  1. Hi GFstudent, I'm 28 and just found out I have celiac disease about 3 weeks ago. I have been sick for the past year and am happy to finally know what is going on with my body. I am just starting to deal with the "stigmatism" of having celiac disease. My friends and husband have been very supportive and have even talked to other people who have celiac...
  2. Hey Turtle, I'm pretty new to the gluten-free scene and I've been to Outback twice since my diagnosis. On both occasions I became sick. I was extremely careful to voice my concerns about making sure my meal was gluten-free. I got the chicken griller and asked them not to put any seasoning on it and to make sure the grill was cleaned. I even had the...
  3. ERRRGG! Maalox, you stink. Thanks for letting me know about that, Canadian Karen. The Delphi list has become my new best friend. Jen
  4. Sweet! Thanks so much for those restaurant listings. I was surprised to hear that the Italian restaurant has an entire gluten-free menu! It's been so long since I've eaten Italian. I haven't been to any weddings since finding out I was gluten-free. Should I try to call the reception site ahead of time to see if they can prepare something gluten-free...
  5. Hi Michelle, I wish I had seen this topic sooner. I may be too late...There is an Outback Steakhouse in Hyannis where I've eaten gluten-free and a Natural Healthfood Store in Centerville as well. There are also two healthfood stores in Falmouth, which is pretty close to Mashpee. I'm pretty new to gluten-free, so I'm sorry I don't know of more restaurants...
  6. Hey guys, I'm heading to Chicago for a wedding in September and I'll be there for a few days. Does anyone know of any restaurants that serve gluten-free food or cater to nutritional needs? Also, are there any health food stores where I could pick up a few items? Thanks, Jen
  7. I'm not sure I'd use Maalox either. I am new to gluten-free, took some, and think I became sick from it. Jen
  8. I had a similar experience. When I went off the pill I got my period each month, but it would only last 2-3 days. It's normally 7 days. I've been off the pill for 7 months now and the last 2 months were more regular. Maybe it will just take a little time for your body to readjust. Jen

    ARCHIVED Legal Sea Food

Awesome! Thanks for sharing the news. Do they have any chicken dishes? I know it's a seafood restaurant and all... Jen
  10. I'm starting to wonder if I'm reacting to a food allergy. I went to the doctor today and she told me to take a decongestant and an antihistamine. She seems to think I have "seasonal allergies". Anyways, my ears and head are feeling a bit better. Jen
  11. Hey Rachel, Oh man...that's a tough one. Is there another area of the company you could work in where you wouldn't be exposed to flour? I am sure you'd be careful of what you handle, but you don't always know what you're breathing in and you do have to be concerned about other people as well. If you do decide to head back to your job, perhaps your...
  12. Hi Granny, It sounds like Gas-X are both okay as long as they're soft gels. On the Delphi forum it says: Gas X softgels=gluten-free (contains corn and maltodextrin) Chewable tablets=NOT gluten-free Phazyme softgels =gluten-free Sorry, I don't know anything about sorbitol. Jen
  13. I've been to Outback a few times and ordered the chicken griller. How should I ask the meat to be prepared? No marinade and scrub the grill? No croutons on the salad and prepare it in a separate bowl? Sorry, I'm still really new to this and I'm paranoid about eating out. Jen
  14. Bummer...I was hoping their potato leek soup was gluten-free.
  15. I bought some Empire Kosher white ground turkey at Trader Joes and made pasta sauce from it. When I read the package the ingredients it said "white ground turkey and natural flavors added". I am new to celiac disease, so I went on the Empire Kosher website and it says that their ground turkey is gluten-free. I have been really sick tonight and have not...
  16. I agree with suicidal turtle. Since I'm new to celiac disease, I've eaten at home a few times and then I'll just get something to drink at the restaurant. That way I don't risk being glutenized, but I also spend time with my family/friends. My family said that they enjoy my company at the restaurant even though I don't always eat with them. Jen
  17. Oops, I guess I posted that question in the wrong spot. Thanks guys for getting back to me on that. I feel so much pressure in my ears and have a sinus headache. I took some robitussin for sinus congestion and I'm relieved that it seems to be gluten-free! yay! It is helping a bit with my headache, but not with my ears. Jen
  18. Hey Janelson, I am sorry to hear you're dealing with all that. It sounds like you have your plate full with school, work, and contributing to the family. I don't know how you do it all! I was in a similar situation last spring and I know it's terrible to go through. I know being out sick can affect one's job performance, but I wouldn't think a boss...
  19. Hi everyone, Do you guys ever get lots of sinus pressure, ear aches, and headaches? I know that food allergies can bring this stuff on, so can celiac disease cause these symptoms too? Jen
  20. Danceswithwolves, I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling better. I'm pretty new to celiac disease too, and I am still adjusting to the diet. I took sudafed on Saturday and within 10 minutes I was very sick. It took me several days to get over it. I was taking a few different medicines before I was diagnosed with celiac disease: Nexium and Ciprofloaxin...
  21. I've also had aches and pains for the past few months. I've been gluten-free for about 2 weeks now and I've noticed a difference in how I feel. The aches and pains aren't as bad as they were. Maybe the diet will help your husband's pain. I've also had ear pain and sinus pressure. Has anyone else had that? Could that be related to celiac disease? ...
  22. Hi Kmroper, It is a blow to the ego, isn't it! It's too bad that more people don't understand celiac disease. I just found out I have it 2 weeks ago and most people don't seem to have a clue about it. They tend to think, "oh, so you just can't eat wheat". I wish it were that simple. It sounds like you're trying to educate your coworkers. That's a great...
  23. How about dove soap? Is it gluten-free? I tried looking on the delphi list and it hasn't been updated in a while. Jen
  24. And BEWARE the speedbar or soda fountain both are often contaminated. Use a canned gluten-free soda, not all are, or V8 or canned juice. Everyone is different but I would stay away from grain based anything to start. Okay, this is probably a dumb question, but I'm new to celiac disease. How can a soda fountain be contaminated? Jen
  25. Interesting idea, ravenwoodglass. I've thought about working out of the house too, as it is definitely an area of comfort for me. I'm glad that's working well for you. I would like to contribute financially at some point, but I think that healing is of most importance right now. My husband has been very supportive of this decision, so I am blessed. Once...
