ARCHIVED Blood Test Positive...biopsy Negative.
0range replied to MollyBrack's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Many doctors are very deficient in their knowledge about autoimmune disorders, not just celiac. Hasn't it been uniformly agreed upon that it isn't an allergy or an intolerance? Strikes me as so odd that specialists would not know this. -
ARCHIVED Accepting My Ibs Diagnosis, Odd Symptoms That Don't "fit" Anywhere
0range replied to 0range's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My dad recently had an endoscopy of his stomach, since he has intestinal metaplasia. Because he does not have a h.Pylori infection doctors are predicting that this may morph into autoimmune atrophic gastritis this makes for 3 AI diseases. I think they also looked at his duodenum and according to the reports it looked normal. Not sure if they took any biopsies... -

I really appreciate this everyone. Thank you so much for your advice. I will push for an endoscopy before starting the gluten-free diet and if it isn't possible I will start it regardless. -

Thank you so much for typing up the reply. You have put together what I have been feeling so well. Most of the frustration comes from the fact that it would be difficult to tell a layperson, and family members that the diet needs to be taken seriously without a doctor's note saying so. My mom (who has no autoimmune issues) thinks eating bread is fantastic... -

This is going to sound silly, but sometimes I wonder if wheat is my only issue and not gluten as a whole. I don't seem to 'notice' small amounts of gluten, but I don't know if it's because I'm feeling crappy in general so trace amounts don't really make a difference or not lol. -

Thank you, thank you so much. Other than the endoscopy, are there any other tests that they usually do (blood test wise)? I will look into ordering the gene test, as you said it does indeed answer a piece of the puzzle! -

Thanks so much. I'm guessing it isn't normally done? Unless they suspect absorption issues such as celiac? Just got my Vit D result back.. am deficient but I think so are most Canadians XD Here are my celiac test results (reference range in brackets): Ttg-IgA: 3 u/mL. Negative. (0 - 3: negative, 4 - 10: weak positive, >10: positive) Immunoglobulin... -

Thank you so much for all the resources - greatly appreciated! Yes I wish they did but I think most doctors are of the opinion that if your blood test is not positive, there is no need to get it done - so I was only able to get the colonoscopy procedure. I had some signs of IBD, minus the abdominal pain (blood in stool, with fever and joint pain) but my... -

Thanks so much nvsmom! Yes I'm a strange one! Even when my TSH was >100 I didn't realize something was "seriously" wrong. I was just sleeping 12 hours a day, and gaining some weight on my cheeks.. but I thought that was just me being a university student! Some people told me that if their TSH is even slightly above the maximum lab range, they are not able... -

Thank you so much for the replies everyone! I hope to reply everyone individually once I get to the computer. My dad has intestinal metaplasia in his stomach after years of gut issues starting in childhood. We are just monitoring it at this time. Is there a connection between metaplasia and celiac? I don't think he has gotten the testing done or had samples... -

That's interesting because I've had dry eyes for quite a few months! Not a listed symptom because I thought it was thyroid related. Mouth isn't exceptionally dry, but yes, I do worry that I may have 'set off' another autoimmune disease unknowingly and doctors aren't really looking into it. My dad has Hashimoto's, along with pernicious anemia, and the latter... -
Hi everyone. The doctors' office told me today that my blood test for celiac was negative. Two of my doctors recommended me to do the test, but it looks like that wasn't the answer to what is going on. I don't have the results on me, but hope to post once I get them. At this point I've slowly begun to accept my 'undiagnosis' of IBS by my doctor, and will...

ARCHIVED H. Pylori?
0range replied to 0range's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh my! That sounds so painful! I'm glad there was no recurrent infection. Were you able to get rid of the ulcers that occurred later? I honestly would have had no idea to check for H.Pylori, the gastroenterologist decided to do it along with the celiac testing and colonoscopy. I hope it fixes these stomach issues once and for all cross fingers. -
Hi everyone! I did my colonoscopy this morning... no sign of serious inflammatory bowel disease (hooray!), although there was mild inflammation where my small intestine ends and my large intestine begins. Biopsy results in 10 days. I did a celiac blood panel test, but that will take a while to come back. Buuuut. There may be something else causing my symptoms...

Hi everyone! I've noticed a strange symptom: the last few times I have had dairy, I get joint pain. Normally I avoid dairy as I am lactose-intolerant, but have the occasional slip-up. I noticed when I had dessert with some ice-cream the other day, my knees were very sore. And then last night, I had to have a pill to induce bowel movements for my colonoscopy...

ARCHIVED Literally Too Tired To Wait Any Longer - Help?
0range replied to tinylittlepotofjelly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you gotten tested for thyroid disease? The puffy face, inability to regulate body temperature, etc really stood out to me because these are hallmark thyroid disease symptoms and are what I suffered from before being diagnosed. Look into that along with celiac. -
Hi Chris. It's great that you're feeling better and dropping by to help people like me! I know what it's like reading about your symptoms/diagnosis all the time... when I was first dx with visual snow, I subscribed to the Facebook group and wanted to learn everything about it. Eventually I knew I wasn't going to find any answers (the cause of the symptom...

ARCHIVED New Here. Should I Get Tested Or Am I Barking Up The Wrong Tree?
0range replied to AnyaT's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi OP! Sorry to hear about what you are going through. I have nearly all of your symptoms as well, and thought I might throw it out there that it wouldn't hurt to be tested for thyroid disease while you are at it. Ask your doctor for thyroid antibodies test, TSH, free T3 and free T4. -
ARCHIVED Could I Ask Some Advice On Being Invited To A New Friend's House For Dinner?
0range replied to BelleVie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If you explain it as an allergy if they are unable to "get it" the first time, that helps! With an intolerance (or even the most appropriate definition of an "immune reaction") there is a bit of leeway meaning that you 'should' be able to taste at least a 'little bit'. Best of luck, relax and have fun! -
ARCHIVED Blood Tests Came Back Negative
0range replied to Soccer-Mom2405's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have IBS, too! Is it possible you are having a false negative result? A biopsy would be worth pursuing in that case. Ts there anyone else in your family with celiac disease? The possibility of non-celiac gluten sensitivity is also a reality. I'm also getting tested for IBD as the symptoms overlap with celiac. -
Oh this is wonderful! You have a gift! You ought to publish this in more places. Brilliant work. Reminds me of when I used to write poetry.. it's been a few years! Here's my ode to some naturally gluten-free salmon! Open Original Shared Link

This is a terrible idea lol but you should "sneak" in a delicious gluten-free treat (masqueraded as gluten) and then after they comment on how delicious it is tell them that it is in fact gluten-free. xD Sometimes we can have subtle biases. Since I did not grow up eating pork (and actually grew up in a Muslim family, so we weren't even really "allowed" to...

*hugs hugs hugs* I know how you feel. While I don't have celiac, I know what it is like having a chronic illness in your 20s. I was diagnosed with "Hashimoto's thyroiditis" an autoimmune thyroid disease. I am 23 and attending university (I had to take a few years off to recover from being sick all the time). Very few people take you seriously. I have often...
