  1. Floridian thanks for that explanation!! Thats so awesome. I knew about the white rice being enriched (there are some that arent though) and dusted with cornstarch but I didnt know how the whole process worked. I love to know the "hows and whys" of everything...Its just in me to want to know all this stuff. Now I learned something new! I dont eat...
  2. Julie, Those foods would have kicked my butt too! I know about the Enjoy Life Cereal because I've had it before....also Pamelas cookies. I cant eat those. I would probably do even worse with the crackers and cheese fries from looking at the ingredients. If I ate ONE of those things yesterday I'd be so messed up right now. I dont even wanna know what would...
  3. Jersey, I miss OJ....I havent had it in over a year. I havent had *any* juice in that long. I just made buckwheat pancakes for lunch....they were REALLY good....I think I like buckwheat. Also no white tongue or bumps....hopefully thats a good sign. I dont know alot about buckwheat but I know its not a grain so we'll see.
  4. CC = Cross Contamination
  5. Yes they are different compounds that are put into a product to work in conjunction with MSG.
  6. There was alot about orange juice that I read on the corn forum and I think on the msg board too. What kind was it? If it has added vitamins which most do then I think its bad. Anything fortified or vitamin enriched is bad on both diets. I think I remember reading that "simply orange juice" was ok and didnt have anything added. Thats my dept. at work so I...
  7. I've been tested for IgE allergies and I dont have any. I've also been tested for IgG intolerances and dont have any of those either. If its a reaction to MSG though there is no way to test it....it wouldnt be an allergy. Technically you cant be "allergic" to it because its a neurotoxin. After all the IgE tests came back normal another doctor ordered the...
  8. Puffy ass I could use some puffiness in my ass...I'd definately rather have it there than in my face. Where did you get gluten-free cheese fries? Since it seems like I'm reacting to the natural glutamates right now I'm avoiding all the stuff thats listed as being high. I posted a small list 1 or 2 pages back. It lists all meats as having significant...
  9. Miamia....yes, that happens to me. Before I got careful with my diet the roof of my mouth felt scratched and rough alot of the time. Now it really only gets like that on the insides of my cheeks, lips and a little on my tongue. Thats where I get the little blisters too. The area under my tongue gets pretty tore up sometimes too but not in a long while.
  10. Oh..the first recation I ever had with the fuzzy white tongue thing occurring right before my eyes was last summer while I was on the candida diet. After a couple months of only meats and veggies I tried a snack thats suppossed to be candida safe. All it consisted of was flaxmeal, unsweetened cocoa powder and coconut milk. I had a major reaction that kept...
  11. Ok...about 8 months ago I had an episode that scared the crap out of me. I was trying to avoid casein so I bought ghee and was trying it out. I didnt feel right after using it but didnt think too much about it. I bought some gluten-free bread and made some toast and put the ghee on it. It was my first time using the bread and the second time using the ghee...
  12. Calicat, If the sugar came from beets it would be high in glutamates. From what I read you'd want to steer clear of beet sugar and use cane sugar instead. When products dont specify and just put "sugar" you dont know where it came from. Heres a link to good and bad stuff. I think its a good guide but you have to see what works for you. I think...
  13. I like all the ones I tried...especially cherry pie.
  14. Noone payed any attention to my complaints the first 2 years of feeling sick because of the fact that I appeared to be healthy. I finally started losing weight and then finally got some concern....often if you look fine on the outside your complaints wont be recognized. If your wife got the attention she needed she's lucky. I always got sent out with a recommendation...
  15. Julie, yeah...pectin is in jelly which sucks because I love pb & J and now I cant have either. I do react to jelly but prior to this I had believed it was salicylates I was reacting to. Only 2 weeks ago before I read about msg I bought some strawberry jam that I found without citric acid (was concentrating on corn) but now I just stare at it longingly...
  16. I dont really use my player anymore...I plug in my iPod and its got about 1,000 songs on it. Love it....it was one of the best gifts I ever got! I mostly listen to spanish music but I've got a little of everything stored in my iPod. I listen to Daddy Yankee, Brad Paisely, Kelly Clarkson, Dido, Juanes, Rob Thomas, Usher, Paulina Rubio, Shakira, 3 Doors...
  17. These ingredients are "hidden names" for MSG...they both indicate that MSG is in the product so even though they have nothing to do with gluten....they are still "bad".
  18. When I first went seriously gluten-free I bought some horizon vanilla yogurt and as soon as I started eating it my tongue started burning and my throat felt weird. about 7 hours later I had a full-on recation of face muscles tightening up and blurred vision and all the rest. Its been about nine months since that happened and I had never found the cause until...
  19. I react to guar gum. Just found out recently that I'm highly sensitive to msg which is uaually in guar gum and also most medications. I cant tolerate it at all.
  20. Calicat, I didnt use a substitute for baking powder...I did throw some baking soda in but I know from something I read that it doesnt work as a replacement. I have arrowrrot powder but didnt use it. I just figured that the sweet rice flour would be sticky enough to hold it together. I think sweet rice flour is different from rice flour...it seems...
  21. Oh...I forgot 2 ingredients...Quinoa flakes and baking soda....pretty sure thats it.
  22. Julie, I just kind of threw stuff in a bowl and didnt measure anything. I have no idea how anything I make turns out any good....apparantly baking isnt that hard cuz if I can make cookies this way....anyone can. My Mom tried one and liked it. I'm not picky at all....so most stuff will taste good to me...especially now. If I dont get a reaction from these...
  23. Sorry but there is no dairy product that doesnt contain casein. Casein is the protein in all dairy. In order to avoid casein you would have to eliminate all dairy products including those with the "non-dairy" labels such as cool whip...they all contain casein. I agree with the previous posts though....many Celiacs cannot tolerate casein and it can cause...
  24. Miamia, Reading your post got me really angry. How dare someone say something like that to you! What is *wrong* with people anyways....I cant imagine ever approaching someone and saying something so thoughtless and rude! It boggles my mind. I would be so angry if that had happened to me but also I would be so hurt inside I know I would cry and the words...
  25. Here's a list of foods high in glutamate that I got from DogtorJ....I always like to read his stuff and he's got so much good info on gluten, dairy, soy and corn and also glutamate and aspartate. I have problems with seeds that I could never figure out...also all nuts...especially peanuts. I cant eat any nut butters. When I'm really bad even meat...
