Posted 2 hours ago · Well, I am not new. I lurk a lot and have posted in the past. I have known for years that I have a gluten sensitivity. But now I'm pretty sure it's celiac. I have had DH for the past few days. Hands, ankles, and knees have the hallmark blisters of DH. And, my GOD, they are itchy! But what is really ...

ARCHIVED Mc Cormick gluten-free Chili Mix?
MissyBB replied to pdm1981's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We have the McCormick's gluten-free here in Canada. I've used it without problem and it tastes the same as the regular mix. -
ARCHIVED TRUSTING OTHERS about GLUTEN! how do you know if someone has used gluten free flour?
MissyBB replied to jmssl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know. Before I went gluten-free I knew of other celiacs and often made goodies for them even though I was still a wheat-eater. I was always VERY careful. Never used plastic anything. Made sure I super cleaned counters and glass bowls and metal utensils before hand etc. No one ever got cc'd. I think it depends on how educated you think that... -

ARCHIVED Gluten challenge - how much do you really need?
MissyBB posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Long story, short.........I ordered a home celiac blood test for my daughter who ended up in the ER where she had a whole celiac panel done. So, now I have a Biocard test just sitting here. I would love to really know but the thought of what comes with eating gluten - ACK! Regardless, I am thinking about doing a challenge. How much do I REALLY... -
ARCHIVED Classic Celiac In Kids???
MissyBB replied to MissyBB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There's a test for NCGI???? I had no idea they could test for that now. That's interesting because I KNOW that I am, at the very least, NCGI so I immediately suspected gluten sensitivity when she started feeling crappy. I didn't know they had a test for that. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Classic Celiac In Kids???
MissyBB replied to MissyBB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
UPDATE We got the results back. Both the celiac panel and the H Pylori were negative. Ugh.....now we have absolutely no idea what to do. We have to start from square one again. -
ARCHIVED New Celiac Mom
MissyBB replied to Marcindy3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm sorry you are going through this. It must be so hard. Is it possible she is getting cross contaminated at home? if you are using old bowls, plastic bowls, cups, anything that was used when you all consume gluten it sometimes sticks in the small scratches etc of cookware or mixing bowls. Also, wooden spoons, the cutting board, toaster etc. Could you... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Magazines For Canada
MissyBB posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know of a GOOD gluten-free magazine that doesn't fleece Canadians if you want a subscription? I find that I go on magazine websites, get all excited and then when I want to subscribe I find that to send it to Canada the cost is almost double. $40 a year for a mere six issues is just ridiculous, IMO. -
ARCHIVED Udi's now Baguette size
MissyBB replied to cmoore's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I know. **sigh** I just (re) started the search for a decent sandwich bread. You know, one that is full sized AND you can actually eat cold as in A SANDWICH! Ugh...... -
ARCHIVED Classic Celiac In Kids???
MissyBB replied to MissyBB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
No, not yet. Our GP is hoping they come in tomorrow (Thursday). It's been a very long wait! I am hoping it's H Pylori and NOT celiac. Fingers crossed. She's still suffering with a lot of nausea and pain. -
ARCHIVED Timeline to get testing back???
MissyBB posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
We had our daughter tested last Thursday. It was done at the ER. It was a celiac blood panel. They sent us home and told us to follow up with our GP when the test comes in. Yesterday I called the GP and it still wasn't back. That would have been four days (with a weekend included in that time line). How long did it take you to get your results? -

ARCHIVED Classic Celiac In Kids???
MissyBB replied to MissyBB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
UPDATE........ I took my DD back to the ER today as she has the terrible stomach thing again. The did full blood panel PLUS a full celiac panel. The good news is that she's not dying of some dreadful thing. Liver, pancreas, kidney stuff all came back fine. We have to see the family doctor for the celiac panel and the H Pylori test as it... -
ARCHIVED Taking my 1st cruise
MissyBB replied to zenjess1980's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
What cruise line are you sailing on? We were on Carnival last March. GREAT experience with gluten-free. They knew who I was at every table/dining room seating and always had a gluten-free menu for me. And, weirdest thing.....we signed on for a wine tasting. We get there and sit down and, low and behold, ALL the other people had crackers on their plate and... -
ARCHIVED Sudden hair loss
MissyBB replied to dania's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I asked how old you were because hair loss is a big indicator of estrogen deficiency which is seen, often, in middle-aged (35 and older) women. But you are only 24 so I highly doubt that is your issue. I agree that your thyroid is likely the culprit. But if you are going to get blood work done then test your other hormones as well. -

ARCHIVED Classic Celiac In Kids???
MissyBB replied to MissyBB's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Cycling Lady.....thanks for your input. Yes, it is the Biocard. If it comes back negative, which, of course, I hope it does, then we will have to investigate further. She obviously can NOT be feeling like this indefinitely. I feel so terrible for her. If the test comes back negative and we take her back to the ER and they see nothing then... -

ARCHIVED Classic Celiac In Kids???
MissyBB posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi there. I am a member here as I am, at the very least, NCGS. I have never been tested to confirm celiac because I went off gluten during a food challenge and alllll my symptoms disappeared. I never went back to gluten. That was three years ago. Okay, so my daughter.........she is 12 (13 in July). About a month ago she started feeling unwell. Belly... -
ARCHIVED New to gluten free, feeling very weird
MissyBB replied to Annie-'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It's a very real phenomenon - this gluten withdrawal. When I did it, hmmmm...I think it's been three years now (or is it four?...anyway...!) since I had wheat/gluten. And I will never forget the withdrawal. It took me about 10 days to get over it. I thought I was going to die. EVERYTHING hurt. I felt like an old lady with arthritis. I was in pain, and my... -
ARCHIVED Low(er) carb gluten-free pasta?
MissyBB replied to MissyBB's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This one looks even better. I like that it's dried pasta. Not in Canada, though. Bummer. We always are late to the party where new products are concerned. Sucks!
