Not sure how long it takes to get on the show.....I'm guessing that the only way to find out is to actually write in, and see what happens, then take it from there. Hope that helps a bit more.... And again, hope you get the answers you seek....whichever way you end up getting them!

Why not run both options in parallel...see your doc, and try and get on Dr. Phil. Even if your doc ends up giving you a diagnosis...it is still a rare disorder, and quite a medical mystery. Best of luck in whatever you do...and keep us all up to date on how things go...

Hi, Your story is heartbreaking. Your attitude is incredibly upbeat and positive. I wish I had info that could help you uncover what the heck is going on...so you can get a proper diagnosis, and more importantly so you can get the proper treatment and then get on with doing all the incredible things that are waiting for you in your future (including...

ARCHIVED I Am Having A Hard Time With This!
gabby replied to johncgaiser's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Would you be willing to try an experiment for a month? For 30 days, eat only gluten free foods in the house (including the gluten free pancakes, pizza, etc.) Do not eat any gluteny foods in the house at all. HOWEVER......during those 30 days, when you are in the mood for gluteny foods....you are entitled to go out for those foods! Yes. Want pancakes... -
ARCHIVED I Feel Like Im Running Out Of Options!
gabby replied to wilem008's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm a big believer in keeping a food journal for one solid week. Write down everything you eat, including brands, amount eaten, where eaten (at home, name of a restaurant, type of restaurant, at a friend's house, etc.) Then post the entire week's food journal here with the subject line: help me find the hidden gluten/problem! I know it is a drag... -
I had similar problems and eventually tracked it down to dairy. Along with your symptoms, I also get slightly purplish circles under my eyes plus an over-all general feeling of not feeling so great. If I stay away from dairy, the symptoms all go away. Hope that helps!

Hi, Sorry that you are going through this. I personally was helped with a similar situation via a book that was recommended to me a few years ago. You should be able to find it in the library...or order it online somewhere. It isn't about celiac disease, instead it is about dealing with regrets from the past. I urge you to get your hands on this book...

ARCHIVED High Calories Snack Suggestions
gabby replied to clnewberry1's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm recommending homemade everything in my list below because I love to cook and make everything like this...but if you can find any of this ready made, go for it! When I call something 'safe' I mean gluten free. (like 'safe' mayo, etc) -Homemade french fries (keep them in the fridge for snacks) -homemade potato chips -homemade popcorn fried in olive... -
How about corn polenta? You can buy the corn meal, and just boil the appropriate amount of water and stir in the corn meal. stir. And pour into a bowl. put in the fridge...and then slice when cold! It is really good. Also, can you have rice? Have you tried making anything with buckwheat...it is great. Just buy the raw, unroasted buckwheat groats,...

ARCHIVED Reemergence Of Symptoms After 2 Years
gabby replied to Bri's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, When this type of thing happens to me, I go back over the time period (in your case one month) and make a list of everything that is new or different. Not just food, but everything. For example: new car, new coworker, new routine of any kind, new furniture, new brands being sold at grocery store (like bulk nuts, etc). New cleaning stuff. New dog... -
People often ask me "what happens if you have a bit of gluten?" I am never quite able to explain clearly what happens. So today, while I am in the midst of a pretty bad glutening (accidental), I thought I'd write down a good description of what it is like to be glutened. Please feel free to reprint this description on little pamphlets which you can carry...

ARCHIVED Inability To Properly Absorb Water?
gabby replied to Woolygimp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here's my personal remedy for dehydration and difficulty absorbing water: two or three big juicy slices of freshly sliced sweet watermelon. Filled with potassium and other good vitamins and minerals. Plus it is loaded with water. And fiber. And it tastes great. You'll notice how your body seems to just absorb the goodness from the moment you swallow... -

ARCHIVED Biopsies Negative For Celiac Disease
gabby replied to TRB's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Sounds like you've got a great doctor! -
Possible culprits that get me all the time at non-gluten-free houses: -handles of all sorts: fridge door, microwave door, tea kettle handle, cupboard handle, cutlery drawer handle, bathroom door knob, etc -tea towels -placemats: they can hold lots of crumbs (even if they've been shaken out), and you could easily rest a wet spoon on the place...

ARCHIVED Question About 20 Ppm Or 200 Ppm Or Whatever Ppm
gabby replied to home-based-mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was chatting to a friend, who happens to be a lawyer, about this ingredient list business. To my surprise, this is what he explained to me: An ingredient list on a product is not a simple listing of ingredients. An ingredient list is actually a legal document , and every single word, phrase, term is stringently crafted by teams of lawyers. This... -
ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed Celiac Daughter
gabby replied to rce's mom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, A dedicated gluten-free toaster oven is a great idea...not just for toast, but to bake gluten-free pizzas, gluten-free garlic bread, to heat up and toast gluten-free muffins and cakes, to bake gluten-free cookies, etc. Also great for roasting entire chickens, pieces of chicken, fish, gluten-free pies and quiche, french fries, mini-meat loafs, baked... -
I was at a restaurant in Austin, and they had corn tortillas on the menu. I asked the waiter if they contained wheat flour. He went back to the kitchen and returned to tell me it was safe to eat them because there was no wheat flour. Then he continued to tell me there was no flour in them at all. So I asked him what they were made from, and he said they...

Keeping a food journal is a great tool that can help you hunt down those things that are bothering you. Yes, they are a bit of a pain in the neck to do, but it is a very worthwhile pain in the neck. So, if you can do a food journal for 2 weeks, you should be able to spot the problem areas. Here's how to set up a journal (either by computer, or just in...

There's not a lot you can do to shorten the duration of the symptoms, or make it much better. I liken it to having the flu. Once you've got it, it has to run its natural course...which is usually several days. You can make your husband a bit more comfortable...make his favorite soup, drink liquids, take advil, etc. But as for the tiredness, intestinal...

ARCHIVED I Really Need Some Advice
gabby replied to feelingbetter's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Here's something to check regarding almonds.... Almonds: they could be the culprit. A good way to check: go to a natural food store and buy a couple pounds of raw whole almonds(no shells)in a sealed bag. Not in bulk. Go home, turn on the oven to 370F, spread the almonds in a safe pan (meaning something that has NEVER had gluten on it). Bake... -
Forgot to add: if you don't like the chocolatey smell of cocoa butter, you can substitute avocado butter or coconut butter.

Lemon juice conditioner: -use a plastic juice jug or large empty water bottle -just before having a shower, cut a large fresh lemon in half. Put one half in the fridge. Squeeze the juice out of the other half, and strain out the pulp. Add the juice to the jug or water bottle and fill with very warm water. Then shake it all up. -have your shower and...

ARCHIVED Controlling Cc In My Kitchen
gabby replied to dbmamaz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here's a small thing that will help a little: get rid of the wooden cutting board and get one of those nice glass ones. They are easy to clean off without worrying if there's bread stuck in there somewhere. Also, if you have room, keep a bowl of soapy water in the sink at all times and throw used utensils in there where they can't cross contaminate anything... -
Some more foods that are nutritious and delicious: -spaghetti squash (just cut in half, take out seeds, wrap in tin foil, roast in 360F oven for 45 minutes) When cooked, just take a fork and drag it through the squash and everything comes out looking like spaghetti! Add some olive oil and salt and you've got a terrific side dish that can be eaten hot...
