ARCHIVED What Questions Should I Be Asking?
mommy2krj replied to momto3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
False negatives for Celiac run really high in children so young. I would ask them to A) Give you a copy of the tests they've already run. Doctors...for whatever insane reason...don't always (or rarely I've found) run the full Celiac panel. If they've only run two tests...they haven't run them all. Someone much more familiar with all of this than I am... -

We're in the same boat here except mine is going into 1st grade and is my least picky eater. We haven't done gluten free at school yet...and really we're not even a week into this yet..... My little guy loves corn tortillas (thankfully!) so any sandwich type stuff he would have eaten on bread just goes into the tortillas. Beyond that he usually eats fruits... -

Given that extra bit of information and knowing that not all GI docs are knowledgeable in Celiac (for whatever insane reason!!!) I would go ahead and go gluten free as a household. I think the only consideration here is if you need the endoscopy or just a diagnosis for when school starts. Have your older kids been tested for Celiac? Besides the genetic... -

Glad her numbers are doing better! I hate...hate...HATE talking about my kids like they aren't sitting right next to me! I wish there was a way they could make it so you could meet with the doctor, express your concerns one on one and then bring the child in to have them join in the conversation (age appropriate of course) but of course that would just... -

ARCHIVED Hello - New To The Board
mommy2krj replied to lcole's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hello, welcome and big hugs! Good to have answers so you have a good direction to go in. We're new in the Celiac boat too and the people here are so incredibly informative and helpful (more so than most doctors!!!) Feel free to ask questions and I bet there will be someone who comes along that has been in that boat and can give you all sorts of good information... -
ARCHIVED Waiting On Celiac Panel Results
mommy2krj replied to LoveMyDucklings's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah and he so wants a cat (which wouldn't happen anyway as his dad is allergic to them and so is his sister!) so he colored a picture of a cat at school and asked me to hang it on the wall where he can reach so he can pet his pet cat. We have a dog...but he hasn't had any problems with them, thankfully. Just cats and trees....and now gluten. I really... -
ARCHIVED I Just Wanted To Give A Shout Out To My Daughter's Boyfriend...
mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Also wanted to say...I'm glad everyone is feeling better in your house with the gluten free. It amazes me how very different all the symptoms can be and how spotty the testing seems to be! Gives me hope that cutting out gluten will help everyone and not just the little guy. -

mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks. I need to be reminded that this too shall pass....especially with him sometimes. He's definitely my challenging one. I just have to remind myself that even when he's challenging at home....he behaves everywhere else and hasn't gotten in any trouble, yet. Ah teenagers. I'd so rather have a bunch of 3 & 4 year olds sometimes! -
ARCHIVED Waiting On Celiac Panel Results
mommy2krj replied to LoveMyDucklings's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yeah...he was allergy tested a couple years ago after having a major incident in which we were very lucky that someone else had some adult strength benadryl as we didn't even know he was allergic at that point. It was instant hives and wheezing. This reaction took a little longer but it's been so long since he's had a reaction like that and he doesn't react... -
ARCHIVED Waiting On Celiac Panel Results
mommy2krj replied to LoveMyDucklings's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Oh hugs! Poor thing. I would have taken my little guy gluten free to if the results had come back negative. We are currently on a 3.5 month strict gluten free diet as he was a weak positive in the blood work and a negative with the scope but there was some scalloping which can also be indicative of Celiac. See what the GI says and hopefully they can get... -

Oh that is wonderful news! On the other questions.... Sleep....none of us in my house are good sleepers....so I may be off in anything I say relating to sleep, just a forewarning. But I would give it some more time...maybe another week or two to see if things even out. It's a big change her little body is going through and everything is trying to get... -

mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Everyone in the house has been tested....little guy is the only one who's tested positive. Though, I have to say I was rather shocked that my older son didn't test positive. With all his issues (past and present) I figured he would for sure. Oh and I really hope he gains some focus and loses the joint pain....that would be wonderful! He worries me sometimes... -

Thanks. She's been through a lot in her life (her grandpa, uncle, dad and grandma-all on the same side of the family- all passed away pretty much one right after the other. Starting in kindergarten and going through 6th grade) and we've kind of been expecting her to have that teenage meltdown. It never happened though. I had her young too so it's always been... -

That is pretty much what I was thinking. I did get to lick the mixers....but wanted to try it after it was cooked too. Dang it! It's just been so hot and I just wasn't hungry yesterday....the brownies, cupcakes and cake weren't even tempting to me! The cold fruit, however.... Now she tells me, that the reason we had so much leftover cake is because NONE... -

mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yeah....I just thought it was really sweet. Those brownies got raves, too. The only person who said they didn't like them was my daughter. My brother was amazed that they were so good. I, unfortunately, never even got to taste one because they were gone before I had a chance! -
We had her graduation party today (still working on coming to terms with the fact that my baby girl graduated from high school!!!) and it went fairly well. I think we did a fairly decent job with supplying my little guy with gluten free stuff and I made gluten-free Namaste brownies and some gluten-free mini cupcakes so he wouldn't feel left out given there...

ARCHIVED Are There False Positives
mommy2krj replied to Rachelmoore's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hugs! And welcome to the boards. First....take a deep breath. I'm rather new here myself. My 6 year old (really, the whole family) is currently on a gluten free trial for the next 3.5 months because he tested positive with the blood work but negative on the endoscopy/biopsies. I don't know what the protocol is for the endoscopies on ones so young.....sorry... -
ARCHIVED Pediatric Celiac And Hashimoto's
mommy2krj replied to Nicnicsmom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Oh yes...the acting like a junkie part sounds familiar...though not with my Celiac kid. My older son, when he was younger, would go through a loaf of bread a day. I was a young mom then and thought nothing of it for a while....until it kept going on. It took quite a while before I was able to get him to chill out on his bread intake. I thought, out of my... -
ARCHIVED Well...it's Official.
mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thanks for the heads up on that. I didn't know that....she just said it was a more sensitive test and that the DGP one was generally just used for very young children. Hmmmm....guess we'll see what happens there. -
ARCHIVED Well...it's Official.
mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Thank you! It's definitely good to know it will be less overwhelming down the road. I feel more pulled together now that we actually have some answers and a definitive go gluten free. It's also nice to hear from someone that was already cooking a lot from scratch....we don't do a lot of processed foods but I was worried about the noodles. We'll just be eating... -

mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Thank you for the links! So much information entering my head lately and that one was brought up yesterday at my appointment and I just hadn't seen anything about it. Though....I really was trying to avoid the associated stuff so that probably had something to do with it. Probably would have freaked me out. I'm glad it's common knowledge though so people... -
I will start off saying, this is just something I was told by my son's GI doctor today. I have no sources and honestly in all the reading I've been doing since learning it was even a possibility that my youngest has Celiac I haven't come across any mentions of it. Though, I will admit, I tried to stay away from all the related disorders and such because I...

ARCHIVED Quick Question
mommy2krj replied to mmcc54's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hugs mama! We are in the same boat....positive tTG test but negative biopsies....though there was scalloping in the intestines that the GI doc saw. We are to be on a strict gluten-free diet for the next 3.5 months and then a check up too. So far my son's reactions aren't as severe as some I have read about, so I am thankful, but also a little fearful of what... -
ARCHIVED So What Questions Should I Be Asking....
mommy2krj replied to mommy2krj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We pretty much got the diagnosis. Due to the scalloping and the fact that he's still having stomach issues. Or at least we do for the next 3.5 months as a trial to see if being gluten free helps. Also took another batch of blood as she is running the EMA IgA or IgG and the genetic tests. So...we have some answers....we shall see if they are the right ones...
