ARCHIVED Campbell's Select Soups
mart replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How sad. That's the only one that actually tastes good. I tried it at my sister's house and was impressed. The sweet potato one tastes like thick baby food...okay for hurricane season, I guess. -
ARCHIVED Would You Eat Cheetos?
mart posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been extremely careful with my son's diet since his celiac diagnosis 6 months ago. After going gluten-free, he's still skinny and small, but he's grown about 2 inches and gained 8 pounds. I'm pretty happy with that! Will I screw up his progress by allowing him to eat Cheetos? I've heard so much about cross contamination with Frito Lay's products... -
ARCHIVED Looking For Pediactic Dr Specializing In celiac disease In Southest Florida
mart replied to celiackid?'s topic in Doctors
Kerry, whereabouts do you live? We live in Miami, and our son sees a pediatric GI at Miami Children's Hospital. His number, if you're interested is 305-661-6111. P.S. Don't worry about putting your baby "under" for a biopsy. Believe it or not, that's the easiest part. The preparation, however, two days prior can be pretty hard for a little one. They... -
ARCHIVED Tylenol Rapid Release
mart replied to jerseyangel's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Could be because it's so new (not helpful to you right now - I know). I recently called about Children's Imodium for my kids, and they told me it wasn't on the gluten-free list but that the reason could be because it is new and hasn't undergone testing. -
ARCHIVED Need Advice For 7 Year Old Daughter With Celiac
mart replied to Mom of celiac's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Sorry to hear your daughter is having to deal with this. My 7 year old son was also diagnosed in August. Despite being gluten free for almost 4 months, he still complains of symptoms - one of them being very tired. I never really understood why he was such a home body before. He never liked going anywhere. He just wanted to lay on the couch. He, too... -
I'm still waiting for my gluten free celiac disease son to gain weight too. Something I think may help you is that BOOST Energy Drink (it's like Ensure, only it has more fat and calories). My son doesn't like it but he drinks it. It's full of vitamins and minerals and it's very convenient to take along with you. Also, it will give you great energy. ...

I believe casein is a protein found in milk, at least that's the way the pediatrician described it when he told me my son had an allergy to casein at birth. He told me he'd outgrow it, but now I'm not so sure. He was never tested for this - the pediatrician just diagnosed it based on symptoms. I've heard others on this board say that an allergy to casein...

ARCHIVED Recurring Back Itch
mart replied to RiceGuy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My celiac disease son definitely has back itch daily and all over sometimes too! He also has no rash. I'll bet it is caused by celiac disease. Glad to know yours went away! -
Me too! I love this site and thank God for it. It's helped me to cope at living in a poisonous world full of gluten. I was so confused and depressed prior to finding all you super knowlegable people. I'm fairly new here but want to thank ELONWY for making me laugh everyday, JENVAN for a beautiful, caring spirit and positive attitude, RICHARD for being...

ARCHIVED Meal Ideas For Someone Broke Severe Fatigue
mart replied to healthwarrior's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Healthwarrior, you wouldn't believe how much stuff is naturally gluten free! Yes, the gluten-free processed foods are rediculously expensive, but as long as you aren't craving pasta or bread, you'll do fine at the supermarket. You just need to learn to recognize gluten names and look at the ingredients on labels. Most major supermarket chains have their... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Know Of A gluten-free Dog Food?
mart replied to mart's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow! Thank you psawyer and everyone for the great suggestions. I am constantly amazed at the support I find in this site and the willingness that you all have to share. I hope my picky poodle will learn to eat one of these. Jennifer, unfortunately I won't be of much help with the bird food. We have a cockatoo. We used to buy a grain mix which is... -
Hi Martine. I won't be of much help because I don't have an answer to your question, but I just wanted to applaud you for being so brave to send your gluten free son out into the world. I hope I can do the same one day, as our son's diagnosis has completely curtailed our travels. We even dread traveling to another city. I understand Europe has a high...

ARCHIVED Best Gluten Free List?
mart replied to hkeener's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi. My son was diagnosed just 3 months ago. It hasn't been easy, but this site has made life bearable again. I haven't bought any lists yet, but I have bought cookbooks. I bought all of Bette Hagman's cookbooks, and they were okay. Her bean flour breads have a wonderful consistency but a horrible flavor. So we just buy our breads from Kinnickinnick... -

ARCHIVED Hi I Am New Hear Wanted Some Advice.
mart replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi Tracey. So sorry to hear Emma has been that sick. My 7 year old son has Celiac and is very thin too. How long has she been sick this way? When did you have to start tube feeding her? If you find out that she in fact has celiac disease it's important to look into the ingredients of what's going through that tube. Everything she consumes must be completely... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Accuracy Question
mart replied to jnclelland's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't trust all these blood tests. But that rash sure sounds suspicious...could be DH. I'd start eating wheat again and get re-tested just to be sure. -
Sorry your doctor's an idiot...ours is too. Mine won't even answer a simple question over the phone. You have to make an appointment and pay a copayment of $40 (after you've waited for him for 2 1/2 hours). Then he makes you feel like your questions are stupid and that he's already explained the whole thing to you a dozen times! I'm frustrated too but...

ARCHIVED gluten-free Product Updates
mart replied to eeyor-fan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks Bridget. You are soooooo SWEET to share that info which clearly took a lot of time to research. -
My kids love McDonald's french fries, but I don't dare buy them anymore. Although they do fry them separately from the chicken nuggets, the employees use the same gloved hands to pick them up as they do to pick up the nuggets. I'm so paranoid, I guess it's because my celiac disease son is still so underweight even after being "gluten-free" for 4 months...

ARCHIVED Anyone Know Of A gluten-free Dog Food?
mart posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi. This is gross, but my dog's always licking my son's face , and the first ingredient in all the brands of dog food I've seen is "Wheat Gluten." We've already changed the bird's food because it included barley. Can anyone recommend a gluten-free dog food brand? -
Hi. How do you guys know what you're allergic (or intolerant) to? My son has celiac disease, and I've been trying to convince his gastro doctor to test him for other allergens as I suspect he may have a casein allergy. I heard this can also cause malabsorption, and although he has been gluten-free for 3 months now, he feels somewhat better but hasn't grown...

I'm no expert, but I can certainly tell you that my 7 year old with celiac disease CONSTANTLY complains of itching on his back and arms. We work very hard to keep him gluten-free, so I think the itching is probably just part of condition.

I recently read an article written by a dermatologist (can't remember where now) that the medical community used to think that some people who had DH had celiac disease. He said they now know that everyone who has DH has celiac disease. I think it's worth discussing with a good dermatologist.
