  1. I lost 30 pounds in the 3 months before I was diagnosed, due to malabsorbtion (I was having diarrhea 20-30 times a day). I thought well, if I'm going to be this sick, at least I'm losing weight (I need to). After I was diagnosed and went gluten free, I gained all of the weight back. My Gastroenterologist was thrilled. He said that meant I was...
  2. I think it's a great idea. I know that I would buy it. I could use any warm and fuzzy's I can get. Considering 1 in 133 people have Celiac, I think that there should be enough interest.
  3. Hi Lorka 150 - When I was first diagnosed, it was all I could do to come home from work and fall into bed. I was sleeping all evening and waking up and watching tv for a few hours, just in time to fall asleep for another hour or so before I had to get up. Well I guess I was getting my 8 hours of sleep, just not when I wanted them. My body was...
  4. Jerseyangel - I was introduced to Wegman's when I was visiting family in New Jersey. The closest one to me (45 minutes away) just opened this month. They say you can't even find a space in the parking lot, it is so crowded. I'm going to give it a few weeks, and then I am going to shop my heart out! It will be worth the trip. You are so lucky...
  5. If you go to Food Allergies - Celiac and look at the list, you could print it out (right now it's 28 pages long) , or you could make a list of things you want to look for. A lot of stuff is in the natural food section, but look around the store - there is a lot to pick from! Cindy
  6. I agree Jo Ann, The Health Valley Rice Crunch Ums taste just like Chex. They also make a Corn Crunch Ums. I haven't had a problem with either one.

    ARCHIVED Struggling

I have been gluten free for 6 months. I also was amazed at the cost of gluten free food. I recently bought some "Food For Life" gluten free bread that the grocery store carried. It was actually pretty good if you nuke it and put peanut butter and jelly on it. I have also made french toast out of it. Yum You would be surprised at the amount...
  8. I also am 46 (Is this a magic number?) I am on Foxamax. My doctor told me that this medication actually can reverse bone loss. You may want to talk to your doctor again, or see another doctor for more advice. You may not want to ignore something that you can actually do something about. Good luck!
  9. You would be surprised at how gluten could get into your system. Your food needs to be prepared on a clean, sanitary area to avoid cross contamination. No double dipping from the peanut butter or butter containers, etc. because other people could be spreading onto products loaded with gluten. It is better to have your own container marked "Gluten Free...
  10. I also suggest that you at least get the blood test before going gluten free. If you do have Celiac, you are talking about a life change, not just a diet. It's very important to know for sure. Celiac patient's who don't take care of themselves are more prone to many problems, Lymphoma being one of them. There are a lot of resources out there to help...
  11. Hi - You are so lucky to have a Wegman's near you!!! If you go to their website Open Original Shared Link and click on food allergies, there is a whole list of gluten free foods! There is a natural food section of the store that will have a lot of gluten-free stuff, and in the freezer section I found Glutino bagels that were wonderful! Happy...
  12. I was going to suggest that you contact the Celiac Center at University of MD. After I saw where you were from, I asuume you already did that .
  13. I order a Jr. Cheeseburger no bun (They actually have a "no bun" key on the register). I tell them to put it on a plate with ONLY lettuce and tomato. I watch to make sure that the person making the order follows the instructions (I caught them putting it on a bun once and told them that I would need another burger - not the same one). I have a baked potato...
  14. Hi Lorka 150 This sounds like a really great idea!! It is really nice of you to offer to handle it all. I'm afraid that Maryland is too far to travel from, or I'd be there with bells on. I hope the party works out. Have a great time
  15. I began losing my hair due to medication I was taking. My doctor suggested that I take Zinc and Selenium (found in the vitamin aisle of the store) for this - and it helped. Check with your doctor to see if it is ok for you to try. Make sure that the brand you get is gluten free.
  16. Mystery Diagnosis - Like Mother, Like Son will air on Discovery Health Channel on October 28 at 8:00 p.m. and October 30 at 5:00 p.m. It is about a child discovered to have Celiac Disease.
  17. I was so hungry the other day at work that I went to the vending machine. After looking at it for a while, I decided that the only thing I could have would be the peanuts. I put my money in, pushed the button, and out they came. As always, I looked at the ingredients list, thinking they are just peanuts, there isn't any gluten in here...boy was I wrong...
  18. Hi celiac3270 - I was diagnosed in April 2005 and am still trying to figure out how to live. You have been so helpful! Can you please send me the restaurant guide? Also, what are the Silly Yaks all about? Thank you for all of your wonderful postings. Cindy
  19. This is my first gluten-free holiday season. Everyone usually contributes to the meals. It is going to be hard enough to have to ask each person exactly what is in the dish they brought, and then still not be sure that I can have it. Can you share some gluten-free holiday recipes? I will be sharing the holidays with friends and family that are not...
