  1. Hi Lisa, That sounds awful, I hope it didn't do any damage to his lungs. I am already taking a probiotic (almost a week since I started a new course). Is HCL the hydrochloric acid tablet I've been hearing about? i will have to check to see if I can obtain it in UK. During the course of my first endoscopy I was told I had a hiatus hernia, so I'm thinking...
  2. Hi Barftull, I had already stopped taking my PPI when I realised that I shouldn't go 'cold turkey', perhaps this is what has happened. It is too late now, and I'm not keen to go back on them as I've heard of people having so many problems with them. I wonder if I should just sit tight and see if things improve. I am taking a non-dairy/no gluten/no...
  3. Hi w8in4Dave, PPI is a proton pump inhibitor which you take each morning on an empty stomach, which is supposed to suppress acid. Unfortunately, it has stopped working. There a number of theories as to why that should be. To begin with, after going gluten free it helped, but sadly this is no longer the case for me.
  4. Hi everyone, I was diagnosed Celiac disease about 2 & 1/2 years ago, but even before that had bad problems with acid reflux. I have been taking a PPI (Proton Pump Inhibitor) for about 5 years, maybe longer. However, recently, it stopped helping my problem. I wake in the night with burning acid in my throat and mouth. I have been having problems...
  5. I don't know why they found it necessary to add flour to that did either I must admit I would have assumed the same thing. I hope you are not feeling too ill. (Fingers crossed eh?).
  6. I agree with GLUTEN FREE Lover, if you are celiac, these foods can actually kill you if you continue to eat them! I know which I would rather be without! There's lots of things I've had to give up, but I don't think it's worth the risk, even a small amount of gluten damages your gut. Your health will most probably improve when you've been gluten free...
  7. Yes, you are not alone! I think a lot of it is her age, and she's started to forget things too. Let's just keep going! This site is great for support!
  8. Wonder if I could convince my mum to change? She's on pills to keep her heartbeat regular. She's in her 80's - the only thing is she's only partially sighted and it would be more challenging for her and may easily get cross contamination I know thyroid problems run in our family (my thyroid improved after my coeliac diagnosis) and these auto-immune diseases...
  9. I think that's wise, and hope you get some answers. Good luck!
  10. You are so right Irish Heart, It makes me feel like I'm fussing or being pedantic for asking too many questions, and I have in the past, done the same as you and 'assumed' too much. These are our lives though and we must do everything in our power to make sure we don't get glutened - if we don't do it, who else is there? We are the ones that will suffer...
  11. I know what you mean, I have similar problems with my mum. One minute I thinks she 'gets it' the next thing, she says something which makes me think, she hasn't grasped it at all. We had a day out recently, and couldn't quite believe how little choice there was for me at the place we were at. I managed to get a bottle of plain water, while everyone else had...
  12. Sorry to hear you are having so much trouble. Have you had your vitamin and mineral levels checked? Also full blood count etc? Also, keeping a journal can help you spot things that may have crept into your diet that you should 'to be eating. I also agree with the previous post, that dairy can be a problem for Celiacs. I cannot touch dairy at all and I've...
  13. Could be a sign of glutening, so I would double check your vitamin is gluten/wheat free. Other than that, I would agree that your body is just catching up.
  14. I have to agree with. MJ_S and have not been able to tolerate dairy even after being gluten free for over 2 years (I gave up dairy about 1 & 1/2 years before I found I had Celiacs disease). I have a small amount of lactose in tablets I take and seem to be okay with that, but as lactose and dairy are not quite the same, I find even a small amount of dairy...
  15. Have you ever tried slippery elm? I find that very useful after being glutened. I don't find peppermint very useful really, and it's actually not recommended for certain gastro illnesses, (e.g. GERD or hiatus hernia) as it can be made worse with peppermint.
  16. I've had a similar experience recently and the only thing that helped me was gluten and wheat free slippery elm (in capsule form). Hope this helps. Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.
  17. I know exactly what you mean! Before I was diagnosed with Celiac disease I was so scared, I too was very weak. I needed a walking stick just to walk very short distances. I would describe it as being like a bag of jelly (Jello?), even when resting I felt like I had an inner shaking, not visible on the outside, my hair was falling out too. Do you know...
  18. That's a really good point! Thanks. The only thing is, I have recently had my yearly review before this problem started up, and I'm only allowed one a year at the hospital. I will look into getting a private consultation with a dietitian though. Many thanks.
  19. Thanks, I will check that book out. I think you have a point about the fructose, I have discovered that fruit sugar does not agree with me too! It's getting to the point where I'm distrusting a lot of foodstuffs, but if I limit my diet now, then gradually add things in, it maybe easier to pinpoint what foods are the real culprits.
  20. Thanks. I stopped taking Metformin the other day but the symptoms have continued. One of the reasons I decided to stop eating bananas was the amount of sugar that's in them and cutting out the Metformin I can really do without elevated glucose levels right now. Plus, I seem to be having a problem with certain sugars.
  21. Recently I've been keeping a food journal to see if a cross contamination issue can be identified, but really can't find anything. I was just wondering how long after going gluten free, do other food intolerances crop up? I already have a number of them which started before being diagnosed with Celiacs. For the last 10 days I've had bad stomach cramps...
  22. Let us know how you get on. Sometimes things remain a mystery - I know from experience as I'm going through similar stuff myself. Good luck!
  23. I was thinking the same, I will see if there's any improvement after a few days. Thank you!
  24. I've managed by diabetes for the last 11 years on diet alone, and as it's a progressive disease, it has been necessary at this stage for some extra help.
  25. No I doubt it. I've had 4 gastroscopies in the last 2 years, I think they would have noticed.
