ARCHIVED gluten-free, Df, And Everything Else-f..ruining My Life
Rachel--24 replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jason, I've read many of your posts and can definately relate to all that you're feeling. I've had all of the same worries, fears and frustrations with having so many food intolerances. For me its not possible to travel, or bring my own food to a gathering or pack something for an all day event. My intolerances are just too extensive and I have... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Disease Vs. Gluten Sensitivity
Rachel--24 replied to happygirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I think there's alot of truth in this. Personally, I feel very strongly that Celiac and gluten sensitivity are two seperate conditions. I think this would explain why so many do not test positive for Celiac...even though symptoms may seem similar and even though there is a positive response to the diet. I think we (those who do not have Celiac... -

KFC.....yummy!! I wonder if I'll ever eat it again. I'm glad you were a good girl...sticking to your fruit sald. Way too much junk in KFC....I think my body might do better with a Big Mac. Or maybe I'm just trying to convince myself that Big Macs arent so bad. I'm glad you felt good and enjoyed your day. Really...they... -

Sherry, I'm gonna try to see if I can find any info. on that but I dont think there's really been alot of research or studies on this. It makes alot of sense to me though. It seems like when certain enzymes are inhibited by certain things...or when the body is dealing with an overwhelming amount of substances because of impaired detoxification...then... -

Pink fleece jackets...OMG....I would be RUNNING away. You'd think all girls should just LOVE pink...but not this one. I'm getting used to it...but I still havent bought anything pink....other than the shirts for breast cancer. I think its baby steps with me and pink. I like pink on OTHER people....just not so much on me. So yeah...we... -
I havent had any problems with getting Armour. Just got a refill last week (90 mg. = 1.5 grains).

Yeah.....amines cause me big probems and I'm super sensitive to them. I avoid all of the major offenders but I occassionally will react to the grass fed beef if its not fresh enough. I usually have to eat it within a day or two.....and I usually do better with it if I buy it when its first been ground (early in the morning) rather than if its been sitting... -

Carla, I read something that I thought was kind of interesting. I'm not really sure how valid it is....and I havent tried to look into it any furthur yet. Anyways, it was having to do with cytokines. I've talked alot about the DPPIV enzyme that breaks down gluten and casein...but the enzyme has other functions as well. Apparantly it also breaks down... -

Yup...I think you're right. I need more water. Its only rarely that I notice I'm having to use the restroom more frequently...so maybe those are the only times my body is getting enough water. I think since this is the Celiac board and since "accidents" are frequently discussed (well probably more in the kids section )....I think its safe to... -
ARCHIVED Pepto Bismol?

Thanks, thats good to know. She's going to see the Dr. in the morning....hopefully the diarrhea will stop soon. -
ARCHIVED Pepto Bismol?
Rachel--24 replied to Rachel--24's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks.....I'm gonna tell her to look for the chewables. I looked it up online and the chewables have a different active ingredient....its safe for ages 2 and up. The main ingredient in the regular Pepto is linked to Reye's syndrome (in kids)....so I guess thats why the bottle only has instructions for ages 12 and up. Thanks again. -

Glad you're noticing improvement. Detoxing is definately a slow process....I think its a good sign that the rash is clearing up. -

I'm the same way....I get busy with things and I just forget to drink my water. Plus, I'm hardly ever feeling thirsty. On the days that I'm drinking more water I dont actually notice myself urinating more frequently....so then I wonder if I'm actually flushing anything out? Maybe I'm needing ALOT more water than what I'm actually drinking??... -

haha...I guess we dont have this in common! I think I was afraid of pink. I dont have anything pink, didnt wear anything pink.....I think I would have considered pink to be my least favorite color. Last year I was not too excited about wearing pink....even if for a good cause. Pink just kind of seemed all wrong for me. I'm kind of "tomboyish... -
Hi, My friends 10 yr. old daughter has had diarrhea for a few days now.....over 8 times already today. Is it ok for a 10 yr. old to take Pepto Bismol? The bottle provides dosage info. only for 12 and up. If Pepto Bismol isn't ok....is there something else she can take (or eat) to help with the constant diarreah?

October is Breast Cancer awareness month. That means that I'll be wearing PINK all month....to support the cause. I cant believe that its been a whole year since I was wearing pink!! That was when my days seemed to really become brighter. I started really living again. So this past year has been the best I've had since I became sick..... -

Drinking enough water has always been difficult for me....just reading your post right now made me realize that I havent yet drank ANY water today! This is something that probably has an affect on how I feel each day. I bet if I kept track....I would notice that the more water I drink....the better I feel. Do you think this could contribute to cramps... -
ARCHIVED Casein Intolerance Linked To Gluten Intolerance
Rachel--24 replied to moldlady's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Just as there is a specific enzyme involved in the breakdown and digestion of lactose...there is also an enzyme involved in the breakdown and digestion of both gluten and casein. The enzyme is dipeptidyl peptidase-IV (DPPIV). If this enzyme is deficient or inhibited.....it can result in an intolerance to both of these foods. This type of reaction wouldnt... -

Hmmm....this actually sounds better. Last time I was at Whole Foods I didnt ask for help....this time I'll ask someone. Theres a couple other really big supplement/health stores right next to whole foods....so between the 3 places I should be able to find it. Yeah....thats what I had read as well. Scott talked about that alot too. I think its... -

Yeah.....she's been really extra FUNNY these days. Yeah....I should know in a few months if he's a keeper or not. It was a good sign that he was really excited about figuring this out. He had all of my test results and a map of the methylation cycle spread across his desk. He was kind of "pumped up" toward the end of the appt. He clenched... -

Lisa.....yeah....and then she couldnt WAIT for me ask what happened to the towel. She was really proud of herself I think. There is NO MORE "decoration" towel. I guess when I was little it was enough to just say "dont touch".....now that I'm an adult she actually has to take it away from me. See.....I'm just "backwards" in every... -

I never heard of using soap until now. Where was this info. when I was needing it. Does it only work for cramps?? I dont get those anymore. I think my mom might freak out if I put a bar of soap under the covers while I'm at her house. Oh...there is no more "DECORATION" towel on the sink in the bathroom. Its GONE. My mom said she read my...
