  1. I like the Nature's Path cornflakes myself. I buy them in the box because on the bag it says they are processed in a plant that contains wheat, but the boxed one doesn't say that. I have no idea what that is all about, but I'm the only one who eats them anyhow so the bag would probably get kinda stale before I ate it all anyhow. I make Kinnickinnik...
  2. Well, I guess positive for the most part, because there are far worse things a person could have, in my humble opinion. However, would I say haveing celiac disease is a "positive" aspect in my life??? Not really, no. I have no symptoms, so I could be killing myself with hidden gluten and not even know it. I don't feel particularily thrilled to have celiac...
  3. I use Tamari when cooking for my sister because it's organic and gluten-free (she has multiple allergies as well as celiac disease). Cooking for myself, I use VH because it is gluten-free and cheaper!
  4. According to the Canadian gluten-free products list: "Although many of their products do not contain gluten added glutens, Schneiders does not have gluten free production facilities. In all Schneiders products: starch or modified starch is corn starch, any other starch will be declared by it's sourc (ie) potato starch".
  5. Gravy is a cinch to make from scratch. While your turkey cooks, combine 4 cups of water, about a tsp of salt, 4 whole cloves, 2 stalks of celery coarsley chopped, 1 onion coarsley chopped, and toss in the turkey giblets except for the liver. Bring it to a boil and let it boil gently for 40 min. Toss in the liver and boil for another 20 min. Then strain...
  6. Ummm, well, it would probably be more accurate to say I collect scrapbooking supplies, because I never seem to have time to actually do much scrapbooking. But, it's been a busy year with the divorce, selling the house, moving, blah blah blah, I'm hoping to get back into it soon! So far most of my SB stuff is still upstairs in boxes from the move!
  7. I would do it in a second, but I've only been gluten-free for not even 3 months yet. Get paid to take a pill and eat a burger, sounds too good to be true!
  8. Ok, here's my bio. I'm Lori, I'm 36, and I think the fact that I have celiac disease is probably the least interesting thing about me! I have never been sick with celiac disease, kind of a long story about my Dx that most of you have heard already. Anyhow, I am separated now for about a year and a half, hoping to be divorced soon. I have 2 fabulous daughters...
  9. I had pretty good luck with Kinnikinnick Italian White bread at Thanksgiving this year. It is a bit grainer/coarser than regular bread, but the flavour was just fine. Good luck!
  10. George, it's too bad to hear your friends are not being terribly supportive. I have had a lot of support from my friends, but being a nurse, most of my buddies are also nurses or other health-care professionals, so they ask intelligent questions, are sincere about wanting to understand better, and definitely realize that eating gluten *will* make me ill...
  11. I was 35, almost 36 when I was diagnosed the end of August. Who knows, I might have gone my whole life and never known I had it if my sister hadn't fallen on the ice last winter and broken her hip! I haven't been sick a day in my life with it. Guess I'm lucky.
  12. I got some info online that says Campbells Chicken and rice is gluten-free, I've been getting that. That is a Canadian site, might be different formulation in the US.
  13. I saw that, but the way I read it, it looks like that is just the smootie??? I guess there is a risk of contamination in the blenders, CRAP! Guess I could beg for a clean blender, though............. I go to Market Mall all the time, I'll tell them "I know Rusla", lol.
  14. Jackie, I visited the website and got a list of gluten-free stuff. I noticed one box I bought at Safeway said gluten-free on the back of it, but I haven't seen that label since. I eat a lot of Thai Kitchen because it is a total lifesaver when I'm at work and short on stuff to pack. I get heartburn from spicy food, but I find the spring onion and the mushroom...
  15. OK, so I am thinking that it looks like it is okay?? I don't get smoothies, I only really like the regular OJ. Artificial flavours are ok, right??
  16. If you are expecting more testing, or if you are wanting a small bowel biopsy to be sure of your dx, it is important that you continue to eat gluten during the testing phase. Some people are *very* sick and I can completely understand why they don't want to continue to eat gluten. However, if you can stick it out for a little longer, you will have more...
  17. Let me know if you can get Anna's up here! I have not ventured much into the world of bread, I just find it sort of, well, scary looking! I have not bought any of the Lakeview Bakery bread, but I did use some Kinnikinnick in my Thanksgiving stuffing. It was good as stuffing, but I tried some "plain" and found the texture sort of rubbery. My local Co-Op...
  18. Claire, try this link as well. Sorry I couldn't seem to cut and paste the pdf format, so here it is in html. Open Original Shared Link It is very recent, October 2005
  19. Please read the following abstract. Open Original Shared Link The EMA has a higher specificity than the TTg. In other words, a positive EMA can really only be celiac disease. A positive TTg is 92% specific for celiac disease, but can be indicitive of other diseases such as Crohn's. As for me, I only had a EMA test done, which was + and verified on...
  20. I took my kids for an OJ, and just out of curiosity, I asked the lady working there if the original OJ is gluten-free. She gave me an ingredients list, which basically stated they are made out of whole milk and whole egg powder with orange juice etc. Just then another employee comes out from the back and asks what I am asking about and I tell her gluten...
  21. Thanks everyone. Skoki-mom - so can you feel it when you get glutened now? I couldnt' tell your your note - sorry. Just so confused at this point. p.s. sorry I reread your note and see you didn't have a symptom from the cake batter. Thanks! <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
  22. I am like you, no GI symptoms at all. I accidentally licked cake batter off the side of my hand a few days ago (baking cupcakes to send to my kids schools for Halloween). As soon as the taste hit my tongue I freaked, I was so mad at myself for making such a rookie mistake! Really, it was just one of those absent-minded things I've been doing for so long...
  23. BB, I'm a nurse, Rachel is right, it means rule out. Basically, it's a term used for differential diagnosis when you are under investigation. If results are negative, we will say "Celiac disease has been ruled out", however you must keep in mind that your biopsy results could be erroneous if you have been gluten-free.

    ARCHIVED Ironic

I can understand your disappointment at not having an answer. You do deserve to know what is making you feel unwell, at least then you would have a better chance of treating it most effectively. Sorry it wasn't what you hoped for.
  25. I can send you an awesome brownie recipe if you like! It's actually the recipe for my favourite non-gluten-free brownies, you just substitute the graham wafer crumbs. I used Kinnikinnick graham wafer style crumbs and they were awesome!
