  1. Ok, I'll add mine: This first one is February 2013, right after my first biopsy: This is late March 2013: And this is what it turned into by Summer 2013: It's alarmingly symmetrical, with the right side being somewhat more impacted:
  2. It's all so clear to us on this side of the "fence", no? I'm like "Shoot, if I were single and looking, I would seriously consider going on a gluten free dating site!" But to folks who don't have Celiac/NCGS or have anyone close to them that has it, it probably just seems weird that we would care about finding someone who was also gluten-free. They don't...
  3. I love pistachio and amaretto and hazelnut - any of the nuts flavors, really, though I have not had chestnut and now must - M U S T - find some. Does it taste like roasted chestnuts? (Gawd, I love the smell of roasting chestnuts) I am also very fond of just sweet cream gelato or ice cream - pure n simple. Dammit. Now I want gelato!
  4. I can help. I am well-versed in these things. She is almost certainly talking about gelato. *beams proudly*
  5. It's pretty awesome. And dangerous...
  6. Oh this is good to hear. Thank you all! I am also a spice fanatic and the thought of havin got start over with all new spices is horrifying. Plus, Penzey's really are my favorite - always so fresh and bright tasting, never "dusty". I am fortunate that they have two retail locations in my city, but I used to order from them before they opened up here. Tomorrow...
  7. They have always been my favorite and my spice drawer is almost exclusively from their selection. But as I am continuing to make the clean sweep through my kitchen to get rid of anything possibly gluten-tainted, I am wondering if spices are of concern (gawd, I hope not!)
  8. Yes! That's the one I love! They have a few flavors that do not have eggs in them, so it will be one of the first things in line when I can get off the low-iodine train.
  9. Tonight: Pumpkin chili with avocado cream (I just harvested the last of the peppers and the first of the pumpkins!) I might make some kind of cornbread muffins (with lard! ) if I am feeling ambitious. And a Salad, of course, probably with pears. What brand of gelato do you like? I am counting the days until I can eat it again...and they...
  10. Aw, I'm sorry! I know that misery all too well. I also know how crazy it can make you to try and figure out why it's flaring. It could just be the natural cycle of your rash - it will likely surge and recede, surge and recede while you are healing. Some people clear quickly, others take a bit more time. You should also consider going low-iodine, which means...
  11. I think the problem is that you only got the almond butter "almost there". Try making the almond butter in the food processor until it is completely creamy then adding in the honey and vanilla. You could just try whirling it in the food processor for a bit longer.
  12. mendylou - The worst time for me is in the middle of the night - I wake up sweaty and itchy and warm, no matter how cool the room is.
  13. *butts in* Oh hi! Are we talking about pie crust? I am tasked with making the pies for my family turkey day dinner this year and I am excited/nervous. I was also looking at trying out the BRM pie crust mix but I am also wanting to try to make the lard crust from the cookbook Beyond Bacon. I LURRRRRVE lard pie crust! Now I just have to figure out how to make...
  14. Hi there answerseeker, I would not be surprised at all if your asthma is caused by gluten. My sister has had terrible allergies and asthma all her life, had to take steroids, keep an inhaler close by, etc. She went gluten free accidentally two years ago (trying to lose baby weight - stopped eating toast in the mornings and bread at dinner, noticed BIG changes...
  15. Interesting indeed. No wonder Dh is notoriously hard to diagnose. It's on the completely submerged part of the iceberg it seems.
  16. I went grain free/Paleo when I had to go low-iodine - it just kind of made sense. It was rough for the first bit. I was craving carbs like crazy (apparently this is normal - our body gets used to burning carbs for fuel and it takes a while for it to switch to burning fat instead). I am now grain-lite - I will eat a little rice or masa harina once or twice...
  17. Very interesting theory! How is your hair now? I have heard about Biotin, but I wonder if it was just snake oil. I may give it a shot. My fingernails and toenails are quite strong, always have been, interestingly enough. I have noticed that I get fewer white dots on my fingernails now. And the thing about my hair is, it's not noticeably thin to the...
  18. Thanks for sharing. I need to go back to my medical record now and see if they tested for TTG2 only. I have Dermatitis herpetiformis but ALL of my tests came back negative. I betcha they didn't look for TTG3!
  19. Hi all, So I am wondering how many people have had issues with their hair due to Celiac/NCGS? Mine has been temperamental for the last few years. It's always been fine but never this thin and never with this weird growth pattern: I have a ring around my crown where the hair never grows longer than 3-4 inches. It's odd. I only noticed it about two years ago...
  20. Thank you, kareng and IrishHeart! Off to the kitchen I go!
  21. I've got some beef shanks in the crockpot bubbling away in some red wine with lots of onions and black pepper. Smells great in here! I was going to put it over polenta but I am a bit leery of the polenta I've got in the pantry. I cannot remember if I bought it from the bulk bins or not...this learning curve just doesn't stop, huh? I will probably end up...
  22. I think your sign is great. I'm considering putting up something like that on my front door, too. Annnnd, here's where I admit that I am not doing it for kids, as I don't have any, but simply because I am terrified of gluten and have worked really hard to scrub all traces of it from my house. But, if I had little kids, I would definitely hang a sign like...
  23. Very true, squirmy! I have had the rash for almost 4 years but only been gluten free for 5 months. I am so glad to hear that your flares are getting better and better. There is hope, I know it - sometimes it's hard to remember (like int he middle of the night when I am itchy and tired!)
  24. I cannot say for sure if it is Dh, but I will say this: don't get too hung up on what "typical" Dh looks like. If you look at the photo bank here you will see a fair amount of variation in rashes and locations. Mine is considered "atypical" according to common medical knowledge and that was enough to make multiple derms and docs decide it wasn't Dh. (Common...
  25. Right? Oh this Dh is BAAAD business.
