  1. Here's a thing to try that hasn't been posted yet: Dark or Tart Cherry Juice. Not from concentrate, there is a brand that is just straight juice. It has a laxative effect if you drink too much. For me, too much is a regular size glass. Tastes a LOT better than apple cider vinegar (if you aren't a fan of bitter or sour tastes) and along with the magnesium...
  2. That's great news! Actually, I tried dairy without Lactaid since it always caused the big D, and since going gluten-free I've had terrible issues with the opposite problem! I figured lactose might help "move things along." It hasn't, but I'm happy to not have to worry about taking Lactaid anymore!
  3. Hey neighbor! :-) Well, that gluten free bakery I mentioned is in South Denver/Littleton and they will ship anything to you (except their premade meals). It's called Deby's. When I eat out....which is almost never nowadays!! I like Red Robin, they are VERY allergen/gluten-free friendly, and even have gluten-free hamburger buns. I also found out that...
  4. Can it be possible that more than 20 years of being lactose intolerant could be cured by being gluten-free for less than 4 months?? I've been taking Lactaid enzymes for as long as I can remember. My father couldn't digest milk either, and I figured out it was milk that gave me the big D. So anytime I drank milk, ate ice cream, sour cream, cottage cheese...
  5. Icelandgirl - I feel your pain! I was diagnosed on October 1, 2013 and it was a complete shock! I thought it would be something related to my Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, my hormone imbalances, something like that. Turns out it IS related, but I'd never even HEARD of celiac before! I am a huge carb and bread junkie, have been all my life. Taking away one of my...
  6. Where are you in Colorado? I had no idea I have celiac until I was diagnosed last October by a naturopath in Boulder. She is really great, has been gluten free herself for 20 years and deals with a lot of patients with celiac and gluten intolerance. She also works with an MD in the office, so if you needed prescriptions or something, they can take care of...
  7. If I needed positive proof I can no longer eat gluten, I got it last Friday. Since I never had any GI symptoms before (not that I knew of), going gluten free seemed more like a punishment than a cure. I figured if I had some gluten by accident, I'd just feel really tired and foggy, but then be ok, all the damage being done inside was something I couldn't...
  8. Ok, I get it. I can't have gluten anymore. Suspicions removed. This past Friday I started not feeling very well. I haven't been eating as much since going gluten-free in October, just not as hungry or interested in food. Friday was like any other day, working at home and eating my standard fare: frozen waffles, coffee and a banana. Around 4 pm I started...
  9. In less than a week I'll hit the 3 month mark of being gluten free (sounds like an accomplishment that deserves a chip, like in AA. Hi, my name is tonalynn, and I'm a celiac. "hi tonalynn...." LOL) I'm not someone who likes to cook, in fact I try to avoid it because frankly, I really don't know what I'm doing and I have zero desire to learn. I CAN cook...
  10. Oh no! LOL, this is what you get for having a Tortie! (I have 6 of them so I feel your pain, ha ha!)
  11. Luvs2eat - that's awesome! I love it, and if gluten didn't make you feel so awful, I would say that's a fantastic way to get back at any workers that didn't treat you right! The visual I have is priceless! Thanks for your input everyone. I guess the way I was looking at it was not to have it define who I am. I looked at it as more of a badge of honor...
  12. I've been throwing the idea around about getting a tattoo (my 1st) of a celiac disease support ribbon on my hip. Just to commemorate the date I was diagnosed, to show celiac didn't beat me, and if, heaven forbid, I should have something terrible happen to me, I could announce I have celiac without having to say anything! ;-) Did any of you here do anything...
  13. Thanks Mendylou, but I don't have any hives, bubbles or eruptions where it itches. It's just normal, pinkish skin, nothing visibly wrong with it, both before and after the itching starts. It seems to like the softer parts of skin (the inside of my forearm for example) but it's not really picky. It will show up anywhere. This is why I'm confused and frustrated...
  14. Thanks for the suggestion, Bartfull. I'm 43, but I've had this itchy weirdness for as long as I can remember. Any suggestions on the type of humidifier? I live in a rental, so I can't use a whole-house humidifier (like I would love to!) and don't know what else to look for. Thanks!
  15. Hi all, I was diagnosed with celiac on October 1st of this year, and have been gluten free ever since. I've de-glutened my home, and have only eaten out 3 times since my diagnoses (I don't think I was cc'd but you never know). Anyway, I have a terrible problem with itchy skin. It's not DH, as there is nothing wrong with the area of skin that suddenly...
  16. I don't know if this is related to my recent celiac diagnoses or not. But it seems like other people here have intensely itchy skin and no rash or DH. I've been gluten free for about 10 weeks (I don't really feel any different yet). Every now and then (no rhyme or reason to it) I will have an itch on either my arms, legs or back that is SO itchy! Sometimes...
  17. BrenanaBread, while I am not nearly as sick as you are (my hair falling out would make me certifiably insane), I'm glad you admitted how really angry you are, and that I'm not the only one. I too love the easy, pre-made or grab and go food, and going gluten free has pretty much cut all of that out. Feeling lazy and don't wanna cook? Order a pizza....oh, wait...
  18. I know exactly how you're feeling about your diagnoses. I had never even heard of celiac disease when I got my DX. I was trying to find the cause of my fatigue, lack of energy, weight gain and if my Hashimoto's was under control. I had read that a gluten free diet was good for Hashi's but I told my family "If this doc recommends I go gluten free (it's also...
  19. I didn't see the episode of Ellen where she mentioned the gluten-free dating site, but I can certainly understand this debate from both sides. People really don't understand Celiac and gluten sensitivity. Partly because right now it's "trendy," which frankly, pisses me off. It's "trendy" to keep yourself from eating something that makes you incredibly sick...
  20. Hi foolintherain! I know how you feel - I was diagnosed just 2 months ago. I didn't really have any of the intestinal symptoms people talk about here. But I AM thinking my Hashimoto's and depression are direct results of being an undiagnosed, lifelong celiac. This is an extremely overwhelming change! People who don't have to go gluten free really...
  21. I just thought I'd give an update about how my 1st gluten free Thanksgiving at my family's went. Remember I was so stressed out? Turns out they had a better handle on things than I thought. They did an absolutely FANTASTIC job. Everything was gluten free. They were very careful about making sure they had gluten free stuffing (really good) made a batch of...
  22. Perfect! Not only will I be able to see, but also walk around! My cats will hate it though, they wouldn't be able to sit on my lap. Maybe I'll finally get this group of stoners to follow someone else. I'm putting my hemp bubble up for sale on ebay.... Happy Thanksgiving!
  23. IrishHeart, I don't know either. But I think the technology is amazing. The article said they may have devices for different conditions. As I get more and more used to identifying gluten in my foods, I'm sure I wouldn't need it as much. But right now it would be a godsend!! Besides, it looks like a cool little gadget. Could be a fun way to break the ice...
  24. GFinDC - where did you purchase your bubble? What's it made of? I'm outside of Boulder, and all I can find here are hemp bubbles. They smell funny and you can't see through them - I'm bumping into everything! Plus, there's a bunch of dummies following me around that keep trying to light my bubble on fire. I can't get any type of plastic or man-made material...
