  1. I took Sudafed the other night for my congestion and felt pretty sick. I don't think it is gluten-free, or at least my body doesn't react well to it. I read on a gluten-free medication list that some robitussin decongestants are gluten-free. Hopefully that will work for me. Jen

    ARCHIVED Brain Fog

Hey Ravenwoodglass, What gluten-free mega vitamin do you take? Jen

    ARCHIVED Brain Fog

Well, I have finally figured out what brain fog is . I have been unable to concentrate, find the right words, and pretty much finish an entire sentence. I was glutenized yesterday and am not sure whether it's from that. I'm also not sure I'm getting all the necessary nutrients (just diagnosed). How do you make brain fog go away? Jen
  4. I think you're right, Higgins. It is hard to adjust to a new lifestyle when part of your identity is wrapped up in your profession. I'm dealing with that now too. Sounds like you did some interesting work. But, your new adventure will be good for your body and mind. Good luck! Jen
  5. Hey Danceswithwolves, I don't think you're overanalyzing your situation. Last week I found out I have celiac disease and I have been wondering about some of the same questions. I had rheumatoid arthritis when I was younger, frequent ear and sinus infections, and had trouble putting weight on as a child. I also see symptoms in my family members. I...
  6. Does anyone know whether Sudafed is gluten free? I read that it was gluten-free on a different forum, but I'm pretty convinced it's not . When I went to Sudafed's website they were not able to confirm that it is indeed gluten-free because they don't test for gluten in their products. What a bunch of malarkey. Has anyone taken Sudafed Nasal Decongestant...
  7. Hi everyone, I wish I could give you guys all a big hug. Thanks so much for your kind words. You're all so wise. I just started seeing a therapist today and brought this topic up with her. She mentioned that in general, many people tend to identify themselves with their profession and that many of us work so hard that we don't take time for ourselves...
  8. Higgins and Emerald Skies, Thank you both for responding. I feel relieved that I am not the only one in this situation. I kept working through my symptoms and not acknowledging them. I think my body was trying to alert me in different ways, but I ignored it. I think that's part of the reason I am where I am now. Jen
  9. Hi everyone, I recently found out I have celiac disease and I had to leave my job because my symptoms prevented me from getting through the workday. I was constantly sick, and as a teacher, I didn't think it was fair to myself or the students to not be there regularly. I decided not to work this coming school year until I am feeling better. Now that...
  10. Hey Shannon, So sorry to hear that your family is dealing with this. I hope that you will discover an answer for your daughter soon. I was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and it was discovered through the tTG test that a few people already mentioned. My GI doctor said that the test is 95% reliable and is one of the best tests you can take to...
  11. Hi Tama Chan, I am sorry to hear that you are feeling ill. I experienced several of your symptoms and I was just recently diagnosed with celiac disease last week. I would wake up in the morning with horrible pain right under my sternum. This pain would last through most of the day and I would also get nauseous. It got to the point where I was afraid...
  12. Interesting...Thanks for sharing what you know about dairy and villous atrophy. I've heard that dairy can be difficult for some people to digest when they are first diagnosed with celiac disease and I think I might be one of them. Jen
  13. Hi all, Kaiti and Danceswithwolves, you were talking about lactose intolerance when first diagnosed with celiac disease...I was just diagnosed a week and half ago. How long does it take to overcome the initial lactose intolerance associated with celiac disease? Jen

    ARCHIVED Anyone Ttc?

Hi everyone! Thanks for all the great info! My husband and I were TTC, but after my recent diagnosis with celiac disease we have abandoned the mission for now. From all your info, I gather that I should wait until I am feeling significantly better. As for folic acid and pre-natal vitamins, what kind do you take? I heard that certain medicines...
  15. Hi Rachel, I tried some gluten-free soup by Annie's today and it was super yummy. The potato leek soup, corn chowder, and creamy tomato are gluten-free. I got it at Whole Foods and there were other gluten-free soups there too. I'm kinda new to the celiac disease scene, so I haven't figured out how to make my own soup yet. I guess it will come in...
  16. Hi Berneses, I am from Massachusetts and am looking into GI doctors in the Boston area. Would you mind sharing any doctor's names you know of who may specialize in celiac disease? Thanks, Jen H
  17. Does anyone know whether phenergan is gluten-free? I was diagnosed with celiac disease last week and have taken phenergan for nausea on occasion. Jen
  18. Hi Susan, I'm from the Cape too (Hyannis). I was diagnosed with celiac sprue last week and would like to join a support group. Do you know a contact name/number for a support group on the Cape? Also, do you know a good GI doctor and nutritionist on the Cape or in Boston? Thanks, Jen
  19. Pixiegirl, I'm from the Cape too and understand your love of Sweet Tomatoes pizza. I used to have Sweet T's on speed dial on my phone. Their pizza is the one food I miss on the gluten-free diet. Jen
