ARCHIVED Bought A Great Cookbook Yesterday...
Lauren M replied to jerseyangel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Patti - I don't mind at all, just wasn't sure if it would taste different because it does not use rice flour. Thanks! - Lauren -
ARCHIVED Generic Zoloft?
Lauren M replied to ilovechocolate's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Bumpity bump.... Can anyone answer my question? I've only got 2 days left of my "name brand" Zoloft. Based on what you wrote, Judy, it sounds like mine (Sertraline, TEVA) IS gluten-free - am I correct here? Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out!!! - Lauren -
ARCHIVED Bought A Great Cookbook Yesterday...
Lauren M replied to jerseyangel's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Are the recipes fairly easy? (I'm not much of a cook!) Would you suggest it even for someone like me, who CAN tolerate rice flour and other grains (just not gluten obviously)? - Lauren -
ARCHIVED Generic Zoloft?
Lauren M replied to ilovechocolate's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Oh my gosh, thank you SO much for this post! I just got my Zoloft refill, and I too nowget Sertraline, and it says TEVA, so I'm OK, right? I haven't needed to take any from the generic bottle yet, so this was perfect timing. I take 200 mg a day - Lauren -
Hi there! Where are you going to school? I'm a grad student at Drexel. I think Center City is very disappointing as far as Celiac friendly restaurants. At least Philly has Mr. Ritts bakery though. - Lauren

I can relate to many of your stories. Like many of you, I've always had a "sensitive" stomach. Had CAT scans as a very young child (4 yrs), as I always complained of tummy aches. Doctors said I was just a high-strung, nervous child, with a nervous stomach. I had mono when I was 11. My mom thinks that was the trigger. If you ask me, this may sound...

Outback is not getting rid of their gluten-free menu. Because they are changing their overall menu (adding some new items, getting rid of some old), they will probably be updating the gluten-free menu as well. At my Outback, we got the new menu today - but I didn't really see how it would affect the gluten-free options. - Lauren

Yay! I was just going to dig up that other thread to ask how your dinner went. I'm glad that everything went well, despite your server's lack of knowledge on the gluten-free menu. Definitely get the Thunder next time - or at least bring it home with you for later!!! - Lauren

ARCHIVED Thinking Of Mcdougalling
Lauren M replied to Mayflowers's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Mayflowers, I consider myself a "successful" Celiac vegetarian. I've been a vegetarian since I was 4 years old, and am now 24. When I was diagnosed with Celiac at age 21, I wasn't about to change something that was more than a lifetyle for me! BUT with that said, my staples for getting necessary protein DO include eggs, dairy, and lots of soy products... -
ARCHIVED Want To Buy A Bread Machine
Lauren M replied to Suzie-GFfamily's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Jules, I actually have never used another bread machine, but I was surprised at how EASY it is to use the Zoj. I mean, the first few times, I really sabotaged my own bread making attempts (failing to properly secure the paddles, etc.) but it still turned out a great loaf of bread. I have tried various mixes and homemade bread - always turns out well. Also... -
And I can say, as a server, I would prefer that you do that as well! - Lauren

As far as steaks - the Victoria's Filet is probably the most tender cut, and is very popular. If you like sirloins, the Outback Special sells well, and if you like Prime Rib, just make sure you don't get Au Jus! Also make sure that with your salad, you not only request "no croutons" but also ask that it be mixed in a CLEAN bowl, and that the server mark the...

ARCHIVED How About New Jersey?
Lauren M replied to Mayflowers's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
We should all get together sometime! Or even better, you all can come eat at the Ouback in Deptford (where I work) and request me as your server and I will personally make sure your meal is prepared properly! Beware though, I will probably deliver your Chocolate Thunder to the table with a big bite out of it - Lauren -
ARCHIVED High Cholesterol, Hyperglycemia....
Lauren M replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
But Chelsea - don't you have HYPOglycemia? You need sugar/starch, right? I have HYPERglycemia. My fasting blood sugar is naturally high, but not so high as to classify for type 1 diabetes. Either way, hypo-, hyper-, I think it's all about balancing your carbs, proteins, and fats - right? Just maybe at different ratios? - Lauren -
ARCHIVED Want To Buy A Bread Machine
Lauren M replied to Suzie-GFfamily's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
(chanting): Zoji! Zoji! Zoji! I'm a ditzy non-baker, and the Zoj just makes it so easy to turn out a perfect loaf of gluten-free bread, every single time. Love mine. - Lauren -
ARCHIVED High Cholesterol, Hyperglycemia....
Lauren M replied to Lauren M's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nancy, Because of the recommendation of so many people on this board, I checked this book out from the library. I didn't finish reading it yet, but I just don't think it would work for me, as I am a vegetarian. I really like the idea of going back to whole, natural foods.... but then that craving for ice cream strikes. And seeing as I need to gain weight... -
ARCHIVED Hoffner's Pita Flats
Lauren M replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought those awhile ago from Dietary Shoppe in Philly, but just didn't know what to do with them so I didn't have the motivation to try them yet. Now I want to try them out! (Time to dig into the back of the freezer!)Thanks for the thumbs-up - Lauren -
ARCHIVED How About New Jersey?
Lauren M replied to Mayflowers's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Yeah Jersey! I'm living in Deptford right now. I see a nutrionist in Moorestown and always visit the Wegman's there, which is literally across the street! I swear, everytime I go to that Wegmans, I meet someone with Celiac and end up having a 20 minute conversation! - Lauren -
Congrats on the Anniversary!!! I work at Outback, so I literally know the menu inside and out. Do you like steak, chicken, fish, seafood....? And of course you HAVE to get dessert - the Chocolate Thunder from Down Under if you're a chocoholic, or the Syndney's Sinful Sundae if you love coconut... mmmm, just order them both! Can you tell...

ARCHIVED Ricola Cough Drops
Lauren M replied to hineini's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I remember hearing they weren't gluten-free. I wouldn't risk it Shame, because they used to be the only cough drops I would use. Interestingly though, since I was diagnosed with Celiac and have been gluten-free (3 years next month) I really haven't gotten colds/sick, so I haven't had to use them! Maybe some others can suggest some gluten-free cough... -
ARCHIVED Grilled Cheese And Tomato Soup
Lauren M replied to Corkdarrr's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Amy's tomato soup is AWESOME! I was a big grilled cheese and Campbell's tomato soup girl pre-diagnosis, but I think I've come to like Amy's soup better - Lauren -
Marcia, I've never heard of it. I use Trazodone to help me sleep and it is gluten-free. Do you think you could get your doctor to write you a script for that? Have you tried it before? - Lauren

ARCHIVED Cherrybrooke Farms
Lauren M replied to sore joints's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Cherry Brook Kitchen's website has a store locator. I'm not familiar enough w/Ontario geography to know your location, but here's the link: Open Original Shared Link Good luck! - Lauren -
pretty sure it's Open Original Shared Link

I saw the original of that episode (didn't we have a discussion then?) I watch the show pretty regularly and if I remember correctly, it takes place in Phoenix, AZ. So maybe the pizza place is Picazzo's? - Lauren
