ARCHIVED Sushi
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Spicy Green Stuff --- Wasabi (Japanese Horseradish) 99% of places use powdered wasabi -- the thickening agent is normally mustad flour -- which is essentially dried mustard. We have had debates on powedered wasabi on here before (whether or not it is gluten-free)... I don't think I have ever reacted to it... -

ARCHIVED Chili's Or Tgi Friday's - Which Is Better?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to ShortStuff2309's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Every restaurtant would have to make that claim about cross-contamination (unless they have no gluten containing products in the restaurant) As a lawyer, I would advise each restaurant to make that claim for liability reasons (which I'm sure the reason they say that). Every restaurant is a risk, it depends on the individual people making your food.... -

ARCHIVED Great Restaurant Experience In Chicago
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to hlm34's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
HLM, I had a similar experience here in Vegas. The Mirage Casino has a Brazilian Steakhouse called "Samba" My waitress had a mother that was Celiac and the Chef knew all of my concerns before I sat down. He instructed each waiter (each carrying different food on a spear) to tell me which entree I could have and which I could not. It was a great... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Susan123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ecclesiasticus 31:36. Wine drunken with moderation is the joy of the soul and the heart. Champagne undergoes a second fermementation at times (which gives it more alcohol). Some cheaper kinds add alcohol to it as they do mot use the second fermentation... -

VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to ShortStuff2309's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants

ARCHIVED What's Forbidden In Chicken Broth?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to terriH's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Normally, at higher end restaurants, they make their own chicken stock (boil chickens and reduce). Other places try to use canned stock to help out with food cost (though it also tastes worse)... Chain restaurants likely have canned stock, but always aks the chef. "Do you make you own chicken stock or do you use the canned stuff? -- This question... -

ARCHIVED Very Confused
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Ursa Major's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The french fry was probably a victim of cross-contamination -- Remember, anytime the fryer has had other things in it (onion rings, breaded mushrooms, crabcakes, breaded fish, breaded chicken, breaded shrimp, breaded anything, battered anything, then your fries will have gluten on them (CC) -
ARCHIVED Gluten-fied Dreams?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Jilly Bean's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I used to dream about eating Papa John Pizza -- I would actually be mean to my friends and not share any of it with them - LOL! -- must be some sort of psychological defense backlash from my subconcious -- heehee I do have much more vivid dreams now than I used to (or maybe I am able to remember them better now)??? -
ARCHIVED Balsamic Vinager
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
balsamic vinegars are made from grapes -- for the most part, they are gluten-free -- usually the more expensive, the safer (pure product) I have not found one BV that is not gluten-free (doesn't mean they don't exist)
