ARCHIVED Source Of Dh Other Than Gluten?
VegasCeliacBuckeye posted a topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Does anyone know what else can cause DH besides gluten? I have been on a gluten-free diet for 7-8 years. I take Dapsone daily. As long as I take Dapsone, I am generally fine. If I miss taking it for a few days, I get DH around my joints, eyes, clothing pressure areas. Has anybody gone through this? Thoughts???? -

ARCHIVED Mcdonalds Must Read
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I was under the impression that MCD's quarter pounders were gluten-free (no bun of course), but the regular burgers were not gluten-free. Thoughts? Bronco p.s. I saw Supersize me too. It was good....but they guy ate there EVERY meal for a month. I have MCD's once or twice a month...its all relative -
Father, In my opinion, as a former restaurant worker for 9 years, it is impossible to guarantee any food is gluten free. Having said that, your risk of cross contamination is lower at various places. As long as your local Maggiano's General Manager/Chef can boil the pasta in clean water, use a clean pan for mixing the sauce with the pasta, it should...

I just had Bards Dragon Gold for the first time this past weekend. It is a bit hoppy, I thought it was similar to Fat Tire.......in any event it is beer. The Ohio locations to buy it are listed on their website. www.bardsbeer.com enjoy -

ARCHIVED Dealing With Waiters
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to maryb's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
1. Bring your "Celiac Card" with you to give to the chef. 2. When the hostess seats you, ask her to bring the manager before the waiter gets there. 3. E-mail a restaurants HQ before you go (I try to e-mail one or two a week -- even if I am not planning to go -- for later use) 4. Order a salad with no croutons, oil and vinegar dressing on the... -
ARCHIVED I Want To Complain!
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to mytummyhurts's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You couldn't pay me to eat a rice cake....not a chance....they are awful! The beer thing will be remedied this year. Bards beer will soon be available nationwide (I am going back to Ohio this weekend and it is available there!!! HOORAY). Folks with celiac disease or GI have to accept the fact that their diet is a benefit and an inconvienence. It all... -
ARCHIVED Any Other Tall Celiacs Out There?
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to LqrMan's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm 6 feet and 2 inches. I weigh around 230. Everytime I go to a Celiac "event", people are suprised that I have Celiac. I guess some people think it can only happen to skinny folks (its not that I'm chubby - I'm just a corn-fed Ohio boy). -

Their baked potato soup is great and gluten-free (according to their customer service dept)! -
Hannah, I live in Vegas - you actually have a number of options. Here is some advice 1. No Buffets -- too much cross contamination -- it sucks, but its reality 2. Outback Steakhouse is on the Strip! 3. Any of the nicer restaurants should be able to accomodate you (especially steakhouses) - I have had good experiences at Fix in the Bellagio...

ARCHIVED Catering Hall Brunch
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to mela14's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
My first 4 years with this disease were up and down. I would have good weeks and bad weeks. I would slip up (unintentionally and carelessly) snd suffer the consequences. Over time, it gets easier. I am in year 8 now. I still have to take Dapsone because of DH and every once in a while there are tummy problems, but I have come a long way. I... -

ARCHIVED "fell Off The Wagon"
VegasCeliacBuckeye replied to Niteyx13's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I guess this is one of those topics that some Celiacs are defensive about. Some people think we look down on them for telling them how to live and diet right. I have never understood this argument. I look at food and salivate over "pizza and bread", but there is NO WAY I would ever eat that stuff again. The pleasure from 30 seconds of chewing a piece...
