    ARCHIVED Jealous

It is normal to have these feelings. What is happening is that you are grieving the loss of something that was very important to you....the freedom and convenience of eating whatever the heck you wanted. And just like the grieving process for other things in life, the first year is hard because you have those reminders of what the 'old days' used to be...
  2. I had it done too and it was honestly a breeze. I even had the spray (they make you say ah, and they quickly spray a light mist in your mouth). I don't remember going to sleep, all I know is that it felt like the very next minute and I was awake and it was all over. I didn't have a sore throat...just a bit of a feeling like a frog in my throat, but it...
  3. I get the same pain when I get glutened. My pain feels like it is in the ball joints of the hips and also in the area on my very lower back (almost at the tailbone) where the hips join to the spine. It will ache terribly, and I will feel very stiff and have great difficulty walking and climbing stairs. A heating pad helps a lot, and for me I take extra...
  4. Melt-in-your-mouth meringues. These are super-easy to make, don't contain flour as an ingredient, and they melt in your mouth. They have to bake in a slow oven. For some Xmas fun, separate the mixture into three bowls. Add a couple drops red food coloring to one bowl, green food colouring the the next, and leave the final one white. This is just a...
  5. Hi, Anyone know if smoke flavouring in bacon contains gluten? thanks
  6. thanks all for your input! I actually didn't have any angles on this question except one of flavour. I was just trying to figure out what cuts of meat they add into the mix and what makes one kind taste so different from the other. I don't have any grocery stores around me with a butcher. They just get their meat delivered from somewhere else and then...
  7. Felidae...what's in ground beef? Please just tell me. I'm not a vegetarian, and I eat meat all the time. A friend of mine whose husband is a butcher told me he would never eat ground beef...but wouldn't tell me why. So I am dying of curiosity. What did they say in that documentary??? P.S. I've been trying to do searches about this on google...but...
  8. If anyone tests their glucose several times a day...I'm just wondering what your experiences have been with different monitors and test strips. Anyone find that one is more accurate than the others? THanks
  9. This is sort of unrelated to celiac...because I know there isn't anything in ground beef, except ground beef. But I have been trying to find out what parts of the beef go into the ground beef, and I can't get a straight answer. I want to know, do they put things like the liver, kidneys, tongue, and other parts of the beef in there? thanks if you've got...
  10. Complaining about whining....um, isn't that whining too? Yup, I think it is actually whining about whining. Just a thought

    ARCHIVED Please Help

Any chance it is your blood sugar levels? I'm asking because this very same thing was happening to me. I got myself a blood sugar monitor and tested my sugar levels before eating, and then after eating at 30 minutes, 1 hour, 1.5 hours and 2 hours. I also tested first thing in the morning, and especially whenever I felt good, bad, dizzy, angry, etc. ...
  12. Thanks for the advice. I've never used fresh whole spices before (was too afraid for some reason). But I'll give them a try and see what happens. Just the thought of grating a whole nutmeg berry makes me feel good. As for McCormicks spices....I'm hoping they really are gluten-free..because where I live (Toronto, Canada) their company supplies pretty...
  13. Hi, I'm curled up in a ball, clutching my stomach, and thinking of just moving the sofa into the bathroom so I don't have so far to run. I've been glutened...for sure. And the only thing I can think of (although I admit I could be wrong) is that I have been adding a sprinkle of ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg to my tea for the last few days for some...
  14. Hi George, yup, what you're going through sounds just like my journey (and lots of others). The bad news is that you can't change other people. The good news is that there is a great message board to come to where you can spill your guts, cheer when you have a great day, complain, bellyache, report new gluten-free finds, and anything inbetween! I...
  15. My bladder problems turned out to be sugar related. I used to get between 4 and 6 UTIs every year for about 10 years. I also had the scopes, x-rays, cat scans, etc. But they couldn't figure it out. Because of an insulin problem, I had to go on a no sugar and low glycemic index diet which I follow to this day (along with a gluten-free diet). The bladder...
  16. The MOST IMPORTANT thing to do before anything, is to find 3 or 4 good foods that you can eat. Don't worry about nutrition/fat content/etc. right now. Find these foods, and eat them everyday until you are full, so that you do not stress out your body by going hungry. If you can eat any of the following, then buy them, prepare them without any added...
  17. Not sure if this has been done here already, but I was just wondering if there's any corelation between blood type and celiac disease. All the people in my family who have celiac are AB+ (including me). Just curious. Maybe we can send our results to Dr. D'Adamo (the guy who wrote Eat Right for your Blood Type) and see what he thinks! thanks Gabby
  18. Oops, forgot to post their website if anyone's interested: www.homegrownfoods.com
  19. Hi, I just had my first taste of Hardbite Potato chips (plain, salted) and they are good. The website says they are gluten free and fried in sunflower oil (good for me because I can't handle peanut oil). Anyways, just wanted to mention the brand. thanks
  20. I was just on the website for the series of Chicken Soup books and noticed that they take proposals for new book ideas. Does anyone think that a book like this would have enough interest? Is there a place for a 'warm & fuzzy' type book on this disease? I thought it would be great if in the title it said Chicken Soup (Gluten Free) for the Celiac's...
  21. I pull out my collection of Erma Bombeck books and re-read them again and again, laughing and crying the whole way.
  22. Oh my stars! (to quote Samantha Stevens). Have they figured out what's going on? Can they explain why the freezing won't take? Does the celiac have anything to do with it? I'll keep up my search for answers and post anything I come up with. Actually, I'm having dinner with my dentist and his wife (who is also a dentist!) tonight. He's already told...
  23. Here's an update on my root canal sage... I went to the dentist yesterday, 3 full months after having the root canal done, and the tooth is still causing lots of pain. He had to take out the temp filling and needed to use some freezing...but again, the freezing did not work and I could feel everything. My dentist is a really nice guy...and seeing that...
  24. Thanks for all your input. I never thought about a compounding pharmacy! But I've checked into it, and it looks like they can get me a safe and effective alternative. Whew. As for the doctor who said the wheat starch was ok....he is located in Zurich, Switzerland (where I lived for a little while until I came back to Canada a while back). Apparently...
  25. I'll reserve my opinion on doctors and the medical community (although I'll tell you it took nearly 15 years to get diagnosed). I think the biggest problem of all is awareness. I had never heard of celiac disease until I got my diagnosis. Never heard of it, never read about it, never encountered it. And I am an information junkie. Even today, pretty...
