I'm so frustrated. In the last two years since going gluten-free I've seemed almost well several times, then more food intolerances crop up and I'm not better. I thought I was on the right path a week ago, and had figured out the missing piece of the puzzle, then the same thing happens again. I start to feel sick and realize that my recurring C problem has...

ARCHIVED Help: I Need Vegetable Substitutes And Seed/nut Subs.
FruitEnthusiast replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'm sorry you're having trouble now, it sounded like you had been doing a lot better. I'm continuing to have problems too. Every time I think I'm over the hump, I'm not, I'm sick again. It's frustrating. So, I can relate. -
ARCHIVED It Was Supposed To Be Over At Gluten Free! Help :(
FruitEnthusiast replied to AnnaChristine18's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds like you're on the right track, learning the different things to look for. These are all good questions. The supplement sounds pretty good. Most people with leaky gut, myself included, take L-Glutamine for it. I would get some in addition to the supplement so you're having more of it. I try to take it twice a day. Make sure you're getting enough...- 88 replies

ARCHIVED I Need Help Dealing
FruitEnthusiast replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You can definitely be tested for SIBO (Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth). I'm surprised your GI didn't mention that, wait, no I'm not, mine didn't either. For you it seems like an obvious thing to test for though. I would recommend getting tested for that. I think it's pretty common for people like us to get that. I know what the test is like, but I haven... -
ARCHIVED Going To Someone's House For The Weekend
FruitEnthusiast replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it were me, I would bring my own food and call ahead and be direct. I'd say: "please don't cook for me, I prefer to eat food I make myself". You can dress it up a little: "thank you so much for caring enough to try to prepare something for me, but it makes it much harder for me than just making it myself". I think a lot of people drop hints or beat... -
Good for you! He can reroute that in another direction... like to another coworker. You have enough on your plate.

ARCHIVED Summer Parties
FruitEnthusiast replied to w8in4dave's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I don't eat anything unless I make it and I carry an insulated lunch bag with an ice pack in it anywhere I go. Maybe if your friends saw you bring something like that with you, they would get that if you didn't bring it in your bag, it doesn't go in your mouth. I would ask them to please not make me anything again because you can't eat it and you feel bad... -

How do you do with lettuces? These aren't unusual but weren't mentioned - baby spinach and kale. Both are high in protein. Jicama was mentioned, I like it, but I don't know if you can get that in the midwest, I'm on the west coast. Can you have avocados? Fresh coconut (it's very high in insoluble fiber if you can tolerate that)? I know you're aware of histamine... -

Hope you'll let us know how it goes... I don't know about D, but I was reading that soluble fiber slows down digestion. You want to avoid insoluble fiber of course, but it was news to me about the soluble fiber info. I don't know if that's of any help to you. Hope you can eat more soon, you'll feel better. -
ARCHIVED Forum Section For Non-Celiac On The Gluten-Free Diet?
FruitEnthusiast replied to GFinDC's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
GFinDC, what you say about the site being accepting NCGI members is true. Still I (obviously) feel somewhat like an outsider to some degree just because the site is called celiac.com. I guess I have to get over that. Your idea was intended to be more inclusive of NCGI members and others without a dx, like myself, so I appreciate it. GottaSki, I didn't... -
ARCHIVED Forum Section For Non-Celiac On The Gluten-Free Diet?
FruitEnthusiast replied to GFinDC's topic in Board/Forum Technical Help
Maybe I have the wrong idea about this thread, but as a NCGI who tested negative for Celiac because my Dr. told me to go off gluten before getting tested, I really wouldn't want to be lumped together with non-celiacs who don't have to take gluten seriously just because they don't have an official dx. I've been extremely sick for two years and consider this... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Multivitamins?
FruitEnthusiast replied to Bschwarze's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yes, I guess for time release pills that would be the case. I don't have any written evidence for this but I have heard and read that Centrum vitamins which may be the most popular multi (I used to take them myself) are coated with shellac which is the same thing used in wood finishing. I used to get colonics and the lady I used to go to said she has... -
ARCHIVED Trouble With Culturelle Probiotic
FruitEnthusiast replied to CajunChic's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I started Culturelle 9 days ago to rotate the probiotics I'm taking and I'm not sure it's related but I've been having nausea and headaches and I'm not sure why. Maybe they don't agree with me. I'm going to stop them to see if it helps and go back on the multi strain I was taking, I didn't have any problem with those. If Culturelle is targeted for D, that... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Multivitamins?
FruitEnthusiast replied to Bschwarze's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've heard that capsules are best because the pills can sometimes have a coating on them that can be harder to break down, especially the less expensive ones. It's not always easy to find all my supplements in capsules though. I guess if the pill doesn't have a coating on it to make it shiny, it wouldn't matter. I try to stick to health food store/sites for... -
ARCHIVED Alternatives To Wooden Spoons?
FruitEnthusiast replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I always wonder about non-stick coating like teflon, if it's safe, even with no scratches. When I look it up online I find both pro and con points of view. Do you have a good link that talks about the dangers. I'd like to answer this question for myself and I think it's relevant for all of us since we tend to be sensitive. I've become super sensitive. ... -
ARCHIVED I Need Help Dealing
FruitEnthusiast replied to C-Girl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Really sorry you're having such a hard time right now. I understand the frightening part, I've been there. Glad you're having more tests. There is always an answer, and you'll find it. I agree this site is a good place to come to talk about our issues. It has helped me many times. I have the opposite of D, so can't help much with that. I do have a... -
ARCHIVED It Was Supposed To Be Over At Gluten Free! Help :(
FruitEnthusiast replied to AnnaChristine18's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, that's such an important point - the anxiety is a symptom or side effect that comes with this. That has been maybe the hardest part of all for me to cope with. I don't naturally have anxiety, but I've had it really bad off and on while dealing with this. I had really bad irritability too in the beginning and that's passed now. I just wasn't myself at...- 88 replies

ARCHIVED Glass Cutting Boards
FruitEnthusiast replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep... the other reason I stopped using them... drove me all the way up the wall!!!!! -
Well, yet another piece of the puzzle solved… on my road to wellness! It's amazing how the process of recovering from the effects of gluten can be like peeling away the layers of an onion - this concerns fiber - I don't know about you, but soluble vs. insoluble has always confused me. I tend toward C, but I think it's relevant to anyone who suffers f...

ARCHIVED Glass Cutting Boards

Just something to consider. Glass is the most non-porous surface, but I believe glass cutting boards will dull your knives quicker than other types... nothing's perfect -
ARCHIVED It Was Supposed To Be Over At Gluten Free! Help :(
FruitEnthusiast replied to AnnaChristine18's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I'm sorry you're feeling so uncomfortable I don't know anything about the bloating, that isn't one of my symptoms, but it sounds miserable. The Celiac Center sounds like a good plan. Many GI's don't have enough experience with the problems we face to help that much. Mine is like that. I'm also not able to work right now until I feel better, or go out...- 88 replies

ARCHIVED Like Many, At The End Of My Rope.
FruitEnthusiast replied to louise1974's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I use a digestive enzyme that I learned about on this site called "Digest Gold" by Enzymedica. It works well for me, but it's pricey. I tried another one by the same company called "Digest" which is cheaper but I didn't notice a difference until I switched to the better ones. It was money well spent. I don't know of any others. You could start a new topic... -
ARCHIVED Like Many, At The End Of My Rope.
FruitEnthusiast replied to louise1974's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
No, you are not the only one who gets to the end of their rope! It passes though, or it comes and goes as you figure things out. I know it's easy to say, but the more you stress about it, the harder it is on your digestive system. I've started actively doing everything I can to reduce stress (that's new for me) and it's helping. For me a lot of clutter... -
ARCHIVED Alternatives To Wooden Spoons?
FruitEnthusiast replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have never liked wooden spoons or cutting boards because I don't feel like they ever get clean. I won't use 'em, that's just me. I have always had food issues my whole life of one type or another so I figure why wonder what has soaked into the wood and is lurking there... no offense to wooden spoon fans. I have some mixing spoons I love that are white...
