ARCHIVED Does Anyone Just Have Celiac Only?
Lauren M replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was diagnosed at 21 also! I'm thankful it was at a fairly young age, and I think it was triggered only a couple of years before. At 21 I was old enough to take the diagnosis seriously, but young enough to (hopefully!) not have permanent damage. - Lauren -
ARCHIVED What Do You Personally Do To Gain Weight
Lauren M replied to Claire's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Good luck! Seeing a nutrionist has really helped me (something you might want to think about), but what I wrote in my post is basically what I got out nutrionist appts as far as gaining weight. Also, it can be difficult to find a nutrionist that knows Celiac. - Lauren -
ARCHIVED New Cocoa Puffs
Lauren M replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a box of Trix that I thought was gluten-free and it says the same thing. I also assumed it meant CORN flour because of the way it is listed: "Corn (whole grain corn, flour, meal), Sugar....." I haven't eaten it yet though.... not sure what to do now! PS - for people who like Chocolate & PB - I mix Cocoa Puffs and Envirokids PB... -
ARCHIVED Prescription Sleep Medication
Lauren M replied to lorka150's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
To each his own, because I didn't like Ambien AT ALL! It didn't help me sleep at all, and I think it gave me very odd dreams. I also know people who were on Ambien and did some WEIRD things (almost as if they were drunk or on drugs). I take Trazodone. Works like a charm for me. - Lauren -
ARCHIVED International Walk For Celiac Disease
Lauren M replied to lisaemu's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
hehe, yes I know better than to put that answer! I wonder who made the quiz? I actually haven't looked at it, I hope it doesn't have any other inaccuracies! And thank you! - Lauren -
ARCHIVED International Walk For Celiac Disease
Lauren M replied to lisaemu's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Sorry, but that's not really "my" site - ie I didn't write that. That's the generic webpage for people who are participating in the walk, and I just added my name and a couple personal touches. I couldn't change everything though. Sorry for the confusion. - Lauren -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Veggie "burgers"?
Lauren M replied to Maureen73's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
my Whole Foods has this brand that's near the tofu section, I don't remember the name though. They come in packs of 2 and are SOOOOO good. I like Sunshine, but these are way better in my opinion - Lauren -

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Just Have Celiac Only?
Lauren M replied to Moongirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Knock on wood, I think that Celiac is the only thing wrong with me, physically speaking of course - Lauren -
I have no side effects w/Zoloft and am on quite a high dosage (200 mg). I've had sleeping problems long before I ever took Zoloft, so I also take Trazodone. I am not on thryoid meds, I'm not sure how/if they would affect Zoloft. For me - Prozac seemed to help best with depression. When I was on it, I couldn't be in a bad mood if I TRIED. I switched to...

ARCHIVED International Walk For Celiac Disease
Lauren M replied to lisaemu's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm doing the one in B-more too! I'm team Celiac4Life (which currently only consists of myself and my Mother haha). I was actually going to post on here to see if anyone would like to (pretty please) sponsor me. You can sponsor by going to this site: Open Original Shared Link And if there are any individuals who would like to join my team... -
ARCHIVED What Do You Personally Do To Gain Weight
Lauren M replied to Claire's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have 2 suggestions to contribute, as I have struggled with this as well and recently was able to gain weight. (1) You want to gain in a HEALTHY way. Sure, if you eat a ice cream, potato chips, and a bunch of junk all day, you'll gain weight, but there are far healthier ways to do it. Peanut butter is my friend. It has healthy fat, and, well, it's just... -
I do! I really like Klonopin. Maybe the generic would be OK for you? Also take Zoloft (200 mg) for depression and OCD and Trazodone (50 or 75 mg) for sleep. I tried Ambien and HATED it (didn't help me sleep and gave me crazy dreams!) and now that all the bad stories are coming out about it, I'm glad I switched to my Traz! Some people complain of "Trazodone...

ARCHIVED Detour Energy Bars
Lauren M replied to rmmadden's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Maybe things have changed? I saved the e-mail that I got from them a few months ago: Dear Lauren, Thank you for contacting us regarding our Designer Whey products. Unfortunately, none of the bars are gluten free. However, all seven award winning flavors of our Designer Whey protein are gluten free. Good luck with all of your health and fitness... -
ARCHIVED Detour Energy Bars
Lauren M replied to rmmadden's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I really like the Genisoy chocolate peanut butter protein bars. Also - several of the Zone protein bars are gluten-free - the chocolate raspberry one is yummy! And they can be found pretty much anywhere. The Think Thin bars (labeled gluten-free right on the wrapper) aren't very tasty - but I'll still eat them if I know I need to get some protein in me! Other... -
ARCHIVED Celiac, Severe Bloating, & Eating Disorders
Lauren M replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Gail, I'm so glad you can relate. Through some therapy I've come to realize how food and pain are forever linked in my mind - I also had a severe case of pancreatitis, just before the celiac disease diagnosis. I've really had to challenge that mindset and push myself through some physically and mentally uncomfortable moments, for the sake of my health... -
ARCHIVED Celiac, Severe Bloating, & Eating Disorders
Lauren M replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ensure is absolutely gluten-free as is Boost except the "choclate malt" ones (I forget exactly what it's called, but something obvious like that). I like the Boost puddings! The rest of the supplement drinks sit really heavy in my stomach; I wouldn't drink them if I didn't have to. Thank you Lorka, I went back and forth about whether I wanted to share... -
ARCHIVED Celiac, Severe Bloating, & Eating Disorders
Lauren M replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I actually had to go into the hospital to have a picc (sp?) line inserted in my arm and was given TPN until I was at a stable weight. I went inpatient at Renfrew, a center for eating disorders, where I learned to tolerate those feelings of fullness and those fears of food. It was very difficult for me, especially since I didn't relate to the body image issues... -
Soon, I too will be an Outback Server with Celiac! That must be SO comforting to know that she understood your dietary needs. (PS that's how I sold myself when I applied for the job - I'm working on my masters degree but I have no waitressing experience!) - Lauren

ARCHIVED Celiac, Severe Bloating, & Eating Disorders
Lauren M replied to a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OK, admitting something that's probably too private for a public forum... Celiac Disease caused me to develop an Eating Disorder. I was not Anorexic, was actually classified as "ED-NOS" (eating disorder not otherwise specified) b/c I didn't WANT to lose weight, but I did restrict my food intake. I dropped to a very scary 78 lbs (on my 5'7" frame) and had... -
Love the Zoji. Don't have anything to compare it to really, but I can't imagine life without it. Give me my Zoji and a bag of Manna from Anna mix and I am a happy girl. (or should I say 3 hours later I'm a happy girl) - Lauren

ARCHIVED Food For Life Tortillas
Lauren M replied to bluejeangirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I like the Don Pancho tortillas better than the Food For Life ones. I follow the instructions on the package - wrap the tortilla in a wet paper towel and then microwave. They don't break apart when in the package either, as long as you keep it sealed. - Lauren -
I just got the e-mail notice too, and although I've never been there it's definitely sad news. First "To Life," now "Happy Happy Happy" - Lauren
