ARCHIVED Getting Confused
Lisa replied to trayne91's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I really don't think that a person can be "dumped" for a preexisting condition. -

ARCHIVED Labeling Laws For Drugs Are Almost A Reality.
Lisa posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Open Original Shared Link Ohio Congressman Tim Ryan and New York Congresswoman Nita Lowey have introduced legislation that will require drug manufacturers to label the source of drugs' inactive ingredients. This is huge! To move the bill ahead we need bipartisan cosponsors by May 8! All five of the national celiac organizations are united in support... -

ARCHIVED Hello Fellow Celiacs
Lisa replied to Gf Princess182's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I generally don't have a problem day to day. I can always find "something" in a restaurant to eat. Do you work or are you at home? -

ARCHIVED Biopsy Indicates Beginning Stages... Doc Says No
Lisa replied to PossiblyCeliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm with you there!!!! And yes, he ordered one test, that was not specific to Celiac. If you are not yet, gluten free, he can run the tests again using the full panel. If not, you can opt to go fully gluten free and see if you symptoms subside. It does take time though, depending on the level of damage. And further testing cannot be accurate with gluten... -

ARCHIVED Newbie On A Rollercoaster
Lisa replied to jigsawfallingintoplace's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome Jig! First of all I would recommend keeping a food journal, to include vitamins, meds, lotions or anything that could pass your mouth. Let me suggest that you give up all dairy products for at least 30 days. Sometimes, when you remove one element, you hear other voices. And many times you can add dairy products into your diet successfully... -

ARCHIVED Peanut Butter
Lisa replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You might not ever know. But, it might be a good idea to keep a food journal. It's makes it easier to identify an issue. It's easy to equate all our issues to gluten. And I think your symptom was heartburn. Some foods did not agree with me before I had Celiac symptoms. It could happen with many things to include an unhealed gut. -

Possible that someone in your home double dipped? And in the beginning, many foods can bother us, regardless of their gluten free status, until some healing can take place. -

ARCHIVED Biopsy Indicates Beginning Stages... Doc Says No
Lisa replied to PossiblyCeliac?'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Silly Doctor! The following are the celiac specific blood tests: Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgA Anti-Gliadin (AGA) IgG Anti-Endomysial (EMA) IgA Anti-Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA Deamidated Gliadin Peptide (DGP) IgA and IgG Total Serum IgA -
Your body was in the starvation mode while you were sick. So, it's over compensating now. It should settle down. And be careful of gluten free processed foods, cause their really high in calories.

ARCHIVED In Need Of Advice
Lisa replied to patz16's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hello and Welcome! If you have a family history of Celiac and a positve response to the diet,it's likely you have Celiac Disease of a Gluten Sensitivity. To be tested, it's recommended that a person consume gluten for three months to get the tested. Do you want to do that? It's a personal choice. Not too much help, am I? -

ARCHIVED Laxatives As A Good Way To Reduce Effects Of Gluten
Lisa replied to Conal's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My exposure hits me about 24 hour later. Instead of laxatives, I would suggest lots of water. 75% of the water we intake is absorbed in the small intestines. When it's compromised....well, you know the story...drink more water. SO we all need to drink lots of water. -

ARCHIVED Mcdonalds Fries
Lisa replied to ashesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, it's true. But the wheat in the starting ingredient has been soooooo very processed that it's rendered gluten free. In an effort of full disclosure, McD's has been honorable. The fries have been tested to be below the level that Celiacs can safely consume. -

ARCHIVED Anyone Have Trouble With Probiotics?
Lisa replied to nursenation2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
When first diagnosed, I tried probiotic and it did not settle with me well. My pro biotics had dairy. I stopped it for a month and found one which did not contain dairy and continued with no issue. I assume you have checked you meds. Even generics change frequently. But, as we all know, not all roads lead to gluten. -

ARCHIVED Grits
Lisa replied to Mnicole1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Grits are processed from corn, which would be gluten free. There may be an issue for some people with Celiac who are very sensitive, as there may be some contamination from the crop processing. There are some grits that are Gluten-Free Certified (i.e. tested) -

ARCHIVED Hello Fellow Celiacs
Lisa replied to Gf Princess182's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Welcome Princess! I was home bound for several months and was scheduled to see a GI, who diagnosed me through endoscopy. It was a relief to find Celiac and not the dreaded "cancer" word. I came home and did a search and found this place. I've settled in. -

ARCHIVED Mcdonalds Fries
Lisa replied to ashesmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Glad to know that her levels are down...that's a good thing. McDonald's fries have been independently test, and concluded that they are safe to consume for those who have Celiac Disease. This is the most discussed topic on this Forum. Some eat them, some don't. I eat them from time to time and have had no issue. -
