  1. I'm in Philly, not NY, but I never knew there were so many Celiacs in the publishing industry! We definitely need to get together! I've been to Risoterria before... worth making the trip back. - Lauren
  2. jkmunchkin! You work as a business manager for a magazine? Mind if I ask which one? I'm going for my masters in Publication Management right now - we need to chat sometime!!! - Lauren
  3. Just a reminder to anyone who lives near Gettysburg PA - they're having a support group meeting Monday, November 7 at the Gettysburg Hospital @ 7:00 pm. It's a great group - I highly recommend attending if you can! - Lauren
  4. Haha, no advice, but thanks for letting me know I'm not the only one with this problem! I often complain that I wish I could TELL my body where to gain weight - but unfortunately the first places I notice weight loss are my face and my chest. This leaves me looking gaunt and flat... oh well. I wish I had a solution, but at least take comfort in knowing that...
  5. Oh boy, cornbread, how do you make the Manna from Anna w/o a bread machine?? I tried just using a heavy-duty electric mixer, and it was still such a mess! Now I have a bread machine, and it's a much neater process. Of course, I'm no expert in the kitchen... I'm right with you on Anna's being the BEST bread ever! Just made myself a cheese sandwich with...
  6. I knew that Philly had a good group, but they always meet on evenings that I have class! I'd be interested in informal meetings too, so keep me updated - Lauren
  7. I live just outside of Philly in NJ and I'm a grad student at Drexel in Philly. Let me know if you organize a get-together or if you want help in organizing one - Lauren
  8. Oh... my...!!! I had NO idea there was a link. I had pancreatitis 2 months before I was diagnosed celiac disease. I almost died. It was the most painful experience of my LIFE. I always thought it might have triggered my celiac disease. Maybe it was the other way around....? This is VERY interesting to me. Anyone else had pancreatitis? - Lauren
  9. Hahah, thanks for the laugh Jnkmnky - if it's covered in sugar and bad for me, I'm GUARANTEED to love it! - Lauren
  10. Got this response from them about a month ago, so I would say "Yes": "JOLLY TIME Pop Corn does not contain the gluten that comes from wheat, rye, oats and barley. Our flavor providers have also assured us that our flavorings are gluten free. Unfortunately, I must tell you there are small amounts of casein in all JOLLY TIME microwave products. The...
  11. I highly recommend the Zojirushi. I have the BBCC-X20. Worth the price, but I've never used anything else. - Lauren
  12. I'm Gloucester county, but South Jersey isn't too far is it? - Lauren
  13. Another vote for the G-burg Support Group! Hey Mom22, it's me Lauren, I finally found this site Don't think I'll be able to make it to the next meeting because I have class in Philly that night... but I'm sure my Mom will be there in my place. The G-burg group really is great - they were my saviors when I was first diagnosed! I definitely recommend...
  14. Laura, Do you have any contact info for that? I'm so proud of my local Giant - they're finally starting their own little "gluten-free" section! Camp Hill isn't too far from me... Thanks for sharing! - Lauren
  15. Kilwin's has gluten-free icecream??? I worked there for all of my summers during college (not the Mackinac location though), and when I was diagnosed with celiac disease, the first thing I did was check to see if anything at Kilwin's was gluten-free. The response I got back from headquarters was "no," but this was a couple years ago and I haven't checked...
  16. I've been vegetarian since I was 4 years old and wasn't diagnosed with Celiac until I was 21, so eating meat was out of the question at that point - vegetarianism was already a pretty firm part of my lifestyle! I do just fine and supplement with a lot of protein bars, and other protein sources. That's the main thing you have to be conscious of - getting...
  17. I'm back! I had a really great time. Italy and Greece were beautiful. I definitely want to go back! Overall, the trip went pretty well, as far as food goes. The second night, in Venice, we were glutened Other than that, everything was fine though. The first 2 days we spent in Venice, then we were on a cruise ship. All of the food on the cruise...
  18. Thanks so much! I'll be back Sept 25 with a full report! Ciao! - Lauren
  19. I leave tomorrow! Thanks for asking, I'll let you know how it goes - so far everything seems very organized. I still can't help being a little nervous, but Bob & Ruth have been doing this for awhile with a lot of success, so I guess I should just trust them - Lauren
  20. Their stuff is the best! They came to my local support group meeting and I was so impressed... that I got a little carried away with ordering from them. I ordered a couple pizzas, a bunch of eggplant parmagian (sp?), and some AMAZING cinnamon rolls. It's so expensive though, I really can't afford to do it all the time. But yes, the food is incredible. ...
  21. Deb, I'm moving to Deptford, NJ. Are you familiar with the town? - Lauren
  22. Hey everyone, I'm super excited because in a week and a half I'm leaving for a cruise that will be entirely gluten-free! I'm going with the travel group called Bob & Ruth's Gluten-Free Getaways. I was just wondering if anyone had ever done any travelling through them before? For anyone who hasn't heard of them, their website is www.bobandruths...
  23. Yep, I think Frederick is growing a little too fast for itself! The roads and stuff can't keep up - I always get stuck in traffic coming home through Frederick. I'm going to the theater in that new-ish shopping center (the one that has Ann Taylor Loft and a Starbucks by the entrance)... I forget what the theater itself is called. I work for a magazine...
  24. Ken, I'm getting my masters in Publication Management. I have my bachelors in Rhetoric & Communications. For one of my grad classes last year, I "created" a magazine entirely about Celiac disease and the gluten-free diet I think EVERYTHING at Mr. Ritts is ridiculously good! I'll have to try the apple cake next time. I got my birthday cake from...
  25. Hey everyone! "Home" for me is Gettysburg, PA, I work in Howard County, MD, I go to school in Philadelphia, and I'm moving to New Jersey soon. So yep, I've got Maryland and the East Coast covered! I'm 23, enjoy reading, horseback riding, horses and animals in general. I work for a horse magazine. Kaiti - do you go to school in Frederick? I...
