ARCHIVED Gluten Free Apple Juice
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ocean Spray CranRaspberry used to be mine... and it comes in single serving size bottles. I just added that to my list of things I take for myself to eat at a party (of course I'll have to test it out at home first to be on the safe side) -
ARCHIVED Reception Dinner Etiquette
FruitEnthusiast replied to Songbirdy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think we are lucky to be having gluten issues at this point in history. So many gluten free products now, but also it's become so prevalent, the majority of people are aware of it already. Or if not, they are aware of sensitivities/allergies more in general these days. Odds are, you won't be the only gluten intolerant at the wedding! Maybe you'll meet!... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Support Groups In Southern Ca?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I agree. I thought I would find lots of options anywhere in CA. I thought Santa Monica in particular would be one of the likely locations for a gluten free support group. I'm from both southern and central CA. I've always related more to central or northern CA mindsets. Sometimes it seems people in the LA area are too busy being happy to stop and think about... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Apple Juice
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks! I assumed juice wouldn't be a gluten problem, but I wondered about cross contamination factors in the manufacturing facility. -
ARCHIVED Liver Cleansing/detoxing
FruitEnthusiast posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I just learned how important it is to detoxify my liver while I'm trying to detox from gluten, and how new sensitivities can crop up when my liver becomes overloaded with a food. It seems obvious but I hadn't thought of it. Detoxifying needs to happen in our livers as well as our intestines. It's not all about leaky gut when it comes to sensitivities. Does... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Apple Juice
FruitEnthusiast posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know of a good reasonably priced gluten free apple juice. I like the clear, filtered kind, and the ones made from fresh apples, not concentrate. Martinelli's is a great example, but pricey. Any more reasonable brands out there that taste great? -
ARCHIVED The Gluten Toaster Oven Of Doom
FruitEnthusiast replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Look, for when you can afford it eventually, a new toaster oven for $20, no shop vac needed ...something to maybe look forward to if you decide to go that route at some point. Open Original Shared Link -
I hope you're doing a lot better now. That swelling sounds severe and dangerous. If you go to the emergency room, they will treat you whether you have insurance or not. You can figure the money part out later, after they've saved your life! If you're not significantly better, you may need an IV. Better safe than sorry. Don't be hard on yourself, just take...

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Support Groups In Southern Ca?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks for the info. I'm hoping to say closer to the coast, but I may try those if nothing else turns up. Good to know. -
ARCHIVED Reception Dinner Etiquette
FruitEnthusiast replied to Songbirdy's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I say bring your own food to the wedding, and when the meal comes, a hungry guy will gladly eat it for you, in addition to his own meal I am gluten intolerant, and my blood test came back negative, but I'm still feeling sick after four months eating gluten free. If you know gluten makes you sick, then eating gluten free to get well is just as important... -

ARCHIVED Phew! Some Relief
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Today was the second good day... yay! I have kept a food journal in the past, but lately I can eat so few things I eat exactly the same thing each day, so I don't bother to write it down. Today it was suggested to me that I vary my diet a lot more within the scope of what I am able to eat, and work more vegetables into each day - especially green... -
ARCHIVED Tongue Hurts! Possible Allergy?
FruitEnthusiast replied to mamacat's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Interesting. I've had geographic tongue for decades. It comes and goes but I don't know of anything that helps it heal faster. I read it's related to immunity issues. I've had food problems for about as long too. Low blood sugar issues, other food sensitivities, or so I thought. Sure makes me wonder when I first started having gluten problems, since I've... -
Wow. I feel better after being really sick with symptoms for a week. Headaches, nausea, body aches, joint pain, fatigue, difficulty thinking clearly, anxiety. For me the symptoms sometimes seem to disappear so suddenly, I'm sort dumbfounded when I feel better. It's like I've been under water, and I've come up for air. I've been sick so much the past few months...

ARCHIVED Ugh ... This Time It Was Milk That Got Me
FruitEnthusiast replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi! Have you ever tried coconut milk? I think it's really delicious, and it's opaque white so it really looks like milk. The taste is very mild, and doesn't taste like coconut at all. My favorite brand is "So Delicious" (original flavor). Makes great smoothies too. It probably works great in recipes too, but I haven't had a chance to try that yet. -
Hmmm... perhaps... but it's soooo worth it!

Hi, I'm a redhead too! I've also heard celiac is prevalent among redheads. Though I'm gluten intolerant and tested negative for celiac, my GI said to be extra careful "cause I'm a redhead. I've heard that redheads have one less layer of epidermis on the outer most layer of their skin and also on the inner most layer internally too. Food for thought.

ARCHIVED Withdrawl Y Or N
FruitEnthusiast replied to DawnMarie127's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It's usual to feel worse during withdrawal from anything as the toxins leaving your body cause symptoms. The toxins get stirred up in the process. A detox bath in Epsom salts could help and drinking lots of water, of course. Hope that helps. Hope you feel better -
ARCHIVED The Gluten Toaster Oven Of Doom
FruitEnthusiast replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
The toaster oven is 10 years old, huh? If it were me, I wouldn't use it. Gluten = glue is what I've heard. I've read that some sensitive people get a reaction from sitting in a bakery without eating a thing. Maybe a gluten free toaster oven just for your son's food? I don't think an inexpensive one costs that much, or what about a "new unused still in the... -
ARCHIVED New Reactions, Afraid To Eat, Can Anyone Relate?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thanks so much much for the GAPS diet info. I was not aware of it and I'm looking at it today. Bone broth info too. I'm wondering if strained homemade chicken broth retains any protein. I'll look that up too. I did great on the 30 day raw food diet, fresh fruit til noon, fresh raw veggies after that, two avocados a day, olive oil, lemon juice, coconut... -
ARCHIVED New Reactions, Afraid To Eat, Can Anyone Relate?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
As far as I know chicken is harder to digest than fish. When I tried chicken, it felt heavy in my body and I didn't feel well afterward. Before my diagnosis I ate it almost every day. It makes sense to me when I think about how much chewing it takes for each one. No comparison there. I was considering tuna to be gateway to chicken, in a sense, not for permanent... -
ARCHIVED New Reactions, Afraid To Eat, Can Anyone Relate?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm very particular about what I will eat too. The only tuna I ate was Wild Planet Wild Skipjack Tuna, 100% pole and troll caught, low mercury, high omega 3. My ND wanted me to eat a can a day. I think that was a mistake to try so much so fast considering everything else. I try to buy organic, but if I don't find it in a store, I buy non-organic. I want... -
ARCHIVED New Reactions, Afraid To Eat, Can Anyone Relate?
FruitEnthusiast replied to FruitEnthusiast's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you so much everyone for your support and insightful comments! It makes me feel so much better to know I'm not alone Non gluten intolerant people are concerned for me, but they don't really "get it ". They are especially puzzled by the way it seems to never end. I read a lot online, so I know it takes a long time for the intestinal lining to heal,... -
ARCHIVED New Reactions, Afraid To Eat, Can Anyone Relate?
FruitEnthusiast posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, I'm Sara, new to this forum. I feel really scared and overwhelmed at this point. I could use some encouraging words from someone who understands. This is the third day I've been home sick from work, from new reactions to foods I was tolerating fine last week. I'm actually afraid to eat anything at all now. I only eat whole foods I prepare myself, and... -
Try looking for a green symbol that's a circle with gluten-free inside on the back of products. Those products are supposed to be certified gluten free. Other things that say they are gluten free, may or may not be, as I have also found out the hard way. Some manufacturing facilities are certified gluten free, even better. Health food stores are best for...
