ARCHIVED Chronic Constipation
FruitEnthusiast replied to BeckyW's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When I was looking into protein powders, it was recommended by the staff at the health food store to introduce it gradually. Too much protein added at once can cause C. Make sure to drink plenty of water along with the protein you're eating. Also with fiber, adding more with out enough water can worsen C. Many people do well with a second dose of Miralax... -

I believe Senna is natural, but I don't know much about it. My GI had me taking it daily for a while but it didn't do anything for me. I think I read that mineral oil on a regular basis can inhibit the absorption of nutrients. Olive oil on a daily basis is supposed to be good, a tablespoon twice a day can soften and lubricate. Especially a tablespoon before... -
ARCHIVED Chronic Constipation
FruitEnthusiast replied to BeckyW's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Miralax works very well for me. I can't take more than one dose in the morning though or it makes me feel horribly sick (it wants to work faster than my motility will allow which create pressure that can't move). There is no such thing as TMI when it comes to C! Smooth Move Tea is available at health food stores. It has senna in it which is also available... -
ARCHIVED Shopping Is A Pain!

Yeah, I know, I like to see things in person too before buying. Good luck going to the store near you. I hope you find some good things you like there -
ARCHIVED Shopping Is A Pain!
FruitEnthusiast replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sorry to hear that You can try looking online for gluten-free products. There is a section on this site I think that offers things like that. You can post about things you want to try and get feedback. Also, making things from scratch is an option. There are flours available, things like that and people post recipes on this site. Or, occasional trips to... -
ARCHIVED Shopping Is A Pain!
FruitEnthusiast replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Try a health food store like Sprouts or Whole Foods. They have a lot more gluten free stuff and brands you can trust. No, I don't think there is any kind of regulation about putting "gluten-free" on packaging. It's a pain but it's a good idea to continue reading labels, even on things you already use, the ingredients can change. -
ARCHIVED Powders And Shakes To Heal The Gut?
FruitEnthusiast replied to spirit-walk's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
L-Glutamine powder was recommended by my ND, and is one many people take, including me. I can't say if it's working or not but I keep seeing it mentioned so I continue with it. -
ARCHIVED How Do You Deal With Waves Of Depression Post Exposure?
FruitEnthusiast replied to MermaidPaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have positive messages I've written in bold print on 81/2 x 11 paper hung up here and there. They help snap me back to reality when my anxiety hits. That way even though my anxious thoughts feel real, I can remember they are only a symptom, not what's really true. -

In America, you can look for foods that say they are made in a dedicated gluten-free facility, so there's no cross-contamination. Certified gluten free products have a symbol: the letters gluten-free inside a circle. I can't say for sure how reliable that is, I don't eat anything processed right now, others on this site could tell you more about that. I've... -
ARCHIVED Additional Intolerances - Dairy, Potatoes
FruitEnthusiast replied to Montefisto's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My ND told me that once I'm healed, I can try cheese made from sheep or goat's milk. I guess it isn't so troublesome like cow's milk. I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but it gives me hope that I may have cheese again! There are romano cheeses made from sheep's milk that taste just like parmesean only a bit stronger. That's the one I'm hoping for the... -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Omega 3 Capsules

Thanks Good to know. I have avoided soy all along since it's a potential problem food for so many, and because of the GMO factor. I don't think the tuna I was eating had soy. It was Wild Planet tuna from a health food store. I think they are really good about listing all the ingredients, but I can't say for sure. It's more complicated for me, I have... -
ARCHIVED Sugar Causing Symptoms?
FruitEnthusiast replied to spirit-walk's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree. I have had to cut way back on sugar too. I'm trying give it up completely. For now I'm trying to see how I do with just tiny amounts. It is hard to give up. Honey is supposed to be the best sweetener for you, but I've never cared much for it myself. I try to think of fruit as my dessert. -
ARCHIVED Additional Intolerances - Dairy, Potatoes
FruitEnthusiast replied to Montefisto's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It's very common to become intolerant to dairy and nightshades (potatoes) while healing. That doesn't mean you won't be able to tolerate them eventually. I would wait a minimum of 6 months or more before trying them again. Dairy is very hard to digest and my ND told me to consider dairy permanently out of my diet, along with gluten, but others might have... -
ARCHIVED Food Sensitivity Test Results - Today!
FruitEnthusiast replied to Waitingindreams's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Since you mention allergies, and in particular your eyes stinging, I wanted to give you a link about histamine containing foods and symptoms. Sunflower seeds are often a culprit. I've developed a histamine intolerance and I have to avoid the foods on the list. I have more detailed info if you need it. Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Becoming More Sensitive Over Time?
FruitEnthusiast replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm really sorry you're having fears related to food, I know only too well what that feels like. I haven't had any glutening experiences so far. I'm single living alone in a closed environment, and never eat elsewhere. I do have fears about what will happen when I venture out eventually. I seem to have become sensitive to more foods in the last 2 years... -
ARCHIVED How Bad Is Sugar?
FruitEnthusiast replied to Steph1's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It's a very helpful and informative site. They explain why they recommend removing grains, starches, and all added sweeteners, except honey for a time to heal, then certain foods can be added back in gradually. It is an extreme approach, which is what it sometimes takes to get well. This diet is recommended by Dr. Pimentel who heads the GI Motility Program... -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Omega 3 Capsules
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks you guys! I feel better today than yesterday Hoping the digestive part resolves soon, too soon to tell. I have to look up flax and chia seeds to find out if I can tolerate them or not. I'm waiting until I recover completely from this current thing to try anything else. You know how that goes... -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Omega 3 Capsules
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I was getting better and that one fish oil capsule completely messed me up. My C was resolving now it's back, along with my anxiety. I still feel sick. Here's hoping this passes quickly. It takes very little to throw my body off and keeps happening over and over. I can't believe how sensitive I still am inside. Maybe I'll feel better tomorrow. -
ARCHIVED I Just Need To Vent.... I'm Apologize In Advance..
FruitEnthusiast replied to ezgoindude's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know what your situation is, but is it possible to find a better roommate eventually? There needs to be a site where someone can look for gluten-free roommates. I wonder if anything like that exists? -

ARCHIVED Reaction To Omega 3 Capsules
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
No supplements, really, not even a probiotic so sorry to hear that. That is just too unfair! What kind of symptoms do you get when you try them, probably different depending on the supplement. I hope that changes for you at some point... I am going to be sending you positive energy that it will -
ARCHIVED Diagnosed 5 Years Ago, No Symptoms. I Don't Care Anymore.
FruitEnthusiast replied to elliott34's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I think one reason so many of us end up so sick in our forties, like myself, is probably because I didn't have any symptoms until a couple years before diagnosis. I'm sick enough now that I must have had damage long before I had any symptoms. Once the symptoms finally kick in, it will hit you like a train wreck. I have also lost my career and social life... -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Omega 3 Capsules
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thank you, I didn't know about flaxseed oil capsules. I agree with you, time to find someone better qualified to help me in the future. I was feeling great, and I still feel sick today from that one capsule yesterday. -
ARCHIVED How Bad Is Sugar?
FruitEnthusiast replied to Steph1's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Exactly. You have said it here better than I did. I read the same thing on WebMD about how we need to have the natural sugar in fruits in our diet. I don't want to give anyone the idea that I suggest removing fresh fruit, it's good for you. I was talking about having refined sugar in moderation, or any concentrated sugar. Sometimes it seems to make sense... -
ARCHIVED How Bad Is Sugar?
FruitEnthusiast replied to Steph1's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Hi Colleen, you asked to see some research… From the CNN Health website: (CNN) March 2014 -- The World Health Organization wants you to stop eating so much sugar. Seriously. The WHO is encouraging people to consume less than 5% of their total daily calories from sugars. Most Americans still consume much more. For an adult at a normal body mass index, ...
