ARCHIVED Histamine Intolerance - Please Read!
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It's a relief to have this piece of the puzzle! Really, I think I have had this tendency my whole life. It makes sense. I seem to react when I reach tilt with certain foods. I developed my corn and mold sensitivity 20 years ago from working in the midwest and it's been with me ever since. I do ok until my exposure gets too high. Better when I cut those things... -
ARCHIVED Histamine Intolerance - Please Read!
FruitEnthusiast posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Well, I believe I have developed a histamine intolerance for the time being. That seems to be the reason I have been having the symptoms I've been posting about lately. Itchiness, eye irritation, achiness, joint pain, nausea, brain fog. That is why I sat in the ER parking lot yesterday just in case my symptoms developed into anaphylaxis. I could feel... -
ARCHIVED Tired Of Having No Life
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you all so much for your comments. It makes feel so much less alone to know you can relate. It’s been two years for me and several times I thought I was just about over the hump, then I’m not. It gets to me sometimes. We all have stresses, and a biggie for me is that I will be turning 50 later this year, and here I am, divorced (thank goodness), b... -
I'm tired of living my life sick, in my pajamas! Every time I start to get better and start imagining myself at a party wearing a skirt, I get hit with another food that makes me sick. Ever since I found I was gluten intolerant and went gluten free, any slight change in my diet gets me every time! I avoid sugar but I was feeling deprived and had...

So, I can add sugar to the list of things things I have a problem with. Oh goody. Anyone know of a good Allergist in the Long Beach, CA area?

ARCHIVED I Think I’Ve Been “Corned”
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi catmaus6, Welcome to the site There is a lot of support here. The foods that give each of us trouble are as individual as we are. Not everyone is sensitive to corn, but it's good that you found some relief by cutting it out. One important thing to know is that not all foods labeled "gluten free" are created equal. Some brands can be trusted but... -
ARCHIVED Additional Food Intolerances - Poll
FruitEnthusiast replied to CR5442's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
After going gluten-free, developed the same symptoms as with gluten to: rice, eggs, nightshades, coconut, soy. I haven’t tested any of them since because I’m still healing. Symptoms: C, brain fog, blurred vision, nausea, fatigue, joint pain, occasional mild neuropathy in feet. Still get those at times, especially brain fog. In the first six months I a... -
ARCHIVED Fragrance-Less
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
You said it! By the way, I used to have trouble going through the cosmetic counters is stores, back in the days when they used to fill the air with clouds of perfume, it was very irritating to my nose. Remember how they used to come up and spray perfume right on you before you could even blink! That would make me so mad. Boy have things changed, or started... -
ARCHIVED Fragrance-Less
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks GS, that's definitely good info to keep in mind. I also had started to wonder if my sensitivities were increasing after problems with gluten. It really sucks that you have to deal with that, as if Gluten isn't a big enough problem! Actually, now I think it may not have been a fragrance issue (or a corn issue, which you may have seen me talk about... -
ARCHIVED Why Do I Have Symptoms From Activity?
FruitEnthusiast replied to CaliSparrow's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well, it's so different for all of us. For some going gluten free solves the problem, and for others, like myself as well, it's more like a puzzle with many pieces. My energy level is still not good either. I am still trying to unravel what the sources of my problem are and then a new one pops up. It's complicated and frustrating. I know how hard it is. ... -
ARCHIVED I Just Want To Fuss!
FruitEnthusiast replied to CajunChic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah that's why I don't go out to eat until I'm feeling better. Of course when I tell "normal" people that, their faces drop with incomprehension. There is so much chance of cross contamination in restaurants. I don't trust the people that work there to be careful. They're busy, and they don't get that a knife that just cut a sandwich is no longer a gluten... -
ARCHIVED I Think I’Ve Been “Corned”
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks Bartfull! I have many things made of plastic around here too that I'm wondering about, like plastic baggies for example. I probably will have questions for you as soon as my head stops spinning. I developed my corn problem when I worked in Kansas City for three years and that was twenty years ago! I actually had to move back to the CA coast away... -
I think there has been hidden corn in my diet from something I new nothing about: Plastic made from corn! I’ve been sensitive to corn for decades, I’ve avoided it entirely since my gluten problems started. For the last week or two I’ve been itchy from a newly developed fragrance intolerance. I’ve been getting all new fragrance free products, but not fee...

ARCHIVED Think I Got It :(
FruitEnthusiast replied to w8in4dave's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I know about BPA plastic, and I thought it was a thing of the past for plastic bottles, water especially. I drink bottled water all the time and I don't think I've had trouble with it, but problems with cans having a plastic lining? That is something I haven't heard before. I'm also not familiar with corn as a possibility in plastic. I'm really surprised... -
ARCHIVED Think I Got It :(
FruitEnthusiast replied to w8in4dave's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm confused, what can be a problem eating something out of a can? What does it have to do with BPA plastic and corn? I'm sensitive to corn and I eat some things out of cans every day because I have to eat vegetables and fruit so much it gets exhausting keeping produce fresh, shopping often etc. I don't think it's causing a problem, but I've never heard this... -
ARCHIVED Fragrance-Less
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Awww, Thanks A! I hadn't thought of the essential oils yet. That's so funny, to be aware of how they will effect you before using them. That could be really important, depending on the situation. I love the smell of peppermint and licorice. That makes me feel better already. I'm gunna go smell my natural organic peppermint mints right now. I have those for... -
Well, this seems like a silly thing to complain about in light of the more serious health issues we deal with on here, but I’ve had to go all fragrance free as some of you may have read recently. Several of you have offered great advice. Finding new products isn’t that hard, a little time and energy consuming, but not hard. Us sensitive folks have it pre...

ARCHIVED Need A Dr. Referral In Long Beach, Ca Area?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Doctors
Just to clarify, I’m not a fan of the “gluten challenge” after reading about the suffering it has caused others, but I haven’t been through it personally. I don’t believe the potential damage it can do makes it good way to seek a diagnosis. That’s just my opinion. Any comments I made were not in reference to any specific doctor. I’ve heard only positive... -
ARCHIVED Coconut Oil/milk
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As someone who has allergies/intolerances to several things, I plan to avoid anything that tends to be a problem for many, so shea butter will be on the list of things not to try. I'm allergic to wool, bees, cats (mildly), and salmon (this is an odd one). I'm allergic to 2 out the 4 available classes of antibiotics. I've been sensitive to corn and mold long... -
ARCHIVED Coconut Oil/milk
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think it was an intolerance not an allergy, I never had a problem with coconut until after my gluten diagnosis. So, I agree it’s safe to try it. I’ll try a spot of the oil to test it on my skin first, then try the milk at some point. I did find coconut milk with no other additives at Trader Joes when I had tried it before. A topical vit E for scars is ... -
Don't go on the trip! Do you have to go? I may have missed something you may have posted already. I assume your husband wants you to go maybe? Put yourself first. There's nothing wrong with telling him you are just not well enough to go. You mention stress and I would hate for you to get worse and lose whatever recovery you have had. No guilt. You deserve...

ARCHIVED Need A Dr. Referral In Long Beach, Ca Area?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Doctors
Thanks CS! I missed your post somehow, just saw it today. No way would I attempt the so called "Gluten Challenge" if it is the eat gluten again until you're sick as a dog, then get tested for Celiac. If so, I think any Dr is nuts to put someone through that just for a diagnosis. Makes me wonder what they're up to, but I have to admit the term guinea pig... -
ARCHIVED Coconut Oil/milk
FruitEnthusiast posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Early on when I was reacting to so many foods, one of the foods I had to give up was Coconut Milk. I haven't tried any coconut milk for a year and a half. (Boy, it sure has paid off to write down dietary changes on my calendar) Anyway, now since I'm having issues with fragrances in non-food products and going fragrance free, I would like to try coconut oil... -
ARCHIVED Suddenly Sensitive To Lotion?

Anybody try Free and Clear hair products? The reviews on Walgreens are good. They have a soap too. Think I'll give 'em a try. -
ARCHIVED Suddenly Sensitive To Lotion?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I knew I wasn't crazy... that the itchiness wasn't all the way gone and I wondered if that was the reason. I did re-wash my hair and it did help, but the over all eebie jeebies are driving me nuts!!! I've exhausted myself re-doing all this laundry. Now I can tell I'm going to have to give in and take a nap and I just want to say, I HATE NAPS!! I'd rather...
