  1. Wow. Thanks for all the great advice. Yes, I've had her over for dinner many times, and she's always commented on how delicious our gluten free food is. But I don't want to feel like my family is not welcome at her home. There goes my over-sensitivity again. I've taken everyone's advice, and I called her this morning. This is how it played...
  2. Tanya, we're all praying for this baby and for you too. Thanks for keeping us posted. May you all have a peaceful night's sleep.
  3. L.A., this is a scary subject, but I agree that it's one that should be discussed. Don't be worried that you haven't gained much weight after being gluten-free for so long. That doesn't mean you have refractory sprue. Some people are just wired to be thin no matter what (some lucky people that is). I think refractory sprue is a fear that has crossed every...
  4. Wow, is it true that she will probably not develop chron's if she goes gluten free?
  5. Hi. I'm posting this because I don't know how to react to this and was hoping someone might know where my friend was coming from. We've been friends for almost 20 years. When she found out about the celiac diagnosis, she told me that she couldn't have us over for dinner anymore because she couldn't accommodate our diet. This was a little hurtful to me...
  6. We eat a crispy rice cereal called Rice Twice. We get it at Wild Oats. It's pretty good.
  7. Amanda'sMommy: It's terrible what you're going through. Your behavior looks like blatant depression to me - and it's certainly not your fault. Surely you thought the risk you undertook to become more attractive to your husband would have helped save your marriage. But realize that it's not you...clearly he's the problem here. And the eating gluten...
  8. I'm curious about this remark the doc made in the article: "and a majority of celiac patients who adopt a restrictive diet still exhibit structural and functional gut abnormalities." Would this explain why many celiacs (such as my son) continue to have stomachaches despite a strict gluten-free diet?
  9. Lays makes a "Naturals" brand of Tostitos too, and they're fantastic.
  10. My son had the complete Enterolab celiac panel done. We did because I was still worried about malabsorption issues after almost one year gluten free. The results showed no sensitivity whatsoever to gluten (but then again, he's been gluten-free for almost a year). Also, no problems with malabsorption. However, the swab dna test was positive with 2 celiac...
  11. If it really works and it's really safe to use, I wouldn't care how much I had to pay for it. I agree that eating gluten free was a big deal at first, but not so much now, and that cc is the main issue of concern. To be able to eat out and travel to foreign lands again...gosh, it sounds almost like a dream.
  12. Tanya, you've been blessed with so much strength and patience. I am major-league stressed out just reading this. Just wanted to let you know I've been thinking about you and praying for Meg. Lord grant you strength (and breastmilk). P.S. This was probably suggested here before...if so, I apologize that I missed it, but have you considered getting...
  13. Hi Becky. Sorry your doctor is so misinformed. My son was very sick, thin, and his villi was completely flat. Yet he wasn't the least bit anemic. Some celiacs don't have flattened villi, yet they are anemic. Go figure! Was this doctor a gastroenterologist? You need to find a good one, would be nice if he was very knowledgeable about celiac disease...
  14. Kenyonsmommy, have you looked at the new Trix and Cocoa Puffs? They've been talking a lot about this on a recent thread in this forum. Also, a new cereal called Dora the Explorer, which I've not yet been able to find but others say is quite good. Just be sure to read the labels to ensure you are getting the ones without gluten. My son is quite happy to...
  15. I don't understand why you're having to do a gluten challenge either. Our GI said there is no point in doing that anymore - really quite sadistic IMO. He said doctors used to do that but don't anymore and that if going gluten free helped, there's nothing more to prove or do. Sorry you're going through this. How long do you have do undergo this hell...
  16. We eat the Lay's Sea Salt Natural chips too with no problems. These are the best potato chips ever created!
  17. This post is perfect in every way. P.S. Don't forget a little make up, perfume and to sit up straight. Also, remember to relax and have fun. And please do let us know how everything went.
  18. Thanks, this is great news! I love Nars, and knowing their whole line is gluten-free surely makes shopping for quality make up easy.
  19. Thanks, this is good to know. I'd called last year about the children's liquid Imodium and they were in the process of testing it. Hope my kids don't get D.
  20. Congratulations, Julie! What great news!
  21. Tears! I was all excited and headed to my local Sephora store - tried out the Bare Essentials foundation only to be met with disappointment. No matter how much I put on, I looked the same - freckles peeking throughout. The sales lady agreed too! She said Bare Essentials is just a product that either works for you or not. Where to go now? My skin...
  22. When is this surgery? Let's get these prayer warriors revved up. Heck, I'll get my whole church praying for little Meg.
  23. Agent Z, welcome to the board. Everyone's right. Celiac is like pregnancy - you don't ever get a false positive by way of blood test. Anyway, please accept your diagnosis, for your health's sake, stick to a strict gluten-free diet and stick around this forum for great advice. You may be overwhelmed at first, but you'll find a lot of great information...
  24. I live in Miami (a pretty big city) and can't even find a support group to join. I've tried to start my own, but can the people of this city be so "out of it" that they haven't yet discovered that roughly 1 in 100 of them has celiac disease? Anyway, sadly, leadership is not one of my stronger qualities, but if anyone has ideas on how we can join together...
  25. That stinks, minibabe. Are you certain it was the cereal?
