  1. Magnesium stearate is an immune suppressant......which is never a good thing. If you're in good health and taking a couple supplements which contain magnesium stearate.....it probably isnt a big deal. However, if you already have an immune system which is struggling and you already have health problems a little bit of toxin several times a day probably...
  2. Yeah....and when my mom was talking about "Carla's mattress".....I was soooooo confused!! I thought she was referring to something on Oprah (which she was watching) and I was thinking SHE was crazy for expecting me to have any clue as to what she was talking about. It never occured to me that she was talking about "Carla from the OMG thread...
  3. Alot of the times that you were away from your house you were doing better.....at least it seemed that way to me. I always wondered if mold might be an issue for you but I never imagined you were sleeping on it! I just thought it was around your home because I thought you'd mentioned mold in the bathroom (or was it the kitchen?) before. I think...
  4. Dried fruit is high in mold content. If you're sensitive to moldy foods you may get these types of symptoms with the dried fruit.....and yet be fine with the regular fresh fruit.
  5. Paula, you just reminded me that this was what I had wanted to respond to.....your post about Scott's newsletter. Yes, I read it. Most of it I was already aware of (from emails) but I always look forward to the newsletters and find them to be informative and interesting. I thought about you with regards to the mold situation. YES....I do think...
  6. Carla....OMG about the MOLD!! I totally wouldnt be surprised if thats the whole reason the Lyme became such an issue. I think mold is involved in so many illnesses....and ususally we just arent aware of it at all. Same situation with Scott. I hadnt read the thread....came home from work, changed clothes and was on my way out the front...
  7. Yeah...I've known about the sulfite problem for a long time now and molybdenum is the cofactor for the sulfite oxidase enzyme (as well as two other important enzymes). Copper is an antagonist for molybdenum....so too much copper can cause molybdenum deficiency. I have elevated copper as well. I've supplemented molybdenum but never felt any different...
  8. I havent started any treatment yet because I've had additional testing (awaiting results) and have an appt. to see another Dr. before we start anything. I've already had alot of testing done but this is a new doctor that I'm seeing and he wants to be sure nothing is overlooked. Yes, he wants to start treatment to open up the pathway but right now we dont...
  9. Yes, I have major problems with sulfites (pretty much all processed foods), all high sulfur foods as well as any supplements containing cysteine, glutathione or anything else high in sulfur. I have a major block. You might have the same problem but reactions depend on how impaired the enzyme is. I wouldnt be able to tolerate even a small amount of wine...
  10. Seems like you're talking about two different types of "allergy" testing here. True allergies are IgE mediated and this is what the "REAL" allergist would be testing. You may have NO true allergies (IgE) and yet still be "sensitive" to all kinds of foods....as well as other triggers. I have ZERO true allergies......which means that my skin-prick tests...
  11. I wanted to comment on this since my experience with garlic was very similar to yours. I never ate alot of garlic prior to my illness....however, when I was following the anti-candida diet/antifungal treatments I started using quite a bit of garlic (fresh organic stuff)....as well as Kyolic brand garlic extract. I had very bad symptoms which I attributed...
  12. Its unlikely that she would have Celiac without having the genes and with all tests coming back negative....however, this does not mean that she doesnt have a problem with gluten. She may definately have an intolerance to gluten, or dairy, or soy...they can also be attributed to her possibly having a parasite problem. Parasites do cause gut inflammation...
  13. I've been dealing with candida/fungal issues since I got sick (6 years ago). I still had issues when I was following the strictest of anti-candida diets (no sugar, no carbs, no starches, etc.) I was basically eating only organic meats, fish and a few organic veggies. This was over 3 years ago and I followed the diet for 4 months. I did NOT eat fruit...
  14. Carla my friend has been in Germany about 3 months now and still doesnt know any German. Just some basic words....like "thank you" and "please". Suppossedly its alot different from English and harder to learn than spanish. I'm pretty sure that I wont learn ANY German before, during or after my trip. I think my friend needs to at least...
  15. Hopefully they'll listen and make some changes. They are definately aware of the problem. On the side of the container it says "protect willdlife" "crush this container". They just really need to design a safer container. Its not difficult to crush the container but how many people really read the side of the container....and how many people would take...
  16. Thanks Donna.....I guess it was pretty mild (in comparison to previous vents ). That was coming at the tail-end of my "venting session". It started the other night when I was crying about it (yes REAL tears!). My mom was kind of surprised because she hasnt seen me crying over any of this in such a long time. It just kind of came out of nowhere...
  17. Yeah Paula....it feels like a lifetime!!! I thought life was supossed to be less busy once all the kids are back in school??
  18. Thanks Lisa. Awwww...I'm sorry things have gotten worse for you at your grandma's. If there's mold its definately gonna be putting stress on your system. What is the swamp cooler? Good luck with choir on Sunday!! You'll do GREAT. I'm glad you joined....I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
  19. You do need to have a good idea as to where there are weaknesses in the pathway in order to know how to proceed with supplementation. We do have a pretty good idea about one enzyme...but we will have more answers with the last test I did. So we're pretty certain that there's a problem with CBS. I think treatment also depends on what...
  20. Just popping in to say hi. Not much to add right now.....but I've been reading along. I've been busy mostly focusing on learning/understanding the methylation cycle. I made some big dietary changes since I have a much better understanding now of why the reactions are occuring. Other than that....nothing new.....just waiting for my appt...
  21. It certainly cant hurt to try the gluten-free diet with her. To me it looks like her symptoms are primarily caused by parasites. Kudos to your Dr. for even thinking of it (most do not). My understanding is that Alinia wont kill off the eggs and so the cycle needs to be repeated several times. My Dr.'s were wanting me on Alinia every 3 weeks during the...
  22. I gotta also disagree with this. Its just not true.....people DO overcome fungal infections. It depends on the condition of the body....the state of the immune system. If things arent functioning as they should....then yes...these infections will stick around forever. However, the body is amazing in its ability to heal itself and if given that opportunity...
  23. I dont think anyone has been skeptical regarding the role that pathogens play in chronic illness. They are major players for sure. A cause for all cases of Celiac as well as all autoimmune disease in general....I dont know if I'd go that far. I do think that they play a role....however, I dont believe they work alone. We are seeing more autoimmune...
  24. I'm not saying that they dont cause major problems.....I'm saying that they usually arent the *only* factor involved. Chronic disease is multifactorial. If a person is suffering from chronic candidiasis.....there are other factors involved. When the immune system becomes so overwhelmed that opportunistic pathogens are allowed to survive and thrive......
  25. Celiac is a legitimate condition. Its an autoimmune disease that can be triggered in those who are genetically susceptible. The only treatment is a life long gluten-free diet. Of course some people with Celiac can also have dysbiosis, they can also have Lyme disease....or a viral infection...or heavy metal toxicity....or a compromised immune system due...
