ARCHIVED Sugar Problems
FruitEnthusiast replied to ColtonBarnes's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A month and a half gluten-free isn't very long... the anxiety and depression could definitely last longer than that, it did for me. If you eat only fruit before bed, that's a long time for your blood sugar to drop overnight for me anyway. I don't have serious blood sugar problems, but it will get low if I don't eat often enough, and that will make my... -
Went to my Allergist/Immunologist appointment about my overactive histamine levels today. He knew nothing about Histamine Intolerance Testing, or DAO enzyme testing. He thinks my increased food sensitivities are from my leaky gut - he knew what that was! I couldn't get anything more definitive out of him and I had to pry information out of him as he kept...

ARCHIVED My Histamine Journey
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
My appt with the Allergist was mixed. There were no relevant tests that he was able to give me. He didn't know anything about Histamine Intolerance testing or DAO enzyme testing. He didn't think I needed skin prick testing for life-threatening allergies, and I agreed. He thinks I have developed more food intolerances from leaky gut (he knew what that... -

ARCHIVED My Histamine Journey
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Bruce, I guess I've been eating similar to the Gaps diet. I can't tolerate fermented foods either though. It sounds similar to the Paleo diet. It was really the "what my body would allow diet". I know what you mean by lacking the energy producing "carbs" with no grains. I consider vegetables to be my carbs now I guess. I find raw carrots are the most sustaining... -
I'm NCGI. Over the last two years since going gluten-free, I've had to eat a very limited diet: grain-free, whole foods, prepared at home only, no eating out. I couldn't tolerate any processed "gluten-free" foods or many whole foods either. During that time I have started to improve a few times, think I'm over the hump, then every time I try to add a...

ARCHIVED Explaining The Need To Be Careful If You Don't Have Violent Reactions
FruitEnthusiast replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Glad to hear it went well, that's great! I keep trying to learn new ways to fine tune how I cope with my dietary issues too to make it easier for myself. It sure makes a difference. -
Thanks

ARCHIVED Explaining The Need To Be Careful If You Don't Have Violent Reactions

Ditto! -
Oh no, I should have stayed out of this. I thought someone was encouraging others who didn't already smoke to start. I don't take it lightly as I used to smoke cigarettes, and after I quit, there were smokers trying to get me to start up again. I think that experience clouded my judgment here. Cigars and cigarettes are not the same thing anyway, and it wasn...

Really? Why encourage Celiacs who have enough problems already to smoke? Smoking isn't "safe" for anyone. You can do as you please, but c'mon we're trying to get healthier around here for cryin' out loud

ARCHIVED Explaining The Need To Be Careful If You Don't Have Violent Reactions
FruitEnthusiast replied to BlessedMommy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like you have a good plan already. I might leave out the villi part and stick to something more general like internal damage or nutritional deficiencies. You can explain further if asked, but I don't think you have to unless you want to. Maybe your MIL is the nosy type I don't know. I would say as little as possible. Something like, I found out... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Corn?
FruitEnthusiast replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks. I broke the ice and bought organic whole carrots last night, the ones that are sitting out loose in the produce area (without the green tops), not the ones in a bag. Surprising how hard it was to take that step. I plan to peel mine though, I don't like the taste of the skin. I'm lucky I'm only mildly sensitive to it corn, but since I have developed... -
ARCHIVED Reaction To Starch?!
FruitEnthusiast replied to CR5442's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I agree. The best way most of us here have determined what foods work for us or do not work is to eliminate the food to see if we feel better. You might want to try each food you suspect to be the culprit on different days and see how you feel. It can be challenging to figure it out, but it's really worth it when you start to feel better. I have found... -
ARCHIVED I Have A Life Again
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Who ever thought just being alive would be so damn confusing??? No testing for probiotics... my head is spinning. How do we know what to take? Well, it's a good thing so many people are working on important things like inventing new kinds of breakfast cereal, and all the wonderful packaging it goes in. Now that's time and money well spent!!! -
ARCHIVED Could It Be Corn?
FruitEnthusiast replied to HavaneseMom's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
When you say "pre-packaged", does that include vegetables in a plastic bag? Vegetables sold in plastic bags are rinsed in ascorbic/citric acid, which is made from corn, not from citrus. I think it's to keep them fresh. I've still been buying baby carrots in a bag. I rinse them now when I get home and store them in a different bag, but I might be in... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Supplements
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was low when I was checked after dx. My GI put me on 1000 IU D3 daily, plus I get 400 IU in my Calcium/Magnesium. My levels were fine when I checked again, but I haven't had them checked again at least 6 months. I like to have all my vitamin levels checked regularly but it's expensive, no insurance. Thanks for the reminder, I may want to have it checked... -

I did really appreciate what you had to say in response to my rant. It was a comfort - just what I needed to hear. It took awhile for me to digest the post that was so positive, I didn't like hearing it at first! Venting is necessary, This process is frustrating! I have good and bad days. I hope I didn't give anyone the message that a good rant is a bad... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Supplements
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks NGC! I am, of course, sensitive to mushrooms also!!! I absolutely did mean to say D3, in fact I'll change that in my original post. I didn't have much luck trying to research the info online. Seems D3 sources are made from wool. I am thinking though that since plenty of people seem to be allergic to wool, and D3 continues to be made from wool... -
ARCHIVED Vitamin D Supplements
FruitEnthusiast posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know how important it is for us to get enough Vit D3, since Celiacs tend to be deficient in it. The sun is supposed to be the best source, but I'm sensitive to the sun. Another other source is cod liver oil, but I'm sensitive to fish, and I don't want the excess vit A in it. Most D3 supplements are made from lanolin (wool oil) (cholecalciferol), it... -

Exactly! Glad you mentioned affirmations, I love those. I say them in my head a lot, but I keep saying I'm going to post them up on the wall. I am going to do that today! Affirmations are very powerful and the more you say them, the more they stick. I'm doing the same thing with avoiding using negative language. That works too! For example, Instead... -
ARCHIVED Is A Gi That Specializes In Celiac Necessary If Not Seeking Diagnosis?

Awwww, I'm glad I could help. My life feels to me like a big juggling act, between what to eat, which supplements to take, researching to answer my questions, just knowing what the heck to do next, and trying to have the energy to prioritize. I wish there was someone I could go to (a Dr) who could help, but there just isn't, not yet anyway. Then I...
