Hmmm. What a strange question. Strange, because you can't actually cheat celiac disease. Unlike a weight loss diet where you can 'cheat' by eating too many calories on one day, and making it up the next day and still being able to lose weight...you can't cheat celiac. Everytime you eat something with gluten, you will pay the price. There's no getting...

ARCHIVED Lactose And Soy Intolerant
gabby replied to momandgirls's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I recently became intolerant of soy products and dairy. However, I have found that I can stomach certain hard cheeses (like parmesan and provelone) in small amounts. And I can also tolerate butter nicely. I use an organic brand here in Canada that contains only cream and water (no colorings, flavorings, binders, etc.) Hope this helps. -
ARCHIVED Weird Answer From Tetley Canada
gabby posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I sent an e-mail to Tetley Canada to ask them about their Pure Camomile tea which has a nutrition label that says each cup contains 15mg of sodium. I wanted to know the source of the sodium. (note: no other brands of herbal teas contain sodium at all). I only noticed the sodium thing because I kept getting a headache after drinking this tea, and finally... -
ARCHIVED Weird Gluten Statement On Tetley Website
gabby posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I recently bought some Tetley chamomile tea and noticed the nutrition label said it contained 15mg of sodium per serving. I thought this was weird...how can chamomille have sodium? So I went to their website (Canadian website). I coudn't find any reference to the sodium, but I came across this weird gluten statement. " We don't have the new labelling... -
ARCHIVED Share Your Stories, And Journey With Recovery
gabby replied to lemonade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Didn't mean to scare anyone with my last posting about never recovering from Celiac. I obviously didn't put my thoughts together in a very coherent way. What I meant to say was that the underlying celiac disease never goes away. It is always there. Even if you are feeling better, you can never go back to consuming gluten. So you cannot recover... -
ARCHIVED Share Your Stories, And Journey With Recovery
gabby replied to lemonade's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Are you a reporter? Do you have celiac disease or know someone who does? Your question sounds very strange and makes me wonder about your intentions. Anyone who knows anything about celiac disease knows that there are no recovery stories. One does not recover from Celiac. Much like one does not recover from multiple sclerosis, or muscular dystrophy,... -
Your casual attitude is pretty common for people who are first diagnosed with Celiac. Heck, I kind of took the whole thing lying down when I was first diagnosed. But, because I was not given any information on the disease by my doctor (he just said I had to avoid gluten, end of story), I set about doing my own research. So while I happily picked croutons...

ARCHIVED Edible Food Coatings
gabby posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know anything about edible food coatings made from gluten? I downloaded a document from the Canadian Food Agency on allergy labelling from 1999, and came across this statement: "Of concern to individuals with celiac disease were gluten-based coatings for fruits and vegetables being developed in Europe. because of the serious consequences... -
What do you put in your coffee? If you put milk/cream/sugar, those things could be aggravating. I thought coffee was bothering me too, but it turns out that it was the cream I was putting in my coffee. so I cut out the dairy and drink it black. but I only drink homemade espresso and only in the morning after breakfast. It is my daily pick-me-up!

ARCHIVED Are You Drinking Your Shampoo?
gabby posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
After feeling glutened after having my showers....I decided to finally start using gluten-free shampoo about a year ago, with immediate great results. But I always wondered if the shampoo was really the culprit. I mean, I don't usually drink my shampoo and don't having bubbles or suds in my mouth. But this week, I tried this hair softenening trick, that... -
Have a pity party. Seriously. When you are feeling left out and angry and depressed about this (which will happen from time to time) throw yourself a pity party. The key is to give it a time limit. I give myself 2 solid hours. I make sure I can have those two hours to myself and I'm allowed to be as dismal and miserable as I want. Play those old sad...

I had the ribs from Baton Rouge in Toronto. I always have them without the sauce, plain, with just a salad on the side (no dressing.) The last two times Ihad them, I really didn't feel good and felt like I had been glutened. the company says they are gluten-free, but I'm wondering if anybody else has had any experiences (good or bad) with their ribs...

ARCHIVED Eye Tic?
gabby replied to eleep's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Add me to the left-eye-twitch club. Mine started in August 05 around the same time I had a root canal done on my upper left last molar...so I thought it was related. The twitch happens all the time (and I am as gluten free as possible). I haven't been able to pinpoint what makes it worse. Could you guys all describe your twitch? Mine is in the lower... -
ARCHIVED Do I Have Celiac's?
gabby replied to a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had pain in my upper right side, and all the way down my right side. It was a burning, aching pain that gradually got worse and worse. Doctors also suspected gall bladder, appendix, etc. But when they did the endoscopy, it came back looking like celiac. And today, if I have a speck of gluten, the area on my right is where it will ache for a few... -
ARCHIVED Somebody Whack Me On The Head Please!
gabby replied to CMCM's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You might want to contact the manufacturers of the Craisins, candied walnuts and the balsamic vinegar and check to see if they use any barley-based sweeteners and/or wheat starch in these products. I know that lots of roasted nuts contain wheat starch too. It is worth checking out. What I learned over the first year of being gluten-free is that sometimes... -
ARCHIVED "processed In A Plant With Wheat"
gabby replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is actually pretty serious. Just take out the word 'wheat' in the sentence, and insert the word 'rat poison'. Now see how the sentence reads: may contain rat poison. Processed in a facility that processes rat poison. Dear customer, we do not add rat poison to any of our cocoa drinks. We take great pains to make sure that our cocoa is rat poison... -
Hi, I've been gluten-free for a couple years now, and have recently been noticing sensitivities to other foods. I had to eliminate soy and most dairy because they caused disgestive problems. But today was something new for me. I tried a new recipe for cheese meringues (just egg whites, grated cheese, salt and pepper). The cheese I used is one that I...

High blood sugar can cause carb/sugar cravings. You could be having some sort of blood sugar problem (i.e. maybe not enough insulin being released, etc.) I would highly recommend that you go to your doctor and ask to have a glucose tolerance test done. It is a simple test. After fasting overnight, you come in and drink a big glass of sugary water. Then...

ARCHIVED What Are Your Thoughts On.....
gabby replied to danikali's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think any food produced on a line that produces gluten-containing food should NOT be allowed to be labelled as gluten-free. Period. The food should carry a warning that says it was produced in a facility that processes gluten. If this means that most products on the planet need to carry this warning, then so be it. This will give the consumers all the... -
Hi, Um, I noticed from another posting that you are 18 weeks pregnant. The changing hormones could really be the cause of your feelings...and not to minimize them, but it might not be that abnormal. Probably best to check with your doctor about your depression and see if anything is off kilter. Hope this helps, and that sunnier days are ahead. Also...

Sometimes gluten-free does not mean there's no gluten in it. I had to learn this the hard way. Eg. potatoes do not contain gluten, and a potato chip manufacturer can say that his potato chips are naturally gluten-free. But go back to the company and ask them if the chips are produced in a gluten-free facility....many times they are NOT! the only way...

I would find another doctor. If you can't and you must see this guy, ask him what medical school he graduated from, and in what percentile he graduated. If he is anything below the 75th percentile, get another doctor. And if he won't tell you his percentile, then get another doctor. Trust me, there's a big difference between a doctor who graduated with...

I'm confused about your post. Did you knowingly gluten yourself? thanks Gabby

ARCHIVED Hardbite Potato Chips gluten-free?
gabby replied to gabby's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here's the answer I got from Hardbite: This was my question: Hi, could you tell me if your hardbite potato chips, natural flavour, are processed on machinery that is a dedicated gluten-free facility? In otherwords, are the chips processed in a factory that processes gluten-containing products? Here's the answer I got: hi, this facility only makes... -
This happens to me all the time on airlines (in coach, business and first class). I don't even bother anymore with trying to order a special meal. I just don't eat ANYTHING they serve on board. I tell myself I'm not paying for the meal, but for the ride. And if it is first class, I'm paying for the extra wide seats, the lovely reclining seats, the personal...
