  1. No problem! Regarding the UTI's: I know this is anecdotal evidence, but many women with Hashi's report having recurrent UTI's before their diagnosis. I have had 2 (once before my dx and one after) and hopefully never again! I'm really sorry to hear that you are getting them often. Could your recurrent ones be related to any of these factors?: Open Original...
  2. Those sounds like a lot of my symptoms! I was dx with "IBS" (which is an umbrella diagnosis for there is something wrong with your gut but we don't know what ). With gut symptoms - it really could be anything... from food intolerances to celiac to IBD to too much 'bad' bacteria in your gut. Peeing a lot (or being too thirsty) as well as having very dry skin...
  3. Can you post the lab ranges? They will be next to your results TSH can fluctuate even in healthy people, and it is generally not the greatest indicator of what is going on with your thyroid (as it is a pituitary gland hormone). I would suggest doing an antibodies test (anti-TPO & TgAB). Occasionally, even people whose labs are 'in range' and by all...
  4. Really? Didn't know that I heard from a person working at one agency that hypothyroidism doesn't really alter your insurance rate, provided there are no complications from it. Noooo! I can't believe this is how it works in the states.
  5. Here's a list of foods that are high in magnesium: Open Original Shared Link Here is a comprehensive list of thyroid blood tests you can request: Open Original Shared Link Please take this with a grain of salt as I'm not a medical professional, but I would recommend requesting these 4 if you're unable to get all of the above tests done and strongly...
  6. Thanks! Me too! If I find out anything while I'm there I'll definitely post an update =)
  7. So many excellent tips! I have to +1 exercise. Especially canoeing (I'm being biased...). It releases endorphins (so makes you happy) so theres that too!
  8. Let me know if you need any help with the Low FODMAP diet at all! I have some recipes and advice I can share :-)
  9. Go to Northern Canada (I live in southern ON) and watch the aurora borealis
  10. Thank you so much for the detailed reply! My dad lives abroad in the Middle East, and I am flying to see him in a few days, so I will be sure to bring this sheet with me when we go his doctor there. Hopefully we can both get tested.
  11. I was going to echo this. Some of us just like to 'lay low' :=) either we're introverts, generally have low energy/get tired easily or a combination of these things. Maybe your boyfriend is one of those people? Is there a fun activity you can do at home? Maybe make cooking an activity. Make some delicious hot chocolate and watch a romantic movie together...
  12. That is great to hear! I think it's natural to not accept that there is something going seriously wrong in your body, and the initial reaction for some of us is to just run away from it. I'm glad that he has such a supportive sister to help him out.
  13. Best of luck to you! How did it go?
  14. My lactose-intolerance came on at age 12. I used to have milk and cereal for breakfast every morning (as I had done as a kid), and remember just having the absolute worst gas / foul-smelling stool that year. It was so bad I remember my dad going into the washroom after me and just running right back out! haha, pretty funny now that I think about it. I went...
  15. Used to drink pretty frequently (your typical university student ) 2-3 years ago, but not anymore! Now I just get dizzy after drinking a sip, for some reason. So I just have virgin versions of my favourite drinks. Haven't had any since January 2013.
  16. I love non-fiction (any book that provides an opportunity to learn about something new!). I'm currently reading "What a Plant Knows" by Daniel Chamovitz: Open Original Shared Link
  17. I was going to echo this. If your thyroid is removed (completely) the autoimmune disease, Hashimoto's, will be gone as there is no thyroid left for it to attack. However, the hypothyroidism will not resolve since your body has no thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormone. Usually, the small subset of people that are able to reverse their Hashi's - it is very...
  18. Hi everyone. Here's my story. It's a long one, so please bear with me! I really want to encourage my dad to get tested for celiac. I don't know why he has never been tested before (he has visited several gastroenterologists and has had good medical care), so I feel like a wise-ass almost! by encouraging him to get tested. He has had Hashimoto's thyroiditis...
  19. So I'm replying to a really old post! :-) But I'm guessing other people may have a similar or the same question. If I'm not wrong, Palafer (the syrup) contains 'caramel flavour' as one of the ingredients. This is an ingredient that should be dubious for any Celiac - and since they don't have a straightforward answer as to where they source it from, it may...
