  1. Sometimes I have to stop and remind myself to remember the little triumphs I've had and how far I've come already. Then I see the progress. Sometimes it feels like the changes are happening in slow motion and taking a lot longer than they really are. I try to keep track of the changes I've made on a calendar so I can look back and see them when things feel...
  2. Honestly, I don't think much about what I can't eat, I've had food problems most of my life in one way or another, that's not new for me. I do miss sometimes having the option of throwing some easy thing in the microwave without having to think. Being too tired to go out to buy produce, make anything from scratch, or even eat it is the hardest part. The days...
  3. Yikes! I eat lots of berries Time to start going to the local farmers markets, no matter how tired I might be. Very helpful. I started drinking alkaline(Kangen)water today. A new friend has a machine at her house. She swears it will change my life, and start the toxins moving out of my body. After drinking 48 oz of it, I can already feel the toxins...
  4. You said just what I needed to hear bartfull, thanks so much ...and you're so sweet. I do already fear there will nothing left for me to eat, I'm so limited. This is the first time someone else has said that besides me. Gluten is off the list for good, and I don't care about that either, but it will be nice to get my other foods back eventually. I only...
  5. I can SO relate. I've missed lots of days at work, and still haven't been able to work more than half days. I'm always afraid I'll have to go home sick. Social things are out of the question. I never know how I'll feel each day. It is keeping me from living life, so I understand. Luckily my work knows what I am going through and has been understanding, although...
  6. Did anybody feel like they were never going to get better, then finally get over the hump? Please say yes. It's taking so long to see any changes. Part of the day I'll feel ok then I'll feel sick again... achy all over, headache, nausea (still an improvement from how it used to be). Every day is like that. Each time I've discovered a new reaction to a food...
  7. I agree, it really is important to get enough good fats in your diet too. We have become conditioned to avoid fat, but it's just as important as all the other food groups. Avocados work wonders for me to extend my blood sugar level to the next meal. This is a good reminder for me too, to count the fat grams I'm taking in daily. It's easy to forget to get...
  8. Maybe focus on yourself until you feel better, then you'll have more energy to help the rest of your family? I think they will also be encouraged when they see you feeling better. When you have more energy, your kids will still be eating gluten, and can be tested more accurately. You'll heal faster without the added stress of trying to deal with so much at...
  9. I agree, it looks and feels more natural and comfortable to be eating something along with everyone. I enjoy the experience more when I bring something I can enjoy eating along with the other guests. I do think that people tend to enjoy themselves more too if they feel like everyone is enjoying the activity, and might be concerned for you if you have nothing...
  10. I talked to someone who traveled to Paris recently, and he told me there was an excellent gluten free bakery he tried there. Encouraging
  11. While I'm so sensitive I don't really trust anything unless it has been prepared in a certified gluten free facility and has the symbol: the black circle with G F inside it. A lot of foods claim to be gluten free, but they get cross contaminated from the other things made in the same factory. I have much better luck in stores like Sprouts Farmers Market,where...
  12. Gluten is the main offender, and some of the other sensitivities people have are often temporary. Some think gluten intolerance will become an epidemic. It's the super concentrated gluten wheat grown in America that's pushing people over the edge into the intolerant zone. Seems like wheat is bound to become less of a main staple in people's diets. For kids...
  13. My blood test was negative too, but I'll be gluten free for life anyway. I think that's pretty common. I can't touch the stuff.
  14. Same here. I can't tolerate many things temporarily until my intestinal lining heals. In my case, on top of gluten, I also get the same reaction right now from rice, corn, eggs, and nightshade plants (potatoes, tomatoes, peppers). I am assured by my Dr that I will be able to eat these other things again in time, and I've read posts on here where people say...
  15. Thanks Ravenwoodglass, Bubba's Mom, and mamaw for your kind responses, and helpful ideas. I'm taking probiotics, and will start using the coconut oil that's been sitting on my shelf. My ND actually called me to check how I was doing, and to see if I had started the cleanse yet, I was amazed. I had a chance to ask her more questions about it, and learned...
  16. My ND thinks I may have a parasite issue, because my leaky gut and related constipation problems are so bad. I, myself, have no reason to suspect that I have parasites, but I'm searching for answers because I'm sick so much of the time and not getting better. She would prefer I get a very expensive (Company Name Removed - They Spammed This Forum and are...
  17. That is so helpful, thanks. I'm taking a break from the probiotics to see what happens. It's starting to seem like each thing my ND asks me to try makes me worse. Now she's asked me to try a parasite cleanse, though I have no reason to suspect I have any parasites. I just don't think she realizes what a delicate balance it is in there while our intestinal...
  18. I have been using So Delicious coconut milk for months or a Trader Joe's brand with similar ingredients. There are a lot of additives in both, though nothing that causes a gluten like reaction for me. My nutritionist suggested adding coconut milk to my diet, and I didn't realize some had additives while others didn't. I'm questioning these products now because...
  19. Someone in an earlier post said: "My nutritionist told me that a lot of people with Celiac have a hard time with high amounts of probiotics at least until they heal more" My ND has me taking two different probiotic capsules twice a day, that's four capsules every day. I'm not getting better, and I feel sick so much of the time. Is anyone else taking...
  20. Well, according to my dentist, it looks like I'll be having my first root canal, and I'm suspicious about the role gluten may have played in it. On the plus side I now have a waterpik and I love it! But why does the dentist always have to tap on the sore tooth with his heavy metal instrument just to "make sure" it hurts. Hello, I already told him where it...
  21. I recently had trapped gas, which isn't a usual symptom for me and it was really painful, so I feel for you. Gas X usually works well occasionally when I need it. When constipation gets bad enough though, it's beyond fiber and dietary changes and you need to be more proactive: enemas work. It's not as bad as it sounds. I only use purified water enemas. I...
  22. Boy do I hear you on this one. I too have so few things my body will tolerate. I try not to think about what will happen if there is nothing left for me to eat. Yes, you can develop a problem to a food all of a sudden when you used to tolerate it fine. It's happened to me several times. Most recently nightshade plants gave me a bad reaction out of the blue...
  23. Has anyone experienced sensitivity in their gums from eating foods they are sensitive to? I found out today that I AM sensitive to potatoes in addition to other nightshades. I feel sore all over and my recent sensitive gums (2-3 weeks) seem more painful right now. It even hurts up toward my sinus and cheekbone on one side, but no swelling. I made an appt...
  24. Songbirdy, I don't think you'll run into problems, and it hasn't been my experience. One restaurant I went to offered to make me a gluten free version of the meal. It's all in how YOU handle it. If you act like you're doing something wrong, others will get the same idea. If you are relaxed and subtle about it, I doubt anyone will notice. If you get there...
