  1. I will go to Wild Oats again today and see if I can find the Vance's. Is it in the shelved milk aisle? I didn't see it with the cold, fresh milk. He feels better, but ocassionally still says he feels a tingle of pain that lasts only seconds. I will try to stick with it, but it's so hard seeing that he's so skinny. I don't want him to lose weight, but...
  2. Yes, is it only weeks that you're on this diet? It took my son months until he felt better. Also, pork always makes me sick and naseous. Can you stick to bland type foods while your gut is recovering?
  3. Also, I wonder how much of what we say to the waiters, the managers and the chefs really sticks. Before we decided to "never eat out again," two different restaurant chefs said they checked labels and their response was "the ingredients did not say gluten on it." And how can you know they really use a clean pan? How many times has Burger King given you...
  4. Sounds like a difficult task, though surely not impossible. I always wondered what we'll do when our daughter has her sweet sixteens birthday party, and I just thought we'd tell the caterers to make hers and our son's dinners gluten-free with special instructions on pans, utensils, etc. and additionally with supervision from my husband. So maybe just make...
  5. You guys are so brave! If I were the celiac in the family, I guess I'd risk it too. But my skinny little boy's health is just not worth the risk. I want to conserve the few pounds he's gained since going gluten-free. We have risked it a few times for my daughter (whose test result was inconclusive). But the last time we ventured out to a "knowledgeable...
  6. The thing is that I don't know for sure if he is casein intolerant. I think he is for two reasons. The first is that when he was born, I nursed him and supplemented with formula. He had streaks of blood in his stool and cried really hard while having bowel movements. The pediatrician said that was a casein allergy. He put him on 7 different formulas...
  7. Want to get pregnant fast? If you find that you don't get pregnant the first month you try, start taking Robitussin Guaifenesin syrup (adult dosage twice a day). It was recommended to me by a fertility specialist friend that explained that thinner cervical mucous allows better passage for sperm to reach the egg cell. I got pregnant that very first...
  8. Thanks guys for all your recommendations. I'm kind of sad, though, because a lot of this stuff has soy in it and it seems he's not handling soy all that well. I went to Wild Oats and found the Tropical chocolate bar. For dark chocolate, I must say, it's pretty good! I was shocked that I couldn't find any of the nut milks I've heard so much about on...
  9. Hi. Does anyone know of a common brand gluten free body moisturizer? I used Nivea Q10 and loved it, but they can't tell me if it's gluten-free or not.
  10. I'm finally out of denial, thanks to a food diary. My son went gluten free in August '05 and started gaining weight and feeling great. Then little by little he started feeling sick again...stomachache, etc., even though he's 100% gluten free. He's stopped gaining weight again. After keeping a food diary for a week, I realized that he complains mostly...
  11. Good news Jen! Hallelujah! You are obviously doing a great job on your diet!
  12. Hi Laura. All of my son's tests were positive. My daughter's were borderline. The doctor said this would mean that she could develop celiac disease some time in the future. He strongly urged us not to put her on a gluten free diet because he said it is a hard life, and it would be unfair to do this since she does not have celiac disease. However, the...
  13. I don't know if it's related to celiac, but it sure sounds like it. My little boy with celiac often complains that his heart is beating too fast, and this is when he's just laying on the couch!
  14. Your advice and friendship has gotten me through so much since my son's diagnosis last August. He actually gained 6 pounds since going gluten-free 9 months ago, but now he's complaining of stomachaches pretty much every day. We are totally gluten-free at home (toothpaste, shampoo and even pet food) and now here he is, 9 months later complaining of stomachache...
  15. Ronnie, fear not, you're not alone. My son started to feel better too right after he started the diet. And now, almost 9 months into the diet, his stomach hurts often when he eats. We're totally gluten-free (we don't even eat out). I don't know what this is. It's so frustrating. Anyway, maybe you're still healing and may have periods where you just...
  16. Hi Laura. Just wanted to welcome you. All of the above advice is excellent, and I agree that for a lot of people it just takes a lot of time to heal. So hang in there and visit this board often. You'd be surprised at some of the places gluten may be hiding and contaminating you, like shampoo, make up, etc. If anything, you'll come out an expert from...
  17. Hi Robynrn. My son was also very irritable and had many cavities, despite the fact that we took such excellent care of his teeth. He also had lots of ear infections. This went on for the first six years of his life. He didn't exhibit any signs of celiac until he was 7, when his tummy problems started. He didn't grow from ages 4 - 7, and his doctors didn...
  18. My celiac son always seemed to have a low grade fever. Since he's gone gluten-free, I've noticed it a lot less, though. Don't know for sure if it's related, but I've always thought it was for the same reason you said (the inflammation).
  19. No walk going on here . I think we're the only people with Celiac in Miami!
  20. Yes, Joanna, you're right. He understands he feels better when he eats gluten-free, but I guess he's just one of those people that need to hear a diagnosis from a doctor. I have a copy of his test results, if anyone is knowledgeable enough to interpret whether or not his test is borderline.
  21. Nisla, I see that your daughter had an "inconclusive blood test," but you said she has celiac. Is it possible to have celiac and have a negative or inconclusive blood test? Do you think this jjust because she had a positive response to the gluten-free diet? I'm only asking because my son has celiac (blood test and biopsy positive) but my daughter had an...
  22. Wow. This really gives me hope.
  23. My celiac son also had to have ear tubes put in when he was 2. He had 9 ear infections in 1 year...I kept telling his doctor that he needed to see a specialist and he thought he didnt, so he wouldn't refer him. Finally, he ended up in the ER with 105 degree fever. When I told the ENT specialist at the hospital he'd had 9 ear infections in one year, he...
  24. Sorry, I don't have any research. Just quoting my son's gastroenterologist.
  25. Cheri, I'll pm the link and recipe to you!
