  1. Thanks Carla. Now I have to think about this....hmmmm...do phenols have a negative charge?? Does anyone recall the brand of Zeolite that Lisa refers to?? I guess the next thing to find out is whats in it. Hopefully it doesnt have all those vegetable ingredients!! I would want to have Amy test it if I can find some. Bacteria and yeast produce...
  2. HOORAY for good days Paula!! I'm happy when you have good days too....it makes me smile. I enjoy reading about the fun stuff you do with the kids....and now you get to go buy yourself a bike! YAY! I'm sure the kids love it when you're feeling good too. Lisa, What can zeolite do about phenols?? Anything?? I need something to get rid...
  3. Sorry Ali....you can send a pm now.
  4. Shay, As far as diet changes go.....I would recommend it to anyone. Thats the reason I'm no longer on disability. Determining which foods were causing significant problems for me is the single most important thing I've done to improve my situation. Thats the reason I'm able to work full time, or go out and enjoy myself when I get the chance, or sit here...
  5. The thing is that most people who are diagnosed Celiac are diagnosed based on 'evidence' of the disease....meaning positive bloodwork or positive biopsy. The vast majority (somewhere around 97%) of those who have evidence of the disease....also have those genes (DQ2 or DQ8). So even with other genes possibly being involved....its still going to be rare...
  6. Shay, Its not like I dont understand any of this. If I hadnt been there myself....and if I hadnt gone through all of that myself....I'm sure I wouldnt be here today hoping to help others who are in the same situation. I was on an HMO....but after 3 years with no answers and doctor after doctor treating me like crap...I chose to leave that HMO. The disappointment...
  7. Ali, Here's the link... Open Original Shared Link I've included a few others as well (on the same topic of SIBO). This one is very informative. Open Original Shared Link This one has to do with testing, treatment, diet, etc. Open Original Shared Link This one goes over the most commonly used tests for diagnosing these types of issues. I HIGHLY...
  8. Have your gut tested for dysbiosis. Overgrowths of yeast and bacteria (also parasites) can cause these ongoing problems. There are some good tests available....however, mainstream Dr.'s dont usually do this type of testing. A couple good labs are Genova Diagnostics (Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis) and Great Plains (Organic Acid Test). Genova...
  9. RWG, The thing is....non celiac gluten intolerance can cause severe damage as well...take a look at Autism for example. Just because there is improvement while on the diet does not automatically indicate Celiac Disease. There are all of these other conditions which can damage the gut allowing for gluten to enter the bloodstream and cause problems. Its...
  10. If it were me and I wanted to be as certain as I could possibly be....I would go to another Dr. and request bloodwork and biopsy.....without mentioning that I do not carry either of the main genes. I never had any problems getting the tests I wanted.....however, I had to do my own research so that I could let the doctors know what to order....since...
  11. Personally, I would not recommend liver flushes. For some people they cause more harm than good. I'm not too much into self-diagnosing or guessing at which treatment might help (but you probably already knew that ). Ali, there are some good tests available for figuring out the gut issues. Just dont expect your regular doctor's to know anything...
  12. OK....here's more: As you can see.....even though hormonal imbalances are involved in certain conditions such as Endometriosis.....something still has to be causing that situation to occur. You wont find that out in your OB/GYN's office though. Western medicine does not look for these types of underlying causes...nor do they recognize...
  13. Susie, Yes, I'm aware that endometriosis is autoimmune. However, every autoimmune condition has a trigger. There is a strong belief (and much evidence supports this) that autoimmune conditions are triggered by bacteria, fungi, parasites, viruses, toxins, food proteins, etc. Leaky Gut is thought to be the "gateway" which allows these "foreign invaders...
  14. Refractory sprue means non-responsive to treatment...which would be the gluten free diet. Personally, I have never really believed in "refractory sprue"....our bodies are capable of healing. When we dont heal its because something is preventing it. If I were diagnosed with refractory sprue....without having Celiac genes....I would definately be looking...
  15. Generally people are not diagnosed based on genetic testing alone...they are diagnosed based on positive bloodwork and/or positive biopsy. Even if someone has DQ2 and/or DQ8.....this does not mean that they actually have Celiac Disease. The results of bloodwork and biopsy are important in making the diagnosis. Most doctors arent going to only order...
  16. Nancy, Chlorella is good if you can tolerate it.....alot of people cant. You'd also want to use a very pure brand of chlorella.....hopefully one which is not contaminated with mercury. If you cant tolerate sulfur...you probably wont do well with chlorella. I have never been able to take chlorella. Last time I tried it I threw up 3 times. I...
  17. I posted alot about histamine/folate/copper in the OMG thread.....but its been awhile so its not too fresh in my mind now. I do know that those who have high histamine levels need to avoid folate.....mainly because folate produces excess histamine.....worsening the condition. Folate should be avoided in supplements and sometimes the diet has to be modified...
  18. Chocolate can make the heart beat irregularly if you're sensitive. Alot of other foods can do the same thing. I think its more common to be reactive to chemicals found in foods (such as phenols) rather than the foods themselves. Chocolate contains vasoactive amines. Amines can accumulate the same way that salicylates do. If the body cannot detoxify them...
  19. I'm thinking more along the lines of dysbiosis for these types of problems. The problem with PST is very common in autistic children.....along with low sulfate, dysbiosis and leaky gut. I also have big problems with phenols (one of the most pronounced my Dr. has seen). PST/sulfation is impaired but we dont know the exact cause yet. I've done additional...
  20. Linda, There are some fairly recent threads which I've posted in regarding enzymes such as Glutenease and Peptizyde. I posted a list of different enzymes and what they work best for. Example...Peptizyde is great for non-celiacs (on or off the diet)...but not recommended for Celiacs as a "safety net" for cross-contamination. Glutenease....is...
  21. Have you heard of salicylate sensitivity?? If you cant process the ibuprofen and it is causing a worsening of symptoms....it is most likely due to an inability to process salicylates. This happens when the enzyme necessary in processing food chemicals (phenols/salicylates/amines) is not functioning as it should. The reactions to foods and...
  22. Tiredandsick.....there are a large number of factors that can cause or contribute to damage of the lining. Here are some of them. Antibiotics - because they lead to the overgrowth of abnormal flora in the gastrointestinal tract (bacteria, parasites, candida, fungi) Alcohol and caffeine - These irritate the gut wall. Foods and beverages contaminated...
  23. I'm not trying to do a sophisticated study based on the entire population of people who are gluten sensitive......obviously that is not possible. From what I've seen here (as well as other health related forums)....many people turn to Enterolab for a "diagnosis". After that a large percentage of those people wonder why all of their problems are not...
  24. Nora, I do believe that oxalates can cause damage to the gut.....basically anything which the body is not able to breakdown and eliminate can contribute to inflammation. When oxalates accumulate in the body they can cause much harm. I'm on a low oxalate diet and was just last week tested for several things....including oxalate in urine. Another...
  25. Typically its the other way around. Leaky Gut is thought to be the "gateway" for autoimmunity. Thyroid disease is linked to increased intestinal permeability....as are a long list of other conditions.
