It sounds like we all have different intolerances though, so not sure how this would work. I'd be interested in the opinion of others though.
  7. Thanks Cristiana, I will look for it on BBC iplayer as I've only just read your post. I try wherever possible to make meals from scratch, like you say, as that way I can control what goes into my food. It's not difficult to see why so many people have food allergies/intolerances these days.
  8. Hi Fergus, Thanks for your input. I pretty much make everything from scratch these days too, as I agree with you about processed foods. I don't eat take away foods either, as it's almost impossible trying to find one that excludes all the things I'm intolerant to as well as being gluten free and wheat free. Like you say, most gluten free processed...
  9. Hi Jonathan, I know what you mean when you say you want your old life back. I feel that way too. I almost forgot, I can't tolerate quinoa as well. I found some interesting facts on the internet regarding quinoa, it said that the protein in it can cause a similar immune response as gluten in some coeliacs. It's really odd that it isn't the same...
  10. Thanks for the info Icelandgirl. It sounds like there are more people than I originally thought, with the same problems and frustrations that I'm going through. It's such a pain as there are so many foods that need eliminating, which begs the question, what on earth is there left to eat? It's hard to eliminate these foods and replace them with others and...
  11. Thanks Lorri, Inwill take a look at that
  12. Hi Manasota, I have wondered for some time, if probiotics actually made a difference. I suspect a lot of us in here want to feel like we are doing something positive to help our situation. I too, have been unable to work for sometime due to chronic health, and it can be very scary, I agree. I feel like I swing from one condition to another, each...
  13. Hi Manasota, 'You're right about it being a long, lonely road. I too have done much research, a lot of it is conflicting advice or confusing. I go round and round in circles trying to find answers. I take acidophilus daily to try and normalise and balance 'friendly bacteria' in the gut. Some of my intolerances did start before being diagnosed with...
  14. Hi Manasota, when you said luckily you tried again, does that mean you are symptom free now? I had one or two intolerances before but nothing like I have now. These have developed since I've given up gluten and wheat.
  15. How do they test for this Lorri?
  16. Yes, it looks a good place to start. Sometimes I get to the point where I've taken so much out of my diet, that there's not much left, and if you're 'barking up the wrong tree', you don't know what to do for the best
  17. Thank you Cristiana, that is very helpful! I've had a look at the link and it is very informative. It's one of the best FODMAP explanations I've seen.
  18. Hi everyone, I was just wondering how common it is for people to develop food intolerances after being diagnosed with coeliac disease? I have had coeliac disease for a few years now, but recently have become intolerant to quite a few other things. I was already having problems with diary, for about a year before being diagnosed, but now,, I'm having problems...
  19. Not sure what you mean by perfecting your diet? Do you mean accidentally eating gluten? As to re-introducing gluten again, if you have celiac disease, please DO NOT ever re-introduce gluten again. It's an auto-immune disease, not a food intolerance. It will damage your gut again if you do. Hope this helps.
  20. Hi, I know the feeling! I've been like this again for a few months - I've been gluten free for a few years now, but have recently had problems again. I'm pretty sure I haven't had any gluten, but a, keeping a food diary to see if any other food intolerances have come to light. So far the suspects are yeast and soya (I am already dairy intolerant). It might...
  21. Most definitely keep off the wheat/gluten, it's so not worth it. Good luck with the other implant. It will take a few months before the supplements start to work, so don't feel despondent if it doesn't help right away.
  22. Having recently given up eating meat. I was pleased to find at the Christmas holidays that a lot of Quorn products were gluten free, I even had some for Christmas dinner. Over the next few weeks I noticed I was having a lot of stomach cramps, and wondered if I had eaten any gluten by mistake. This has gone on intermittently for about 3 weeks. Then on Monday...
  23. I asked a similar question years ago when I was first diagnosed with coeliac disease. I was unable to find anything though. All I do know is I was very ill, my symptoms had been diagnosed many years ago as IBS. It was decades later when I was walking with a stick because I was so weak I could barely walk. My muscles were weak even when sitting or lying down...
  24. I agree with "Looking for answers" there is a lot of sugar in gluten free foods, there seems to be more substitute for sweet treats and deserts more than savoury. I am still intolerant to all dairy products after a few years of gluten free eating, but I was ill for a very long time before getting a diagnosis, so I'm presuming that it takes longer to totally...
  25. Hi, I'm also from the UK. The above links are very useful for newly diagnosed coeliacs but if you join Coeliac UK, you will also get a lot of help which is more relevant to UK and Europe. (e.g. Shopping for food and restaurants etc., as the laws have recently changed regarding food labelling and eating out in restaurants, fast food places and other things...
