I went looking for un-iodized sea salt...and couldn't find any. So I threw out the old box of salt, and bought a new one. It looks okay to me. I had been cooking broccoli and cauliflower the other day when I was using the 'pink' salt.....and I had the salt in a bowl so I could just add pinches of salt as I was cooking (sea salt is sticky). I'll keep digging...and post a follow up. I've heard that it could be chlorine reacting with the iodine; I have noticed a distinct chlorine smell to the tap water lately (maybe they are adding more chlorine to the water due to the spring run-off of melting snow and ice). But I'll check it out. thanks for your help! -

Could be... I'll keep digging on this. I've used several boxes of this salt and never had this happen before..until I sifted out those square crystals. I'm guessing I sifted out something that keeps the iodine from reacting with other things. I'm sure it is normal...just thought I'd check and see what's up! -

Clean the inside of the oven thoroughly. If it is self-cleaning...then put it through a self-cleaning cycle on the highest temperature (some ovens have a quick mode and a long mode...go for the long one). If the oven isn't self-cleaning, then get some oven cleaner and clean the oven at least twice...making sure to get up and around the oven light cover...

Be sure to throw out your old lipsticks, chapsticks, lipglosses and anything else that you put on your lips before going gluten free. If you are anything like me, then you probably used to routinely eat a sandwich or donut or pizza, then just pull out your lipstick/gloss/chapstick and reapply without even thinking about it....and thus getting little itty... -

Sorry to hear that you are having difficulty adjusting. Everyone goes through this....because having celiac disease and going gluten-free is a complex thing, and it takes lots of time and effort and energy to figure it out and make it work. Just a quick word on Thimerosal from a point of view I've never heard anyone mention before. It is possible to be allergic to thimerosal. I know, because I am. I'm just glad to see celiac disease getting some prominent space in a widely read publication. And I'm happy to see that researchers are taking an interest in figuring out how celiac disease works. It gives me a wee bit of hope that someone out there will bump into some new findings and come up with a treatment or a cure. Just my bit of hoping.

Hi, I bought my own countertop grain milling machine and now I make my own polenta, rice flour, bean flours, etc. For polenta I just put popcorn kernels through the machine and grind it at a course setting (I actually like to use Orville Redenbacher popcorn...but any popcorn will do). I don't live in the US...so I am not sure where you can buy these things... -

Can you tolerate corn? If you can, then maybe try making homemade popcorn, drizzled with olive oil and some salt. And eat a few handfuls a few times a day to bulk out your diet. It'll give your digestive system something to chew on and to digest. Hope that helps!
