  1. Hey Ken - I'm in grad school at Drexel! Do you ever visit Mr. Ritts in Philly? - Lauren
  2. Me, me! I'm 23 and pretty new to the forum as well. I was diagnosed almost 2 years ago with celiac disease but I've learned a lot from the people here I am a student also (grad student) and it is extremely difficult when friends want to go out for pizza and I'm stuck snacking on a protein bar that I brought along. I hate drawing attention to it as well...
  3. Hey swittenauer, Check out my thread title "Ruby Tuesday" in this forum. I asked the same question. Personally, I feel safter being able to see what I am putting on my salad (and feel that I'm reducing the risk of x-contamination) but others brought up some really good points that made me question that. Nevertheless, if I go out to eat, I...
  4. What a positive way to look at it, thanks terri!
  5. Thanks for replying, you guys are great. I'm tired of bringing a protein bar and watching other people eat the good stuff at restaurants! And it's even worse to eat before and sit there, having others think that I just don't eat, period! (and at 5'7" and about 100 lbs, they assume things...) Outback and Austin Grill are 2 places that have published...
  6. Siiiighhh Thanks for the responses. Now this question is totally innocent and not meant to offend... but what do you guys do, never go out to eat? What do you do when friends want to meet out for dinner? Business luncheons? Vacations? I too feel much more comfortable preparing my own food at my own home, but sometimes eating away from home is inevitable...
  7. Hi, I'm fairly new so forgive me if this is a repeat. I've been pretty lucky eating at my local Ruby Tuesday from the salad bar. I was just wondering if others eat there, and if so, what do you get? Also, I've had some Celiacs tell me that they would never eat at a salad bar or any other place where you serve yourself b/c of the risk of cross-contamination...
  8. Interesting and while I haven't experienced the same exact phenomenon, I do swear that around the time I went gluten-free, my hair got curly! Everyone laughs at me when I say that, but I really think there is a correlation! - Lauren
  9. Oh boy can I relate! Boost/Ensure have become a necessary evil for me. I've grown SO sick of them, but I need the extra calories, and plus, being a vegetarian, they give me some much needed protein. I do have to recommend the Boost pudding though - they aren't half bad. I've never seen them in a store, but you can order them from Walgreens catalog and...
  10. Yeah, let's do something! Let me know if you all make any plans, thanks! - Lauren
  11. Worst: (1) Ener-G Tapioca Bread - just plain non-edible (2) Hol Grain Rice Crackers - looks and tastes like corrugated cardboard (3) Notta Pasta - slimy Favorites: (1) Amy's gluten-free meals - they are all so good, esp. the lasagna and the mexican meals! (2) Hol Grain brownies - the company redeemed themselves when I tried these! ...
  12. Hey! I'm from Gettysburg, PA - work in Howard County (drive through Frederick!) and would love to join your group. Have you been to the Gettysburg Celiac Support Group meetings? They are great, and we get plenty of people from MD too. The support group has really grow since I joined almost 2 years ago and we get lots of samples from gluten-free vendors as...
  13. Wendy, It is really funny that I found this website and these posts after my vacation, but I do feel lucky for To Life. The owners were incredibly nice, and they had waffles the one morning I was there too! I'm a coffee-a-holic, but I usually stick with plain, black coffee, but at To Life I got a mocha latte with no fear! The owners said they had only...

    ARCHIVED To Life

I agree! Just got back from Bethany and I loved To Life! The owners are so nice, and very passionate about what they're doing. I also ate at The Big Easy - yum yum! - Lauren
  15. Risotteria is soooo good! jmccorkell - I'm from Gettysburg and go to school in Philly so I guess I'm qualified to respond! Sorry to say that I haven't found many places in G-burg that are gluten-free - except Mr. G's ice cream (the owner himself is Celiac!). In Philly, you must visit Mr. Ritts bakery! They love to hand out samples. I'll try to think of...
  16. Love my Zojirushi, which I use with Manna from Anna bread mix. I heard lots of positive reviews of this brand, and that's why I made the purchase. The booklet that came along with it even has a gluten-free bread recipe! The website is www.zojirushi.com I have modelBBCC-X20 - Lauren
  17. I just got back from Bethany Beach! It was a VERY Celiac-friendly vacation spot. Too Life in Fenwick Island was wonderful - I'm so lucky that I literally stumbled upon it my second day there. Not only was I able to get a yummy gluten-free beverage, but I also picked up some muffins from Mr. Ritts while I was there. They also pointed me in the right...
