  1. Hey guys, Zofran is gluten-free? Do you know of any other anti-nausea drugs which are gluten-free? Jen
  2. Would you guys mind sharing which bc pill you are on? I had a laparoscopy last May to have a cyst removed. I'm interested in going back on the pill to regulate my period, but I don't know which ones are gluten-free. Thanks, Jen
  3. Hey guys, That was me who posted about drinking liquids up until 4 hours before my procedure. I had my endoscopy at 2:30 in the afternoon, so I was allowed to drink clear liquids until 10:30 a.m. It's because it was a late appointment in the afternoon and the doctor didn't want me too dehydrated. Just out of curiosity, do you guys know if Gatorade is...
  4. Hey Stephanie, I was allowed to drink Gatorade to prepare for my colonscopy. It was before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, so I'm not even sure if it's gluten-free. I also drank chicken broth. My doctor gave me a list of clear liquids that I could drink until 4 hours before the procedure. Susan, I think you mentioned you live on Cape Cod...
  5. I just got back from a trip and brought lots of snacks. I get the Tempting Trail Mix from Trader Joes. It has almonds, peanuts, dried cherries, peanut butter morsels, and chocolate chips. Yum. also like apples with peanut butter. When I'm really hungry and need to eat something quick and easy, those both work well for me. Jen
  6. As for over the counter drugs, I know that the children's liquid claratin and Robitussin severe congestion gel caplets are both gluten-free. I'm not sure if your daughter has a cold, but these both helped me. Jen
  7. Hi Jen, I went to Chicago last weekend and wanted to thank you for your restaurant and supermarket advice! We stayed at the Swissotel and they had a refrigerator ready for me in the room. I stocked up at Whole Foods and we ate at P.F. Changs for lunch one day. I ate most meals on my own (mostly because I was nervous and it was my first trip with celiac...
  8. Hey Stephanie, This past May I found out I have endometriosis. My main symptoms were major cramping 2 weeks before my period, bloating, nausea, and bowel symptoms. Intercourse was also extremely painful. I had a laparoscopy performed (for a cyst which was enlarged) and my doctor noticed my endometriosis then. He cauterized (sp?) the areas,...
  9. Ravenwoodglass, that's funny you mentioned the soda fountain. When I go out to a local bar with my friends I usually get a sprite. Each time I come home with stomach pain. I never put it together. I kept mentioning it to my husband, but we both thought it was just coincidental. I'll have to bring my own from now on. Jen
  10. Thanks for the replies. Do you think am I unintentially glutening myself or is my body just taking time to heal? This is probably a dumb question, but why are the soda speed bars potentially harmful? Is it because other sodas have gluten in them and there can be cross contamination? Do you eventually get to a point where you feel healthy almost everyday...
  11. Can you eat salad? That seems to work well for me. I've also heard that exercise can help with constipation. Hope you're feeling better soon. Jen
  12. Thanks, Cleveland Bob. I have been so careful about reading labels I'm becoming paranoid. It took about a year for doctors to figure out my diagnosis, so I guess I can't expect my symptoms to go away overnight. I"m just glad to know that this is a normal part of the process. Jen
  13. Hi everyone, I found out I have celiac disease over a month ago. I've followed the gluten-free diet faithfully since then and I was feeling better after 2 weeks. I am starting to have stomach pain, nausea, brain fog, and exhaustion again and I was wondering if it is normal to have symptoms during the healing process? Did anyone begin to make progress...
  14. Thanks for writing back everyone. I went for a slow walk today with my dog and that did help to get my mind off how I was feeling for a while. Other than that I've been drinking water, ginger ale, and munching on some rice crackers. I'm not sure it was the soup broth because it says gluten free right on the box (imagine brand). I didn't use any flour...
  15. Thanks for getting back to me on that. I think it was the salad. I've been really careful about what I've been eating at home, but it is hard to know how something is prepared in a restaurant. Jen
  16. Hi, I'm still kind of new to the scene and think I was glutened last night. I ate a premade restaurant salad and some homemade chicken rice soup. I'm guessing I got glutened from the salad. Anyways, I feel sooooo nauseous, have a migraine, and have pain under my sternum which makes it hard to walk around and stand up. I"ve also visited the bathroom...
  17. Okay, probably a dumb question, but are Minute Rice and Perdue Chicken gluten-free? Perdue seems to be okay, but I'm not sure about Minute Rice. I had a gluten reaction last night and I'm trying to pinpoint what I got it from. I made chicken rice soup yesterday with Minute Rice, Perdue Fit and Easy chicken, celery, onions, and carrots. I picked up...
  18. Hey celiac3270, I'd love a copy of the restaurant file when you get a chance. jennifer_mark@hotmail.com Thanks! Jen
  19. Hey Lena, I'm so sorry you're dealing with all this and I understand your frustration. It took my doctors about a year to discover that my illness was because of celiac disease. I had every test in the book performed, sometimes twice! Is the CT scan when you have dye injected into you and x-rays are taken? I think I had that one done, twice. It wasn...
  20. Hi Pixiegirl, I have a few emails from the Cape support group leader that I can forward to you if you want. What's your email address? If you email the group leader she'll add you to the correspondence list. Her name is Margo Finnell and her email address is margo820@juno.com. The next meeting is on September 25th from 12:30-3 at Christ the King church...
  21. Hey Pixiegirl, Dr. Kathleen Koehler is my GI doctor. She's right in Hyannis. I like her a lot, but she is often quite busy and it can be hard getting an appointment with her. My GP is Maureen Kelleher. She's in Yarmouthport. I haven't been to see her yet, but she has a subspecialty in GI medicine. I got an email from the support group leader...
  22. Hey Max, Thanks for getting back to me on the GI doctor in Boston. I have heard great things about Dr. Kelly and the Celiac Center. I found a GI doctor on the Cape and went to see a nutritionist too. I'm going to see how that goes for a while. Jen
  23. Hey cgilsing, Did you take Lupron to help your endometriosis? My gyn recommended that for me, but I was weary about the whole "menopause" thing. How did it work for you? Jen
  24. Hi Mahee, I had those same symptoms this past year. Before I was diagnosed with celiac disease, I had an ovarian cyst which needed to be removed. While the doctor performed the surgery, he discovered I had endometriosis. I was getting terrible cramps during my period, headaches, backaches, and intercourse was pretty painful. Since the surgery, some...
  25. Hi Susan, I think you're right...it is a catch 22. You'd think that most bosses would appreciate knowing what an employee is going through and that they'd be sympathetic to their medical issues. However, we're talking about the world of work. As I was growing up my dad always used to tell me, "There's no sentiment in business". He's a mediator and deals...
