ARCHIVED Gillians Rolls
Lauren M replied to skinnyminny's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have to share - I just got home from Trader Joe's and they sell Gillian's French Rolls! They are under the TJ brand name, but I SWEAR they are the same ones - and SO much cheaper! I think I paid $3.29/pack! - Lauren -
ARCHIVED Protein Drink And Help With Weight Gain
Lauren M replied to BeckyW's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yikes, duh, yeah Genisoy powder would contain soy. Sorry, I gave you my response after a loooong night at work and obviously my brain wasn't functioning Hmm, I really can't think of any way to get a substantial amount of protein in a beverage without soy, dairy, or casein. Hmm.... Sorry I'm not much help! I knew that Boost and Ensure were "lactose... -
The honey mustard sauce that comes with the Alice Springs Chix is gluten-free. Enjoy! - Lauren

ARCHIVED Protein Drink And Help With Weight Gain
Lauren M replied to BeckyW's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ensure and Boost are gluten-free (except the chocolate malt ones) and come in "Plus" versions that are about 350 cals each. They also come in "high protein" versions. If you want a protein powder, Genisoy makes choco, vanilla, and strawberry flavors. - Lauren -
Do you take an iron supplement? I was anemic for years and years (despite taking an iron supplement daily), but when I went gluten-free, my iron levels finally became normal. The one thing that my nutrionist told me is to make sure you eat vitamin C with your iron, that it makes the iron more absorbable. So, an example would be spinach lasagna w/marinara...

ARCHIVED A Birthday With No Cake
Lauren M replied to ElizabethN's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Aww, Happy Birthday, Elizabeth! Don't feel bad about venting earlier, I would have been upset, too (I'm very sensitive). You don't have to appologize for your feelings! At my job, one of my coworkers who is BEYOND sweet made a flourless chocolate cake for me. It was delicious, but I must admit, I was a bit nervous to eat it since I know that baking gluten... -
ARCHIVED Gillians Rolls
Lauren M replied to skinnyminny's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love Gillian's french rolls!!!! They better not be changing the formulation! I just checked the package I have, and like your's, it says 40 cals for 1/2 a roll. I wonder why the website says otherwise - I don't know which is right, but I hope they didn't mess with a good thing and change these rolls b/c they are PERFECT as is! Sorry, I wasn't... -
ARCHIVED Please Name Your Top 4 Or 5 Gluten Free Foods!
Lauren M replied to Lymetoo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My newest obsession is Gillian's French Rolls. SO UNBELIEVABLY GOOD! SO light, SO yummy, go with EVERYTHING! (ok, I'll stop raving now...) For making your own bread, Breads by Anna is awesome. I've also tried 'Cause Your Special, Namaste and Really Great Food Co. mixes with success. Lesser Evil glazed popcorn (especially the cinnamon one!) are really... -

ARCHIVED Dark M&m's?
Lauren M replied to MallysMama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jenny, They DID make dark chocolate M&Ms awhile ago, just for a short time as some type of Star Wars promotion. Of course, I couldn't find them anywhere, every place was sold out, so I never got to try them. I heard they were really good though. I hope we both can find some this time!! - Lauren -
ARCHIVED Ben & Jerry's
Lauren M posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ben & Jerry's ice cream is having a contest to pick a new flavor: Open Original Shared Link I submitted an entry for a gluten-free Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, since I used to love their gluten version pre-diagnosis. I know they won't pick my submission, but maybe one day! I bet they get all kinds of wacky entries! Hopefully some good ones... -
ARCHIVED Dark M&m's?
Lauren M replied to MallysMama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dark chocolate M&Ms?? I finally found the white chocolate ones (ehhh, not as good as I had hoped), but dark chocolate is my absolute favorite!!! Sorry, that was no help. If I find some I'll give 'em a try and let you know how it works for me. - Lauren -
ARCHIVED Food-tek Products
Lauren M replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jessica, Yay! I'm glad you enjoyed them as much as I did! I always hesitate to "recommend" gluten-free products, as I think my definition of "tastes good" has changed the longer I've been gluten-free!!! - Lauren -
ARCHIVED How To Make A Family Cookbook..........any Sites Or Ideas?
Lauren M replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Another thought - if this is just for yourself and you only need 1 copy of your cookbook, couldn't you purchase and decorate a regular, old spiral notebook, type up and print out your recipes, punch holes in the papers, and put them in the binder? You could even use those page dividers to separate "appetizers", "dinners", "desserts", etc. This would be functional... -
ARCHIVED How To Make A Family Cookbook..........any Sites Or Ideas?
Lauren M replied to angel-jd1's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I'm in a Publications Management program in graduate school, and am familiar with several sites that allow you to "self publish"/"print on demand" a book (ie - not going through a publisher, submitting proposals, etc.). All of the sites that I'm familiar with require that you pay per book, and depending on how many copies you want to print, that would affect... -
The Cinnamon Oblivion gluten-free version is basically vanilla icecream with caramel sauce and cinnamon pecans. Actually, if you like those things, it's awesome. Perhaps the Thunder is just too rich for you? Are you sure it is a gluten reaction? Are you sensitive to nuts? - Lauren
-
But if your server is following the rules, he/she should charge you a $2.00 upcharge PER order from the kids menu if you are an adult. - Lauren
-
I work at Outback and I have to say that the Thunder (and the Sydney's Sundae) are the MOST trustworthy and tasty options on the menu, in my opinion! (sidenote - I am a vegetarian however!) I think that there is the least amount of risk for cross contamination, just by the way the kitchen is set up (at least at my OB) with these desserts. Eating out...

ARCHIVED Annalise Roberts' Coconut Cake
Lauren M replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Yes - what Jillian said I know if I put the time and $ into a book, I wouldn't want all the good stuff leaked out! No reason for people to buy it then (gee, sounds like the whole Napster debate...) - Lauren -
ARCHIVED What Are Your Brands & Flavors Of Gluten Free Ice Cream ?
Lauren M replied to Kelly J's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Has anyone tried the new Breyer's Cyclones? As far as I know, there is only 1 flavor we can have (caramel cup swirl or something like that), but mmmm is it good! I missed the "Blizzard" type treats, and this is pretty darn tasty. - Lauren -
ARCHIVED My Psychologist Is Interested In Celiac Connection
Lauren M replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ughh, I wish that was the case for me. Instead, all my problems started AFTER going gluten-free. It has nothing to do with the gluten-free diet, it's just that when you tell someone with a type A personality like me that she can't eat something, I can get a little psychotic about it (anxiety, paranoia, etc. about making sure I follow the diet to a tee...... -
ARCHIVED Bread From Scratch
Lauren M replied to Sandi*'s topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sandi, I too have the Zoj bread machine and I don't know what I did without it. I'm still experimenting with "from scratch" breads, but nothing has come close to my favorite mix - Breads by Anna. It's just so easy and SOOO good. I've also made Gluten-Free Pantry's and Bob's Red Mill sandwich breads for bread machines in my Zoj. They were both very tasty... -
ARCHIVED Book Review: Gluten Free Baking Classics
Lauren M replied to angel-jd1's topic in Publications & Publicity
I made the vanilla cupcakes from the book, with the Authentic Foods superfine flour, per the author's suggestion. They turned out quite tasty, but I think I may have beat the ingredients at too high of a speed, as they came out rather "fluffy." All is good though - I added some strawberries and whipped cream for a PERFECT strawberry shortcake! I've used... -
ARCHIVED Mayo Alternatives?
Lauren M replied to BRUMI1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Amen, lorka! I get so confused with "this is good for you, no wait it's bad for you.... but only if you eat it on the fourth day of months ending in 'y'..." I think moderation is a good word! - Lauren
