  1. It depends on the source. If the label does not specify the source (ie, corn/soy/wheat), then you need to stay away. Miracle Whip, for instance, is a Kraft product, and Kraft is one of the companies that will clearly state the source of the starch. It's kind of confusing, I know. Visit company websites and send e-mails or make phone calls. I have had...
  2. No, but they tend to be gluten-free for me Actually, my kids eat a lot of gluten-free stuff around here because I try to only cook one meal at dinner time so we all eat gluten-free for that meal. The exception is pasta, I cook them regular and me gluten-free mostly cuz it's just so freaking expensive. I have to literally pry the gluten-free chocolate...
  3. Your BIL is a pill!!! He has obviously made no effort to understand this disease! Why does he want your son to be sick?? Jeesh! I'd either have a talk with him, or just don't invite him next time! Hugs to both you and your son. I've only been on this diet less than 2 months, and it can be hard/depressing enough without a bunch of insensitive comments...
  4. You know, I really haven't found willpower to be much of a problem, much to my surprise! I've tried the old weight loss diets before and I never got very far because I just had zero willpower. But with this, I just think "I can't have it", and it's over. It's not that I don't ever see/smell food that I'd like to eat, because several times a day I think...
  5. Wow, you must really like this girl! She is so lucky that you are taking her condition seriously. My BF is very supportive as well and it means a lot to me. Good tips from Katie above. As well, don't be afraid to ask her what she can have or not have, and if it's a not, just ask if there is a substitution you should get, or if you should just try...
  6. Just wanted to add, when they say "I'd die if I couldn't eat wheat", just say, "yeah, you probably would, you aren't as tough as me" Actually, I've had a lot of my adult friends say stuff like "I'd die", and I just say "no you wouldn't". lol
  7. Blech! Well, that just confirms my belief that kids are cruel! I don't mean "kid" as in little kid, I know you are a teenager, teenagers are probably the worst. I still remember some of the cruel things said to me during those years. Like the previous poster said, feel sorry for that girl because she obviously has no manners. I have no idea what she...
  8. I always buy VH here in Canada. I bought it even before I had celiac disease, I didn't know there was a difference. I also have some Tamari on hand that I use when my sis is here because it is gluten-free and also she needs organic. VH has a lot of gluten-free stuff, which is great for me because it's similar in price to "regular" soy sauces and stuff...

  10. I'm sure what a clomid challenge is, but clomid is a drug used for primary infertility. Which means, it's a drug that stimulates ovulation. If you any type of infertility, this is actually the best kind to have because the treatment is pretty straight forward. My cycles were always really irregular, my u/s showed healthy anatomy and eggs in my ovaries...
  11. I agree with the other posters. You are being abused in your job, and that is against the law. Your boss sounds like a prick, it's not your fault you are sick. While I can appreciate you may not want to work with these people, letting them force you out because you are ill is just so wrong on so many levels. I can understand you are probably tired of...
  12. If this stuff works, I'll meet you at the local pizza joint to celebrate! LOL
  13. Wow! You are just like me and my sister, except it was my sis who was Dx first and I got screened and have it too. Personally, I'm a little suspicious that she is very happy I have it too, cuz now she's not the only one swimming in the shallow end of the gene pool!!! I have to admit I was a tad pissed at her (totally irrational I know), because she seems...
  14. I'm with you! Wish I could be a study candidate!
  15. Smarties in Canada are not gluten-free. It states wheat flour clearly right on the box. Smarteis are a totally different candy here, candy coated chocolates similar to M&M's only better, lol.
  16. It does sound like a gluten exposure, but don't torture yourself because diarrhea can be caused by things other than celiac disease. I find now if I get the slightest big gassy, I'm thinking immediately, "oh, that must be celiac disease, I must have eaten something with gluten by mistake", then review what I have had and know I have not eaten anything wrong...
  17. Awww ((hugs)), I know just how you feel. I think sugar cookie dough is the best cookie dough on the planet! I will probably have to make sugar cookies at Christmas cuz my kids love them. It will be torture! If I'm gonna have a weak moment and cheat, the sugar cookie dough will do me in! The fish fry I can live without, lol, never did like fish!
  18. I have seen it at Safeway (Canada), and I have also seen it at my local organic food market. In fact, I got some fettucine there today!
  19. LOL!! I like the way you think, Girl!!!!
  20. Wow Scott, thanks for that! Here I have been overwrought with guilt that I can't afford to go out and replace everything I cook with and thinking that if my next scope isn't better I have no one to blame but myself! However, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt to those individuals who are at the extreme end of sensitivity and find they are better...
  21. I only get to pick 3???????? Hmmmmmmmmm........... 1) A hamburger at Peter's Drive-In 2) My mom's home-made dinner buns 3) Turkey with real bread stuffing and full flour gravy! That was just the main course, lol.....dessert now....... 1) Home made chocolate cake, my Grandma's recipe 2) Smarties!!! And I will eat the red ones last! 3)Sugar cookie...
  22. Just wanted to say your new pic is very cute!!
  23. No, I've had pretty good luck with rice pasta so far. It was a corn pasta, it was just .....ICK! I didn't rinse it though, maybe that would help...
  24. It does sound like there is something gluten related going on with you, although whether it is celiac disease, wheat intolerance or allergy does not seem to be clear. If you feel better, I'd stick with it! I can't comment a lot on the low-carb diets, as I have never been on one, but from what I understand, Atkins advocated extremely low carbs in all forms...
  25. I have only tried cooking corn pasta once, the texture went all weird on me. It was like eating furry macaroni, yuck! I did throw some brown rice pasta shells into a casserole I make and they were totally yummy, I couldn't tell the difference. So far I have been chicken to try just eating gluten-free pasta on it's own (like spag and sauce etc). I'm probably...
