  1. I cut my spaghetti squash in half and put in an 8x8 casserole dish, face down in about a 1/2 of water. I cover with plastic wrap and then cook on high for 8 - 10 minutes, turning half way through. Sometimes the squash is too big even cut in half, so I'll stack it crooked like. Half way through the cooking, I'll switch their places and cook the rest of...
  2. I think I'd have to disagree with this. The first ingredient on this bread is sprouted wheat. They might not used "flour" as they are using "sprouted wheat", but that does NOT mean it's gluten-free. Flourless and gluten-free can mean two different things!!!
  3. If the thyroid check doesn't show anything conclusive, you might consider your birth control. I'm half Japanese and always had beautiful thick straight hair. SO MUCH of it I had to have it thinned out when I got it cut. Just ridiculous amounts of hair. I went off birth control several years ago and it changed completely. It's not nearly so thick and...
  4. Viola, I think this is KEY! As long as it is realized that getting a solution can make the biggest difference. Whining to whine does not make the situation positive or get anything accomplished. I am in NO WAY condemning those that vent...I know it's necessary sometimes. This is a frustrating illness to have. But finding the solution is...
  5. I'm a pretty positive person. Glass half full personality. I've not always been like that. I've struggled with depression for many years of my adult life. That's changed for several reason I won't go into now - a story for another time. But at one point in my life I realized that I HAVE A CHOICE about my reactions to life. When something happens that...
  6. I hope it doesn't sound too insensitive, but here goes... WE are all in charge of our own destiny. I'll say it again... WE are all in charge of our own destiny. Do what you can do to get your boss to take you seriously. Get a doctor's note, whatever. But don't be surprised if your boss or his superiors, shrug, and toss the note aside. Why?...
  7. I don't mean to be rude, as I realize this is a sensitive topic, but this makes no sense to me. After two weeks of ovulating and bursting a cyst you gave birth to your daughter? Did you not realize you were pregnant? So sorry to sound confused. I am.
  8. I'm sure your party will be a huge hit! I made a gluten-free Baked Ziti a few weeks ago for some friends with Tinkyada and they couldn't even tell. I also used Pamela's Brownie Mix for fudge brownies and I swear they're better than Betty Crocker's! The really neat thing I'm discovering is that eating gluten-free is not just possible, but that it...
  9. I feel like such a wino saying this... ...but thank God alcohol is gluten-free! I don't eat bread, pastries and pasta much anymore (unless, of course, it's gluten-free) but I definitely load the calories on via drinking. I only drink a few times a week, but sometimes it's really the only little vice I can enjoy.
  10. I get 'em too. I used to get them all the time, thinking it just appeared for no reason. Now I can see that it only happens when I get glutened. HINT: When you feel the "tingle" of a mouth blister, get a bottle of L-Lysine. It's a pill that when taken, slows the growth of the blister. As soon as I feel one coming on, I'll start taking them - three...
  11. Poppet, I fear you are making the same mistake that I made. I thought wheat-free meant gluten-free. It does not. Gluten is in other grains, as someone else mentioned. It is also in other ingredients in foods that you don't typically associate grains with. I've been wheat-free for years. Couldn't figure out why I felt a little better, but would have...
  12. Being 5' 2", I've never found a pair of jeans that fit that I don't have to hem. LOL!
  13. Eeks! Stories like this make my skin crawl. How is there are so few people in the medical world that we can use as resources. This disorder has been around for eons! It's not like it's a New thing. But then again, my step-mom is a registered dietician and when I told my dad that he couldn't be eating oats, and other glutened items (some meats, condiments...
  14. I'm 5' 2" and 105 lbs. My mother is Japanese and fairly petite, so that's not terribly abnormal. I was 5' 2" at 11 years old in the 6th grade - so I thought I'd be tall like my father. But I stopped growing around that time, but that's also about the time I began struggling with child depression. My weight at it's lowest (due to bulimia) was in college...
  15. Wow! I'm totally in awe as I read this. I'm 34, have had GI issues for as long as I can remember. Was bulimic in late HS and college years. Like someone else said, I would b&p on all the stuff I was sensitive to...cakes, cookies, donuts, pastries, bread, (even alcohol!) but didn't realize why it was so easy purge those from my system. All due to...
  16. Last night I had a bunch of friends over for dinner and needed a really easy and quick pasta dish. I didn't want to make separate meals for me, so I just made everything gluten-free. NOBODY COULD TELL! When I told them it was gluten-free, they were shocked! Made me feel so good! I really have to give it to Tinkyada for making such a great pasta though...
  17. My fairly immediate (within 30 minutes) symptoms are SEVERE brain fog with auras and headaches, pretty bad lethargy. After a few hours, the brain fog fades, but the headaches and flu-ish symptoms really come into play - the Big D. My skin tingles like I have a fever. Throat hurts, head continues pounding. Next day, the DH starts on my thumbs, forefinger...
  18. Tamara, Delicious-n-Fit's cookies are Awesome! Had the chocolate creme and it was fabulous - years since I've had one like that - YUM! And thanks for the tip on the store in Frisco. It would be a bit of a drive for me, but it's got to be better than the shipping costs from Kinnikinnick. Yikes! I plan on going to visit soon. WF is good, but different...
  19. Okay, I finally tried the Kinnikinnick chocolate glazed donuts. Pretty decent. I've never been a big cake donut fan, but I think I'll just have to get used to it. I've heard the chocolate dipped are even better, so I'll have to give those a whirl sometime. But they are much better than Nutralicious. Not that that takes much. God those were terrible...
  20. Totally Low-Carb a health food store in Dallas just shut down last week. I went today to get some gluten-free items and check on some Kinnikinnick donuts and they were closed. I met the owner today and she was busy selling all the shelving, equipment and lighting fixtures to anyone that would take them. She also mentioned the other health food store...
  21. ...the fact that Kinnikinnick chocolate glazed donuts look like a pile of big dog cr@p? Seriously. I was so excited about trying them until I opened the package and saw what they looked like. Ewww! My husband and I had a fit of the giggles while I bit into it. They tasted good though.
  22. Maybe you could just say, "God I would just DIE if I had insensitive table manners like you." But then again, I often get in trouble for my sarcasm, so don't take my advice.
  23. It IS hard to not cheat sometimes. But like someone else said, keep some gluten-free sweets and yummies around. When that craving hits me, at least I have SOMETHING to turn to as an alternative. Now when I see things I shouldn't eat, I have a much easier time turning it down. When I react now, it's because I've ingested something that has gluten in...
  24. I think I might have to disagree here. (Hate going against the tides. ) But Cipro does not have sulfa in it and it is not related to sulfa drugs other than it's an antibiotic. Most doctors give this to patients that have an allergy to sulfa drugs, because it IS that safe. And it is gluten-free. Is there a possibility that you took the generic version...
  25. Sometimes it's hard for the hubby's because they truly don't understand the importance of a gluten-free diet. My husband is one of the most sensitive men I know and he also has an issue with remembering. The more educated I get, the more I share, so the more he's educated. I try to keep mostly gluten-free foods in the house, so when he decides to cook...
