ARCHIVED Trouble With Rum
FruitEnthusiast replied to CajunChic's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
The flavored, sweetened liqueurs seem to be the ones that give people the worst problems. It was Bailey's that made me so sick that last time. I would avoid tequila too, that's the other one that's been really harsh in my experience.- 15 replies

ARCHIVED Trouble With Rum
FruitEnthusiast replied to CajunChic's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I have ALWAYS been sensitive to alcohol, just FYI, so I think I was destined to be a non-drinker. It's possible that others who have had such a reaction had a lot more to drink than I did, I'm not sure. I know some people just don't do well with alcohol, and I've always been in that category.- 15 replies

ARCHIVED Colonic For Severe Constipation
FruitEnthusiast posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I wanted to share my positive experience getting a colonic a couple days ago. I get them periodically and they always help me tremendously. I have tended toward C for several years but I never had such problems until my food intolerances started... gluten was only the beginning for me. Now as I determine which foods are safe for me, I get severe C whenever... -

ARCHIVED Super Cranky, Terrible Day. Thinking Of Hunger Striking
FruitEnthusiast replied to user001's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Excellent news about the ulcer improving! That must be a load off your mind. Really glad to hear that! I had an endoscopy once and had the same experience. When I woke up I didn't realize it had already happened. I wanted to keep sleeping in the recovery room I guess and they had to make me leave after a 1/2 hour, I wasn't happy to have to get up and... -
ARCHIVED What Did I Eat?!?
FruitEnthusiast replied to Georgia-guy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yep it happens to all of us eventually... our bodies revolt against the eating of crap... it's sad but you'll adjust, and you'll appreciate the little treats you'll get to have even more. I still miss the good old days when I could eat anything, but it's not fun anymore when the price is so high. I still have my memories, but it is sometimes hard to admit... -
ARCHIVED Trouble With Rum
FruitEnthusiast replied to CajunChic's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I used to say I didn't tolerate alcohol very well, my stomach didn't like it, etc. It got worse as I got older, had a couple killer all day hangovers... so I rarely drank... then I went to a New Years Eve Party a few years back (I usually stay home NYE), but that year there was a good party so i went... and had a few drinks over a few hours, wasn't ever drunk...- 15 replies

ARCHIVED It Was Supposed To Be Over At Gluten Free! Help :(
FruitEnthusiast replied to AnnaChristine18's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You might try posting a new topic that says specifically what you want to know about SIBO.Like taking probiotics while taking antibiotics - or how long it takes for it to go away. Maybe post it in this same category as your original thread (recovery and treatments). Some categories get more attention than others. I don't think I would agree with the keep...- 88 replies

ARCHIVED Super Cranky, Terrible Day. Thinking Of Hunger Striking
FruitEnthusiast replied to user001's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know... the bad days are soooo BAD... and so long. It make me question my entire plan. Am I eating the right things, is there something I'm not doing? I want to outsmart the process somehow but I think it's really out of my control. I can't possibly do more than I'm already doing. I wish I could take a day off from all of it, eating, water, supplements... -
ARCHIVED Super Cranky, Terrible Day. Thinking Of Hunger Striking
FruitEnthusiast replied to user001's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jamie, so sorry to hear that We're all in this together. I'm also having a bad day and discouraged... yesterday was a great day. It changes so fast and it's hardest having a bad day after a good one. It's like a wave we ride as it goes up and down. When it's down, it feels like it won't go up again... but it always does! I'm trying to remember that... -
ARCHIVED Anyone With Ncgs & Ibs-C? How Are You Coping?
FruitEnthusiast replied to spirit22's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Ah ha... good to know, thanks. I think it's interesting that in all the years I've had C, no doctors have ever discussed the importance of not just getting enough fiber, but the right kind, or the right balance of soluble and insoluble. All I've ever heard is get enough fiber! It's not that simple, I'm so glad to know that now. Until recently I didn't even...- 16 replies

ARCHIVED Super Cranky, Terrible Day. Thinking Of Hunger Striking
FruitEnthusiast replied to user001's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, there are some days that are so challenging, all I can do is be alive and get through the day, especially when the symptoms are psychological and get a grip on me. I do have days when no matter what I do anxiety plagues me and no matter how much I tell myself it's a symptom of my illness, it still feels just as real. Some days I feel like I am actually... -
ARCHIVED Sibo-What To Do Now?
FruitEnthusiast replied to AnnaChristine18's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
It sounds like your Doc gave you the right combo of meds for it. It's good that you want to make the most of them by eating the right foods too. The Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) is designed to limit sugars and carbs so the bacteria have less to feed on, and also to reduce inflammation. Here are a couple links about the diet and the suggested foods list...- 9 replies

ARCHIVED Super Cranky, Terrible Day. Thinking Of Hunger Striking
FruitEnthusiast replied to user001's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I know it's hard but try not to start thinking and worrying too much. It's easy to do, I've done it many times myself, but it doesn't help. It just takes time to heal, and the process is extremely frustrating. Reducing stress as much as you can will help your stomach as much as anything right now. I really believe that the mind has great power over the... -
ARCHIVED Super Cranky, Terrible Day. Thinking Of Hunger Striking
FruitEnthusiast replied to user001's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Definitely can relate! At times I wish I could do away with eating all together. Sorry to say a lot of people have to give dairy a break a least while they're still healing. I've given it up permanently since I used to have stomach sensitivity. It was one of my favorite things though and I'm amazed that I don't even miss it. If you can have gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED It Was Supposed To Be Over At Gluten Free! Help :(
FruitEnthusiast replied to AnnaChristine18's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thanks so much for sharing this AnnaChristine, it's great news to hear!! I've heard from people that they have taken two kinds of antibiotics together at the same time to treat SIBO. I would have to look up the names to remember them. What did your your doc give you? I know there are others on here who have been treated for that and they could share more...- 88 replies

ARCHIVED Sugar Causing Symptoms?
FruitEnthusiast replied to spirit-walk's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I don't know if everyone with Celiac has intestinal permeability, it's not the same thing as flattened villi. Starches (carbs) and sugar are similar. They cause inflammation and are what the bad gut bacteria feed on. Removing them helps restore the balance of good bacteria in the gut and reduces inflammation and that helps intestinal permeability heal... -
ARCHIVED Anyone With Ncgs & Ibs-C? How Are You Coping?
FruitEnthusiast replied to spirit22's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
C is my problem too. Make sure you get enough insoluble fiber and not too much soluble fiber, big difference. I follow the drink half your weight in oz philosophy for water. I would stay away from processed foods, especially potato chips - too hard to digest. Everyone's different, but they gave me a big problem when I tried them, of course I ate way too...- 16 replies

ARCHIVED Sugar Causing Symptoms?
FruitEnthusiast replied to spirit-walk's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
If you have gut inflammation or leaky gut, sugars, starches, or carbs can cause symptoms. The gut and brain are very closely connected. That's why we get brain fog from something our gut doesn't like. Are you familiar with the SCD diet? There's a lot of information on their site about this stuff and food recommendations. Even if you're not on the diet, it... -
ARCHIVED Mildest Tasting Honey?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Definitely organic, yes. Processed in their personal kitchen seems like a bad idea, the possibility of cc, is that what you mean? I'm going to look for something as local as possible but from a health food store where I can find a brand that says gluten-free on the label. I don't think I could trust anything "homemade" by anyone but me. -
ARCHIVED Chronic Constipation
FruitEnthusiast replied to BeckyW's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I already discovered something very interesting... I omitted all high protein foods from my diet today and the gas (can I call it "G"?) has completely gone away. It had been plaguing me for the past week plus after eating the wrong food had caused my C to come back. Actually "G" is an important component with C, for me at least. I get "airlock" or that's... -
ARCHIVED Did Your Vitamin D Levels Go Up?
FruitEnthusiast replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hmmm... sunscreen blocks out the rays that provide vit D. I'm fair so I'm going to use sunscreen and take a D supplement. I've had family with minor skin cancer, but it was easy to remove and not serious. Still I have to be careful. Does anyone else ever feel like they weren't made to survive on this planet? -
ARCHIVED Mildest Tasting Honey?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ahhh... clover honey. Thank you! I will definitely get a good brand with no additives... and local too, yes, good reminder. Sometimes it's hard remembering all the things we have to think about! It is very scary what our "so called" food supply has become. One of my goals is to grow as many things myself as I can... within the small outdoor space... -
ARCHIVED Mildest Tasting Honey?
FruitEnthusiast posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm looking for honey with the mildest "honey" taste. I'm following the SCD diet, and honey is the only natural sweetener allowed. I don't really like the taste of honey, and wondered if anyone could recommend a mild tasting type? -
ARCHIVED Chronic Constipation
FruitEnthusiast replied to BeckyW's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have different doctors suggesting different things and I'm not sure what to make of it. My GI says plain soft, low fiber foods help a distressed gut and my ND says protein and fiber help motility to function. I'd be so interested to know what others experience has been with this. I was doing really well, had found the right balance of soluble and...
