  1. I believe celiac disease may well be covered by the ADA. My husband mentioned that it was last summer when we needed a hotel room with a kitchen and none were available. The manager provided one for us as he said this disability was "covered by the ADA." I'm not 100% positive though, so I don't know how much help I am. Anyhow, perhaps employers are not...
  2. Tamara, congratulations! What fantastic news! Linda, don't worry. You're not alone. My son hasn't gained or grown much either in the four months he's been gluten-free. But I'm hopeful and have faith. Hang in there.

    ARCHIVED Please Help

I horrible that you get that treatment from the one who's supposed to love you and protect you most. You don't deserve that. But you've come to a great place where a lot of great people will support you and give better advice than most doctors. My son has celiac disease and has been gluten-free for almost four months. He's still pretty skinny and...
  4. Yvonne - my heart goes out to you. What you are faced with now is the hardest thing there is. We are your friends and will grieve with you. I pray for strength for you and your family and join the others who've offered to help in any way they can.
  5. Join the club, George. Our friends (and family) think we're freaks, like we've gone on a health food kick, or something. Even the nutritionist made me feel that I was taking this diet too seriously. She told me a little gluten wouldn't hurt my celiac disease son and that eventually he'd be able to eat gluten without being sick. Just hang in there. ...
  6. Yes, my dh posts too. He's very involved with my son's diet. I think he has celiac too, although he's a little overweight. He has all the other classic symptoms. We hope to test him, although he's afraid of what a positive test result may do to our ability to get insured with a different carrier in the future. He's trying to eat gluten-free, but I think...
  7. Crayola crayons are gluten-free. Roseart are not gluten-free Elmers glue is gluten-free. Crayola markers are gluten-free.
  8. Nini - thanks for the hugs. His diet has been completely gluten-free for 6 weeks, as far as I know. We check every label. There may have been one accident. A few weeks ago, my husband and daughter made pancakes and my dd put the wrong syrup on them. We use an organic one for my son and she poured Log Cabin on them. The ingredients said "caramel...
  9. The teachers know he is celiac and have been given special treats for him. He has gluten-free crayons, etc. We bring him his lunch daily, hot, fresh and gluten-free.He seems quite content to eat gluten-free foods and is very meticulous about being conscious
  10. Hi, this is Mart's other 1/2. While the child has lost a couple of pounds according to the bath room scale, he has been very active and has not been complaining of other symptoms, e.g. stomach pain, problematic bowel movements. I suppose there is a possibility of cross contamination, but we are moving over to a gluten-free diet for the whole family to reduce...
  11. Hi everyone. I thank God for you guys. My doctor will only answer questions if we schedule a $160 visit with him, and even then his answers are vague he makes me feel stupid. The dietician got a good lesson on celiac disease from me. What an incredible waste of time! If it weren't for you guys, I wouldn't have known how to even begin the gluten-free...
  12. Hi. Does anyone know what this could mean? My 11 year old daughter was screened for celiac disease after her 7 year old brother tested positive. He has all the classic symptoms, she only has a few. The doctor's office called to say that she does not have celiac disease, but could develop it in the future because one of the two serology tests were positive...
  13. Before my 7 year old son was diagnosed with celiac disease about 6 weeks ago, he was in the hospital and a blood test showed a positive marker for Crohns. The two back up marker tests showed negative. He said, "he doesn't have Crohns for now." Then he called with the results for the endoscopy results, showing blunting of the villi. That's when he did a...
  14. Thanks for the info. That helps a lot. I do not remember the name, but I do recall that it said it was 99.1% positive for life. But I do agree with you that either way she should go on the diet. I've read elsewhere that it has helped children with symptoms that tested negative. I will definitely do that!
  15. Hi. My son 7 year old son was diagnosed just a month ago. He's so small. My 11 year old daughter was just tested last week. She's pretty small too. I don't know if she has celiac disease or not, but I'm afraid that if she does, it may have been diagnosed too late for her to grow. She is at the onset of puberty now. I've heard that girls don't grow...
  16. I'm certainly no expert, but I recently read in the "Living Without" magazine that a young celiac boy (pre-diagnosis) visited the bakery with his mom, and threw up totally unexpectedly while standing by the bagels. Also, Bette Hagman (The Gluten Free Gourmet) recommends in her book that if someone in the house is going to consume wheat products, they should...
  17. Hi. I apologize if this question has been asked before. I looked but couldn't find it. Anyway, my 7 year old son was diagnosed with celiac disease three weeks ago and has since been on the gluten-free diet. Although he hasn't gained an ounce yet, I noticed that he seemed to do better the first week when we thought only homemade, "whole" foods were gluten...
  18. Help! My 7 year old son was recently diagnosed with celiac disease and I can't seem to get any reliable information. His gastroenterologist doesn't know anything about the gluten-free diet, and we can't get in to see the nutritionist for another 2 months. I heard the best thing to do was find a support group. I can't seem to find one in the Miami area...
