  1. Hi Heather! I know how you feel. I too hate going out to eat, as there are so many places that do not fully understand what gluten free means. Not all chefs are as informed as your boyfriend. Some places mistakenly think it's okay to cook the gluten free food in an area where gluten is cooked, as I have found out recently! I think it depends on the person...
  2. You can get wheat starch that has had all gluten removed from it, so that may explain it. I won't even touch foods that say that as I am very sensitive to wheat as well as having coeliac disease. Hope you are Okay!
  3. What an absolute nightmare! No wonder you lost it! I think anyone would in your position. It makes you wonder how these people can be qualified io have a job in a hospital. It's no better across the pond either, I'm afraid to say. :-( All I can offer is sympathy. Apart from the food fiasco, hope the surgery went well.
  4. Hi! First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. Is it possible while under such stress and upset, that something has gotten passed your radar? Sometimes, when we are not full concentrating when under a strain,, it is possible that something has got into your diet without you realising. Of course though, it is possible to have similar symptoms to those...
  5. I'm not sure but fizzy drinks can deplete potassium levels and low potassium can cause palpitations.
  6. As far as I can tell, the jury's still out re: verdict on wheat grass. Personally, I wouldn't chance it though. I'm a bit like you, if it mentions wheat, I give it a swerve. As well as having Coeliacs disease, I also am very sensitive to wheat and won't touch anything unless it's wheat and gluten free.
  7. Yes! Definitely! I posted something similar last month. I was at the hairdressers and I accidentally gulped in hairspray when my stylist was setting my style. I was really ill afterwards. It is possible to get gluten free hairspray, you should check it out.
  8. First of all, I'm really pleased that your reaction last week was not anaphylaxis, although asthma is quite horrid. I am a little concerned about your reaction to the sesame seeds yesterday though and think perhaps you should get that investigated as next time your symptoms could be worse. - Sorry, I don't want to alarm you, and I hope I'm wrong. Perhaps...
  9. It could be an allergic reaction, as has already been said. I have a similar problem on my stomach and have been using something called Sudocrem - I don't know if you can get it in other countries, I'm in the UK. That seems to calm it down, as it drives me daft, and I've actually bruised my skin with scratching, as well as making it bleed. I've also started...
  10. I agree with the above comment. I have had similar issues and am intolerant to dairy and have had difficulty getting enough fibre in my diet (until recently) since becoming gluten free - being a sufferer of IBS for 30 years. Keep a food journal to see if anything shows up there.
  11. LOL VeggieGal, you've just reminded me:- I sometimes leave taps on. One day I couldn't work out why the radiators were stone cold, in the middle of winter. I kept checking them, even though the boiler was on, and had been for hours. I even called the plumber out,to fix the fault. Then about two hours later I went into the utility room and saw the hot tap...
  12. LOL! I've been there too! I have more than one condition that causes brain fog, having fibromyalgia, Coeliacs and under active thyroid. Some of the things I remember doing is putting hair styling mousse on my face instead of face wash; going to the supermarket in odd shoes - I'd been round half way before I looked down and realised. I've also put in odd earrings...
  13. I don't think I'm brave enough to do my own hair ;-) I'm sure i'll be fine if I don't let them use hair spray.
  14. Whatever works for you I guess. I couldn't do this as I have my hair coloured each time I go. I have premature greying due to my thyroid condition.
  15. Good plan!
  16. Hi, sorry I'm only just replying, this reply ended up in my junk box I was thinking of taking my own, when I actually find one that doesn't contain gluten. I had to throw a lot away as I found my favourites also contained gluten. I think I would have been okay had I not accidentally gulped in a mouthful as she was spraying my hair.
  17. Hi! Yes I know what you mean. It's a lot to get your head around at first isn't it. Also it can make you feel isolated unless you know where to look. Is there anything in particular you need help with? There is also a chat room on here too - although I've not used it as most of the people I talk to on here are in another time zone (I'm in the UK). I try...
  18. Hi MsCurious I am fairly new to the forum compared to yourself, but found your post very helpful. Thank you for sharing!
  19. As with all things, it's possible, although I would not automatically assume it was in the absence of any other symptoms. To put your mind at rest, you need to get tested, especially as your mum already has coeliac disease. Don't forget, some Coeliacs don't actually have any symptoms. In order to get tested though, you need to be eating gluten and wheat...
  20. Yes, thank you Yolo. It's amazing how all these things are inter-linked. I love this forum as everyone helps each other, we have nothing anywhere near as good in UK!
  21. I would never have thought of that until you mentioned it, but I too hated milk as a child and it was a long, long time before I realised that I had a problem with dairy. It was my doctor who picked up on the point that being intolerant to dairy may be an indicator that I had Coeliacs disease, along with other symptoms of course.
  22. You certainly seem very positive about it all. I don't let others prepare my food either. I like to know exactly where it's been! Some people just don't 'get' how careful we need to be, especially when it comes to cross-contamination. There are a few things I can't eat too, which have nothing to do with Coeliacs, but no where near as challenging as your diet...
  23. It's not something I'm familiar with, but I will certainly check it out! Thanks!
  24. Thanks for replying. I already eat beans, jacket potatoes, fresh fruit and nuts, it's difficult getting 30g of fibre a day though. I am having difficulty in finding a source of dried fruit which has not been contaminated with gluten or wheat. I was about to buy some prunes in a health store yesterday when I was told they were produced on a line which also...
