  1. Alcohol affects me faster now too. I'm a cheap date these days!! Maybe just lay off for a little while and heal some more? That's what I'm trying to do.
  2. I've been feeling so great! I've safely eaten at PF Changs several times so didn't hesitate when the family wanted to go. I ordered my usual egg drop soup, entree and gluten free fried rice with all the veggies. They brought out the red bowl of sauce and the signature plates only the rice came with chicken instead of veggies. I figured oh well, I need...
  3. I agree that this post couldn't have come at a better time after a bad, glutened weekend out of town. Things are up and down. Focus on the up. Easier said than done, but doable. I actually stood on the gluten free aisle at Whole Foods today and teared up at the sheer variety. I can't explain the tears other than that it screamed to me that yes, there...
  4. Cheerio... Can't have those. HAHA couldn't resist! I'm sorry you're feeling poorly. I completely understand the whole "balanced diet" issue and am struggling with it also. Last night for dinner I had wine, a Larabar and some ice cream. Not exactly a steller day. You'll get it figured out!!!
  5. Sitting at work and literally laughed out loud!!!
  6. Thanks to this forum, I've started saying, "This is a medical thing, not just a diet thing. I get very sick. It's poison to me." It seems to work. The word "poison" at least gets their attention. I admit that I feel like a special case at parties and the like and just laugh it off and make a lot of "not a huge deal..I PROMISE!!" comments. I think some...
  7. Just loving all this information on this thread!
  8. I'm just over two weeks in and my life has changed. I'm definitely not all the way healed but my energy level coming up keeps me eating right and helps with a positive attitude. My whole family even raved over dinner last night - and they actually sounded sincere! I'm taking sublingual B12, calcium, probiotics and extra daily vitamins. I'm also eating...
  9. We got one also!!! I kept the wine and sent the rest to my hubby's office!! I think it's a great idea to make a gluten free basket!!
  10. Thank you so much for all the ideas!! It's silly how blank I am because I love to cook so much. I think I sort of had a shut-down pity party for a few days. I know it sounds crazy but when I realized tortilla chips at a lot of restaurants weren't safe, it was like a kick in the gut (haha no pun intended). I've always spouted NO PROCESSED FOOD and LET...
  11. YES!!! The slow slide back into life causes me to realize just exactly how sick I've been. My dry skin and itchy eyes and knee pain - not to mention the other, more embarrassing stuff! I could go on and on. I've cooked all day and feel ready for the week!!! Thank you all!!!
  12. You all are making me see some humor in an otherwise crummy "can't find anything to eat" day!! SO THANKFUL!!!
  13. I feel so lazy sometimes with all the label reading that I just don't eat. I've hardly eaten at all this week and only had three "real" meals. Other than that I just eat crackers and grab a slice of cheese or a handful of almonds. I keep losing weight and my goal is EAT and maybe prepare meals on Sunday that I can just grab during the week. Did any of...
  14. Tonight I went out to eat. I talked to the waitress and made it clear that gluten free was medical and not a choice. She came back and told me the chef said I could have a certain salad and that she'd grill me a chicken breast separately with no seasonings. I knew she was taking me seriously with the "no seasonings" part!! She even brought me out separate...
  15. Going on two weeks after diagnosis. Bad symptoms for a year and a half but looking back, much longer. Cleaned kitchen, bought new stuff, got my act TOGETHER!!! Or so I thought... I've messed up twice. Once was out to eat - which I already see as something that won't be like it used to be. I think it was the twice baked potato - who knew they could mix...
  16. Newly diagnosed and feeling better even after a week and a half!! Not all the way better but better better better!! I have a couple of questions about my *almost* gluten free kitchen. First, I've decided to make my kitchen/pantry as gluten free as possible. I've tossed out, scrubbed, and purchased new colander, spoons, skillet, etc. BUT...my teenage daughter...
  17. Thank you both for your replies. I just got through with more blood work and am officially going gluten free! Wish me luck!! Has anyone ever heard of blunted villi "classic celiac" in the ileum from a colonoscopy biopsy and only inflammation in the duodenum with the endoscopy? The more I read, the more I realize how atypical so many people's are. I just...
  18. I have been struggling with ongoing gastro troubles off and on for a long time. I thought they were "just a part of life" until last summer a year ago when I got a parasite on vacation. I took several rounds of antibiotics but never fully recovered. The other three who got sick took meds and were well quickly. Doc did a celiac panel which was negative and...
