  1. I see the best.... Dr. Fasano The GI I had before Dr.F just didn't know enough about Celiac Disease. Dr. Fasano stepped in at a crucial time for me, and literally saved my life. I had to see him quite frequently at first, now it's only twice a year (checking my antibody levels). I also see a nutrionist because I have a difficult time maintaining...
  2. Hi Bromo and welcome to the board I'm not sure how many calories you're taking in per day, but there is such a thing as too eating too little, sending your body more or less into "starvation mode" -basically conserving your weight even though you're eating less. I'm no expert, but no one should be eating less than 1200 calories a day! Plus, if...
  3. Open Original Shared Link Hey Everyone! I just wanted to remind you that I'm walking in the International Walk for Celiac Disease in Baltimore this weekend, May 8. IronedOut (Julie) from this forum, is also on my team, Celiac4Life. For those who aren't familiar with the walk, it raises $ for Dr. Fasano and the University of Maryland Center for Celiac...
  4. I work at Outback. I'm not sure who told you that all of the restaurant's dressings are gluten-free, but the Bleu Cheese and the Mustard Vinigarette are NOT gluten-free. All others are. I recommend the tangy tomato. - Lauren
  5. I sent you a PM. - Lauren
  6. Fudgie! Fudgie! Fudgie! They look monstrous, but you simply MUST get one while at Risotteria. Worth the trip alone. - Lauren
  7. Someone bought those for me and I thought they were terrible! So maybe I'm not the only one... I like a lot of Whole Foods' Bakehouse items, but I don't understand the idea of a cheese flavored breakfast food. They might not have been selling well, but who knows, it never hurts to try to get WF to carry them again if you really like them. Good luck. Wish...
  8. Aww, thanks Patti - where is Marlton? I go to school in Philly, so it's easy for me to swing by the Whole Foods on 20th and Callowhill. Usually they have a better selection - maybe it was because I was there on a Sunday? I really wanted to try those scones, or maybe the Morning Glory Muffins. The muffins are listed on their flyer, but I've never seen them...
  9. Ughh. I was at Whole Foods yesterday and really wanted to try their cranberry orange scones. They had 3 packages out, all marked as "sell by 4/27" and they ALL had mold on the bottom. When I asked if they had more in the freezer, I was told that everything they had was out on the shelf. I was looking for a breakfast treat, but they didn't even have the muffins...
  10. At the Outback where I work, the croutons are stored nowhere near the rest of the salad toppings. I think Outback takes adequate precautions, but maybe training for the servers could be better. I would bet that the crumbs you saw in your salad were not because croutons fell into the cheese, but because a server grabbed some croutons for one salad, and then...
  11. I SO wish I could go, I've never been so tempted to play hookie! Alas, "Computer Image Generation & Telecommunications" is one of those classes I just cannot afford to miss If anyone does go, please let me know how the dinner is. I hope someone is able to go. Even though the supposed registration deadline has passed, if anyone is still interested...

Yes, the Outback where I work does this as well. However, we also have extra packs of brown sugar (minus the bread slice), so if someone orders from the gluten-free menu and they want a sweet potato, we can use that. So just specify that when you order. Trust me, when I found out that this was common at Outback, I gave 'em hell! They should update their website...
  13. Hey all, I'm a graduate student at Drexel University in Philadelphia. As with most colleges, Drexel sends out a daily e-mail to all students with upcoming events, etc. Well imagine my surprise to see this: "'Gluten-Free Cooking Spree' at the Academic Bistro "The Goodwin College of Professional Studies' hospitality studies division, in conjunction...
  14. Very dense, but I actually like it. Great for PB&J. - Lauren
  15. Fantastic Foods makes soup cups (dehydrated ingredients) and all you have to do is add hot water. They are yummy, light, portable, and all I have to do is ask my college cafe for a cup of hot water. Thai noodle bowls and their other meals (there's one that is peanut noodles that I really like) are the same. I also pack carrot sticks or other veggies in plastic...
  16. I decided to become a vegetarian at the tender age of 4. Neither of my parents are vegetarians. I watched the movie "Charlotte's Web," made the connection between animals (which I love) and meat, and declared, "I'm never eating anything with eyes again!" My parents thought it was a phase, but 20 years later, I'm still a vegetarian. I think it's totally...
  17. which Outback did you go to? - Lauren
  18. Danielle - that's awesome! Consider yourself very lucky. I now have a nutrionist that knows celiac disease and I'm quite happy Keep us updated on how it goes for you. - Lauren
  19. The Big Easy is owned by a family with a few Celiacs - they were very knowledgeable. I believe there was post about this last summer, you might want to check it out for more suggestions. Unfortunately, the gluten-free cafe "Too Life!" is closing, but I'm not sure when you are planning a trip to BB - it might still be open when you go there? - Lauren
  20. Be careful, the one near me fries their chips in the same oil as floured items. - Lauren
  21. The "gluten-free" isn't plastered all over the package (as it should be!). Look on the back, right hand side. It says something about Franklin Farm burgers are gluten-free.... yada yada." It's in small print, easy to miss I like the portabello ones better than the regular ones. Not bad! - Lauren
  22. Well I guess I was just generally a mess, with my vitamins and minerals being off. Once I was back to normal blood levels, the main thing I noticed was more energy! - Lauren
  23. I had low Potassium, and was prescribed some pill (prob the same as you) and routinely tested until I was normal. At this time, I also had very low Phosphorus levels and had to drink something called nutra-phos. I'm not sure if low potassium and low phos. go hand-in-hand, but do you happen to know if they tested your phos levels? Pototoes are a good source...
  24. Yes, they are a part of Enjoy Life. Great company! - Lauren
  25. I know Trazodone is gluten-free... don't know about the other restrictions you have though. It's worth a try - for me it works wonders. I'm the same way in that I don't have too much trouble falling asleep, it's STAYING asleep that's the problem. I also get up to use the bathroom 3-4 times a night. Pre-Traz I used to wake up @ 2-3am wide awake with my mind...
