  1. I spotted these chocolate sandwich cookie type things at the organic food store today, says they are gluten-free. I'm just wondering if they are any good. Can't remember the brand name, sorry. I sorta wanted to try them, but if they are going to ruin the memory of Oreos for the rest of my life, forget it! LOL
  2. Ahh, I knew they were Pringles, I was so sad to read wheat flour on the label and I totally pigged out on them while I was eating normally and waiting for my scope. I want to try Lays Stax but the plain kind always seem to be sold out around here. I know how hard it is at work. I work 12 hour shifts, I don't normally eat on nights, but on days, I have...
  3. Aww Karen, that sucks! I know it's *her* birthday, but it would be nice if she picked a place you could eat. Then again, when I was 14, I'd have picked a place my mom hated on purpose just so she wouldn't go and "embarrass" me, lol!!! Now that I am a mom myself, I finally get it, that the kids birthdays are as important to us as they are to them! Frankly...
  4. I am a neonatal nurse and I have never heard of such a thing. You don't "catch" celiac disease, seems very odd to me, though I admit very freely I am not an expert! I BF both my kids pre-dx, waiting to see if they are affected. If they are, I'm sure it has much more to do with the funky gene we have in my family rather than BF! I'm a big advocate of...
  5. WOW!!! I didn't know there was such a thing! I will definitely check it out. I've been in church twice since I was dx 3 weeks ago and it is breaking my heart that I can't participate. I just went to the rail and kept my hands folded, and cried while the minister gave me a blessing, then took the wine. Once our church (Anglican) gets a new minister...
  6. Blah! That is horrible! Cherub itself is kind of cute, but in reference to your wt, how insulting!! Yeah, call her old lady or something and see how she likes it!
  7. I do have one question though. I know that there are alot of places out there that do scholarships for disabilities. Do any of you know of any? One thing that I have noticed is the cost of the things that she can eat. It is hard being apart and not being able to help her (due to that I am in New York and she is in Idaho). I thought that joining here...
  8. I am currently the only one gluten-free in my house, and it will probably stay like that unless I start getting hyper-sensitive or something. Gluten may not be good for me, but for other people, grains have a lot of excellent nutritional value and I don't think it's fair to expect them to give it up. It's my diet, not theirs. However, I don't cook 2 meals...
  9. Your BF's attitude is annoying at best, cruel at worst! Enough said about that! How do I stick to the diet, well, it's only been a few weeks for me, and it is really hard but basically I do it because it's what my body needs. I just want to be around to enjoy a long and healthy life. I have no GI symptoms, so I have always felt great, so it would be...
  10. I don't have any reactions either, so like you, not a clue if I've eaten the stuff or not, though I am earnestly trying to live gluten-free. I'd be the last person here to tell you off for "cheating", I fight with myself every day to stay away from the stuff! ((hugs)) My GI told me I could have another scope in about 2 years if I wanted, to just to see...
  11. Well, my reply to "what happens if you eat it" is "nothing" (true, in my case), which is followed by "then why be on the diet", which is followed by me saying that I'm just not interested in being a crippled old lady from osteoporosis having the nurses in the nursing home change my colostomy bag because I would up with bowel cancer...................... ...
  12. What a harrowing experience, yikes! Well, even though they were totally freaking out about getting blood work, it's nice to know you have healthy kids who have no idea what blood work is! Should be about 2 weeks now until I know the results. My 5 year old displays some symptoms, my 7 year old displays none. My sister and I both have Celiac, so part of...
  13. I can relate in many ways to losing the attraction, it just hasn't happened yet for me with food, lol!! I became allergic to animals as a teen, even though I grew up in a house with both a cat and a dog. I was horrified at my inflamed arms when I got skin tested for my allergies, and I was thinking no way would I be able to live my life without pets. ...
  14. Well, while I am sorry to hear your DD has celiac disease, I do hope that the gluten-free diet will help her feel better soon. I like cooking too, and I have seldom relied on packaged/processed type foods. I've always prepared fresh veggies at dinner and cook and season my own meats, so dinner is actually a snap for me because it has been mostly gluten...
  15. OMG Stephanie! That is horrible! Can't help but lol, but I really feel your pain! What is up with mothers?? I'm sure I will never be like that with my kids
  16. OK, most of you are probably going to think I'm insane, but it is driving me nuts that my mother calls me "a celiac". I wish she would say I *have* celiac! I feel like she is calling me a disease, and the last time I checked, I was still a person. Honestly, I don't know why this is bugging me so much. When my sis was diagnosed last winter my mom kept...
  17. OK, I'm gonna die if someone says chapstick has gluten in it! I am addicted to chapstick, it's so dry in the hospital where I work I feel like my lips will fall right off!
  18. LOL! I think of M&M's as an inferior cousin to Smarties, but since my Smartie days are over, I'm going crazy over chocolate M&M's, not to mention Rolo and Curly Wurly! Then again, chocolate always a good substitute for sex, lol!!!
  19. Jackie, I for one was not offended. I see from your other posts that you are young, and have probably lived with this for most of your life. In a way, you are lucky because you don't know any different way to eat. I'm not saying you are lucky to have celiac disease, because it must be hard for a teenager at times to be different. I'm sure there are...
  20. Hi Lisa, My doctor told me the minute I was conscious that my bowel looked like classic Celiac Disease. In fact, he said the pictures were so good he was going to use them for teaching! And he gave me a copy of my pics, hmmm, not sure I needed that, lol!! Anyhow, when he called me with the pathology, I had complete villous atrophy, so I was very severe...
  21. I had a positive antiendomysial antibody. He told me right after my scope I had classic celiac disease bowel changes. I've been gluten-free for 2 weeks now. He just called me with my pathology and I have complete vilious atrophy. So why do I feel like I've been hit over the head with a 2x4????
  22. Thanks everyone! I've never had any problem with MSG myself, then again, never had any problem with gluten either...... I get thrown by things like "hydrogenated vegetable oil" and stuff like that. You are all helping me learn! Thank God for this place!
  23. Just wondering if the Old El Paso taco seasoning (powder) is gluten-free? I read the label, I *think* it's ok, just wondering if anyone had any experience with it. Burritos have been a quick fave for our family for awhile, and it would be nice to know I could still have it with corn flour tacos or something!
  24. The best thing to do is to find someone who cares for you, respects you, and makes efforts to understand your condition. If it so happens that he also has celiac disease, I guess that is a bonus since you would share that lifestyle in common. However, there is a world of wonderful people out there and I would not exclude a guy just because he does not have...
  25. i'm kind of ashamed of myself for this post. but there you have it, folks. celiac so far is bringing out the worst in me. i have a picture in my head of what acceptance of it will look like, but i am just not there yet. i'm sure it will come. I feel a lot of shame too, for feeling sorry for myself. You're dx was only a couple of weeks ahead of mine...
