  1. Julie, I havent seen anything bad about herbs. If you're super sensitive to MSG I dont think you're suppossed to do beans at first...if you're trying to detox. I just read something about beans but now I cant remember what it said. Something about free glutamate being created during the cooking process. I think thats what happens with anything containing...
  2. Are you talking about whole kernal corn? If thats what you're referring to...its normal. Its not easily digested and you can see it in your stool. It happens to everyone.
  3. I never thought about it but that'll be me for sure! I was always the last one to finish my meal because I couldnt shut up long enough to eat. Now there will be no food to get in the way! Theres a positive. Feel sorry for my friends and family though.
  4. I was thinking the same exact thing when I started reading this thread. The Lipton and the cornstarch = lots of MSG. I wasnt gonna say anything about it cuz maybe I just have MSG on my brain or whatever but yeah...I wouldnt rule it out. All of a sudden it seems like people are coming out of the woodwork telling me how terrible they react to MSG....its kind...
  5. I'm with you on this one. I've pretty much sheltered myself so that I dont have to face all that. I havent put myself in that situation yet and am not looking forward to it. When I thought it was just gluten that was my problem it wasnt a big deal to me at all....I wasnt worried about having to eat gluten free or not having pizza or anything like that. Now...
  6. Calicat, When I told the doctor I was gaining up to 8 lbs of fluid and then losing it overnight he told me he found that hard to believe. I guess he was calling me a liar. Even though I was gaining all this fluid everyday...I was losing my *real* weight. I was getting to be just bones and water. At least now (no thanx to the doctors) I'm more meat...
  7. Julie....I read that too! I'm gonna order the book if it seems I'm on the right track. I usually jump in full force and 2 weeks later when I realize I havent found the answer yet...I've already spent a good amount of money on stuff. You'd think I'd learn by now. After reading some of the posts on that board I'm gonna go the caveman route cuz the people...
  8. Dani, Mango gave a good description. Basically I'm trying to eliminate MSG since I seem to be hypersensitive to it. Glutamate occurs naturally in some foods but its not the really harmful stuff. When they take glutamate from a natural source and process it its no longer the same....it becomes more like a powerful drug. I read a good comparison on another...
  9. Thanks Berneses...you're always very supportive...it does help. Jersey, Definately keep posting on how the caveman thing is going for you. Everytime I start to feel better I start adding new stuff and its the same old story. Now that I know about MSG I dont think I'll be adding anything processed for a long time. I really dont think I'm reacting...
  10. Thanks for your post. I dont know how I could possibly give anyone hope with my ongoing "saga" but I'm happy to hear it. I never could figure out the face swelling thing either. Its one of my worst symptoms and noone on the Thyroid board had this problem, noone on the candida board, noone on the Celiac board and on and on. I couldnt figure out...
  11. Caveman diet is basically to eat like the cave people did. You just basically eat fresh meat (nothing processed) veggies and fruit. Nothing processed at all. You just drink water. Cavemen didnt have processed stuff or Starbucks or foods preserved with chemicals. Have you ever done a diet like this? I did last summer when my doctor put me on an...
  12. I'm basically doing the "caveman" type diet to try and detox. I was eating like this for 4 months last year while I was doing the Candida diet but of course I was taking tons of supplements so wasnt really getting anywhere. I would keep trying new things because I thought I wouldnt get better w/out the supplements but I was reacting to all of them and then...
  13. I read the article..."The best mayonaise in the world beacause it has MSG" Yeah....thats its sole purpose. Anything with MSG is gonna taste good. They use low quality "cheap" ingredients in the food and load it up with MSG so it tastes good. From what I read MSG doesnt even have much of a taste to it but it affects the part of your brain that controls...
  14. Yeah...they generally dont put Monosodium Glutamate on the labeling....they wanna sell their product so they use innocent sounding ingredients. I've been looking into this and frankly even if its not whats making me sick (although I think it is) I'm appalled by the fact that its legal for them to do this. Apparantly if they dont actually add MSG by itself...
  15. I wouldnt eat anything that I wasnt sure was safe.
  16. It depends....alot of starch is safe. Tapioca starch, corn starch, potato starch...those are fine...they are gluten free. Modified food starch needs to looked into if it doesnt specify where its from....it could be wheat.
  17. Dani, I was just explaining how sick I used to be and what my symtoms were. I havent lost any weight and am actually still gaining a little...I'm only about 4 lbs. away from what I used to be before I got sick. I guess I've gained about 15 lbs. the past few weeks. I'm not so sure corn is my main problem now since I've gotten my typical reactions...
  18. Hey, I didnt even know there was one on Bascom! I thought the only one in the area was the one on Stevens Creek...thats where I go.
  19. Donna, just curious...where do you get the cascadian farms from? I've seen it at Whole Foods but is it in the regular grocery store too? We dont have it at my work (Safeway).
  20. Dani, I was wondering about that myself. Right now I'm not brave enough to try anything new. I think I remember reading on the corn forum that Cascadian Farms brand was safe but its hard to keep all my info. straight sometimes. Maybe take a look at the posts....I dont have much luck with the "search" option on that forum but it could just be me...that...
  21. I tried all of these things. Food combining, no carbs with protein, never drinking with meals, fruits always by themselves, digestive enzymes, small meals (easier for digestion), no hard to digest foods (i.e. red meat), etc. I've basically tried it all but I still get the same type reactions and I'm now realizing (because I've been doing strict elimination...
  22. I'm currently avoiding both natural glutamates as well as the food additives. From the information I've come accross alot of people have negative reactions to MSG. I dont consider the diet restrictive considering there were times I was down to eating only one or 2 things and still feeling sick because of supplements I was taking. My main concern is relief...
  23. Yes, thats the best way to be notified of a response to your post. Another way to check is to look in "view new posts" or "todays active posts" and if there is a red box next to your topic that means there are new "unread" posts.
  24. How funny that you should post about MSG. Now that I've eliminated gluten for one year, been dairy free for most of that time, soy and corn free recently...I still feel I'm missing something. The more things I've eliminated the more obvious symtoms become and for the past few days my focus has been on MSG and sulfites. Even without eating processed...
  25. There are 2 Candida forums that I know of. One is on CureZone...I think its candida forum #8 and the other is on the Yeast Connection website. Hope that helps
